Argh! I KNEW my theater got ripped off with our ending.
Yeah, I was hoping to get something different, but I saw the same ending Melt saw.
Spoiler!
I sorta knew Deadpool wasn't dead, given the comic issue where he regenerates his whole body from one thumb! Maybe a hunch on my part, but there were a bunch of ambiguous deaths in the movie.
The movie was good, but I am more of a "show more pain and suffering and see how the character deals with it" sorta guy. I personally woulda liked to have seen more of the Weapon X event and fallout (ferally in the woods). I also think he should have lost his memory at that point; I think the movie and some of the events would have been more stronger; the audience would be "in-the-know" from the setups while we saw Logan deal with his "new world" and feelings toward specific people. In this respect, the movie flashed too fast.
A bit too much gratuitous showing of lots of unrelated mutants. The big ending finale on the island was nice, but could have been served more if the memory loss was already in-force. I guess I am griping at some of the scripting decisions (story) more than the actual movie. It is a good primer. There was talk (an interview) of "toughening up" Wolverine, I feel they just gave him more action scenes and did not do too much with the "Shakeperaean Tragedy" that they could have done. Normally, a good movie gets you to identify with the main character and when he confronts his demons/enemy, you are emotionally drawn into it; you identify with him and should be feeling yourself in WITH the fight. You wince when he is losing, you feel vindicated when he has "nailed the bastard." I did not get this with this movie. Maybe the setups were wrong. Everyone was pretty "nice".
This may be because I know the story and am not coming at it with "fresh eyes", but I think so more emotional setups were warranted. This is not to say this was a bad movie, I did enjoy it, but they could (and should) have turned the knob closer to "11" than were it was. Maybe the fast pacing ruined this? Maybe they should have left scenes out. I enjoyed Gambit, but even this could have been left out of the main story; Gambit didn't play too big a role in the movie (info could be gotten from elsewhere).
Still, I could see myself seeing this again, especially for the "variant comic-cover/endings". From what I am seeing, I think there are probably only 3 endings. There may be 5...but I am doubting it.
One thing I have to say, for public record. It was an enjoyable film, but I was very offput by all the obvious CG effects. Even the Metal claws; either the props were too good or the CG was unnerving (I did not get a sense Jackman really reacting/handling the claws). Even the "guy in the brown trenchcoat" at the end looked strange; makes me think "CG".
Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson was absolutely fantastic. I laughed at every single line he delivered... "Okay, people are dead." Heh, just perfect!
The only thing that bugged me about this movie was the whole Weapon 11 plot. Up until the final act, the movie was great for me. Once they got to the Island, the movie completely bombed. Especially the way Wolverine's amnesia was handled. That was just plain damn terrible. I feel like the script should have been sent back to the writers one more time before they followed through with the ending.
Again, it was a good movie, but like McKay says...there was something wrong with the story (it had nothing to do with continuity gaffes), especially with the last act.
The action was nice but...no emotion really. Everything (in the plot) moved so smoothly from one situation to the next. Everyone knew (or would know in the future) everyone else. The action was nice, but there were not many emotional ties with the characters. No "HELL YEAH! GET YER REVENGE!" moments on a personal level for me personally. Maybe the pace of storytelling was too fast. Things wrapped up too nicely/abruptly at the end. Really, the memory loss is such a non-issue at the end. It was not important. It was all very casually handled.

I do want to say that the after credits was better than I thought. I mean the "Shhh" fit with his humor and made sense that he is crazier after all that like continuity. I hope for the Deadpool movie they fix the dumb "Weapon 11 has lots of powers" thing, especially as Scott's lead the only other we saw.
I hope Marvel actually does that movie, with Reynolds, and they let Them use h in this movie by contract if they gave the setup for his movie.
Saw it yesterday and pretty much agree with most posters here. It was an entertaining movie, but the story was a bit lacking and just went over the edge at the end.
Spoiler!
And what was up with the Wolverine/Gambit fight? That was just silly. I was just sitting there going "Why the hell are these guys fighting?" The explenation was even poorer than the contrived misunderstandings used in most crossover comics to excuse two good guys fighting eachother before teaming up against the real villains.
And what's up with "Zero"? Isn't he supposed to be some super powerfull android? Or am I in the wrong continuity now?
Edit: Bought the Wolverine game the other day. Haven't started playing it yet, but I won't be at all surprised if the games story is much better than the movie. And there's blood. Buckets of it
