Default Comic Book Wrap Up

Even thoug no one commented on this over on that "other" board, I thought I'd re-post it anyway.

So, I went to the comic book store yesterday only to find several new comics hit the stands that I missed. So, I thought I'd go over a few here.

DC Countdown to Infinite Crisis - I liked it alot, although, I am bummed, Blue Beatle was one of my favorite characters (along with Booster Gold.. MAN, I loved the JLI... <snif>). I'd like to try and get all the miniseries, but I'm just not sure I can afford it. Ah, well, I get the feeling that, as other's have said, it won't be vital to get all of them to understand the story. I also gotta add that I really liked John Byrne's version of O.M.A.C., but I'm willing to see what they do with this.

Power Pack #1 of 4 - I loved this comic when it first came out. Not yet sure about this one. I realize its an all ages book, but it's very cartoony (even had a "and knowing is half the battle" kind of ending), and also seems to ignore marvel continuity. I mean, Julie Powers seems to have no problems being Lightspeed in this but over in...

Runaway's #2 - She's there part of the "ex-teen heroes" support group. Strange. Anyway, this was another good issue, although it's hard to tell if the writters take this series seriously or not. The "future flashback" seemed to have a lot of humor in the names of the future heroes.

GLA Misassembled #1 - Monkey Joe says: This is funny stuff, Kids. Go buy it now.

Ultimate Secret #1 - At first I thought this was related to Ultimate Nightmare, which was a great mini-series. Now, it appears to not be. Introduces Captain Marvel to the Ultimate universe. Overall, not sure what this story is about, which I think is bad for a first issue.

I think that about covers it.

Countdown was ok for a dollar, but some of the dialog was out-of-character and I really haven't liked Winick's decisions lately.

Powerpack is out of continuity, so it has no relations to the original or current Powerpack.

Runaways on the other hand is awesome, and I believe Vaughan has a deep respect for Runaways. But that doesn't mean you can't joke around once or twice. "Power Vacuum" anyone?

GLA looks great and I'll definently pick it up, once it's collected. Since it's Marvel, it most likely will be.

Ultimate Secret is written by Warren Ellis. Therefore I'll probably buy it. You have to remember though, Ellis usually writes decompressed, so it will probably read better as a whole.

If you can't count on Winick, count on Geoff. That's always been my mantra.

So, who got Green Lantern Rebirth #5?

Yes, and it was 50 shades of awesomeness. The attention to details in the whole mini has been amazing. Even the way the power ring looks different when used by different GLs...the way Geoff made the whole Paralax crap make sense...the Batman scenes.

Wonderful.

Ultimate Secret is supposed to be linked to Nightmare, which will lead to Ultimate Arrival...the linking thread I think is supposed to be the upcoming threat of the Big G.

Countdown did it's job and was well worth the price.

GLA: I like. But then again, it's written by Dan Slott, Comic God. So yeah.
