Also, good call on the who doesn't get naked and who looks great naked, Wids. That may sway my vote.

Forgot the watching thing but I will say River's psychic abilities still give an edge, to counteract the learning or something, and to be honest, on the getting nekkid I'd rather River to have in the end, even if she did not

Ultraviolet has no place in this discussion. back at you.

Okay, so I messed up Korbin's name... maybe he changed it (slightly) after saving the universe in order to hide and get some time alone with Leeloo for awhile. As for Leeloo's last name, I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt in eventually being able to learn what a multipass is and not keep calling herself that.

Let's also keep in mind that the Reavers were armed with blades and other melee weapons, in addition to their most dangerous weapon: swarming with reckless abandon.

Sure, they were standing still... because they had no idea how to attack Leeloo. River danced and flowed through battle because it was necessary and showed remarkable awareness of her foes at all times. Leeloo, despite her foes not swarming with reckless abandon, also knew where her opponents were at all times, even attacking one behind her without once having looked to see where it was.

So once Leeloo destroys or takes away River's axe and her sword, how greatly will River's fighting prowess be diminished?

No weapons. Of course, as you say, even if weapons are picked up during the course of the fight, how long either of them holds on to those weapons is a factor.

I love Fifth Element, but I gotta say from damage we've seen them do.. not factoring in the blasting away of Evil.. I'd give it to River.

I dunno, seems like you're looking at the two movies in how they portrayed the fight scenes. Sure, River has the advantage of a newer film with higher production values, probably a better fight coordinator, and more up-to-date special effects. But that's like wondering who would win in a fight between Batman and Captain America based on what artists were drawing each character... ignoring facts behind the characters and focusing on the "what looks cool" factor.

I'm not focusing on anything other than the facts, and thats what we can see and know from the movies and television series. We've seen River do alot more fighting than Leeloo, granted Leeloo shows a somewhat heighted strength I still give it to River. She moves much more fluently because she is already bestowed with that talent, while Leeloo is still learning. You can argue coordinaters and all but then you too are looking past facts, because all we have to go by is whats presented to us.. that is the story and that is how it played out, theres no other artist to have another take on it.
Now, if we do start to assume things, like how this fight would be started I have theories.. and they still lead to River winning. Because let's face it, River is very docile.. so in order for her to start kicking any ass Leeloo would have to pose serious threat to her loved ones, or she'd have to be triggered. If River is activated through that trigger.. Leeloo would get her ass handed to her, and the quick learning lady wouldn't really have alot of time to learn before she'd be quite possibly dead.. along side those around her.
Our opinions obviously differ, but don't say I didn't consider the facts.. I'm lookin' at what we got.

I think the bar fight is much more significant than the Reavers, and she disarms and uses to her advantage a man with a knife and a man with a gun. Most of the fight, even with the suspecting opponents is done unarmed.

Its a bit early in the voting for me to show favoritism, but... I agree with pretty much every point Wids made. River has her strong points, but she just doesn't stack up well to Leeloo when all the facts are examined. River's fight scenes are more thrilling to watch, but that's just better directing, fight coordinatng, and special effects.

River moves fluidly because the actress is a dancer. River moves fluidly because that's how the fight coordinator trained her, using the talent she already possessed to bring that motion to the screen. River moves fluidly because that's how the director filmed and edited her scenes.
As for Leeloo still learning? Aren't we all until we go braindead? River dances around the reavers, chopping them to pieces or disarming half-drunken bar patrons, and you think she has nothing left to learn? I don't think the fight is as readily a forgone conclusion as you seem to, but I definitely put the advantages much more firmly in Leeloo's court.

I know Summer Glau is a dancer. I'm pretty sure your good with your decision to support Leeloo, and I'm good with mine for River. Your seem very gunho to fight for Leeloo and not putting up any support for River yourself, you just keep downplaying her with coordination.. it's a movie. I know Leeloo isn't defenseless, and it probably wouldn't be a ten second fight like you seem to think I'm insinuating. Either way what we think has no effect on what could be and won't ever be.. so dicussing it so vigorously isn't going to actually do anything. I like my conclusion, you like whatever your coming to.. the majority agrees with you.. does my opinion matter? Probably not, but I like to have it anyway.
