Default The Rolly-Polly Repository

(There's no poll here, but it's related to a bunch of threads which do have polls. So shush. )

So while working the graveyard shift last night, I had planned to study for my coming American History exam today, just because the part about slavery and indentured servitude in Colonial North America is threatening to kick my ass. Naturally, I got bored. So I decided "Oh, well, I already got an 80% on the practice exam and I'm getting a +5% for perfect attendance anyway, so phuck it." And from there I started to think up ideas for future Rolly-Polly Deathmatches, just because. And I committed them to paper. And I kept on thinking them up and committing them to paper....

Damn, I came up with a lot...enough to fill both sides of a sheet of paper, in fact. Even though I'll probably scrap several of the ideas, I'll still have plenty.

So now I'm thinking "Hey, I could make a thread with all these ideas! Hey, other people could contribute their ideas for future Deathmatches too! And hey, this could be a resource thread with a nice heap of "idea fuel" so that it'll be a long, long time before we run out of ideas...."

And with multiple people contributing multiple ideas, the posited ideas can interbreed and spawn yet more ideas. Old ideas die in the arena, new ideas are born wriggling from their remains...it's the Circle of Life, dudes.

Just because I'm fussy like that, I've done myself the convenience of grouping my ideas into a few identifiable types. You don't have to do that; I'm just being me again.

I was matching a death match earlier, before the internet crapped out at my job.

I nearly crapped myself thinking about the possibility of a Zorro vs. V encounter.

Oh and I did think of another good future Deathmatch, neither side of which has been mentioned yet (to my knowledge). Stay tuned...

Why do you say that? I'll tell you why: You like Duke's personality. But wise cracks and a cheap cigar won't win the battle. The Doom Marine is all 100% grim, stoic, determined work ethic. He doesn't have time to throw out snappy one-liners because he's too busy wading into the herds of Hell and kicking ass.

Besides, what has Duke Nukem done lately? Ooh, nice trailer. Gee, wouldn't it be nice if we could actually play it?

See? The Doom Marine and his kill-crazy work ethic run circles around Duke, in-game and out-of-game. Speak not to me of the inferior Duke Nukem.

I see you are either a huge Doom fan or a bitter Duke fan. Well, let me put it this way, the fact that Duke has a personality, and some wit beats the marine as it shows any creativity, the ability to have varied plans. The space marine is literally both a general idea, and blunt object, Duke adds a variety that shows superiority.

Edit: There was a more recent trailer

Ah, not a fan of the strong but silent protagonist, I see. But, to poke at the flaw in your reasoning, verbal razzle-dazzle does not a master tactician make. The Doom Marine works because he's a tried and true archetype. There's no flash, no glamour, no pearly teeth and cool shades. He's all muscle, body armor, shotguns, heavy combat boots and pain. Therefore, he will get the job done, time and time again.

And as a bonus, the Doom Marine's savvy enough to wear subdued green tones into a combat zone...none of this silly "bright red tank top and blue jeans" nonsense that would make him stand out like a starshell at a thousand yards.

Two masked men with blades duking it out. I agree. Instant classic.
