I do?
Yes. It's gonna happen to me. NO I am not reproducing. *shudder* On October 31, 2009 Amoeba Man & I will become man and wife. (as said by the priest in Princess Bride)
How did this come to be? Well, we knew we'd get married eventually. My health insurance is better and the other such benefits to marriage I know. After attending a cousin's wedding, we were discussing the various things we'd not have done and how we'd do things different. We both love the fall. We both really like to dress up for Ren Fairs and Halloween.
So we have a Halloween wedding and I am rather psyched about throwing a Renaissance themed party! I will not be wearing white, the dress will be blue I think, Something like this. Amoeba Man will be in period clothing as well. There is no shortage of seamstresses available online. My sisters and my Mom are looking forward to dressing up. My sister's Dad is going to dress up to walk me down the asile. My little nieces are princess crazy anyways so I'm sure they'll have no problems dressing up. I have cousins that I believe will participate in our costume ball. I don't know about the Aunts & Uncles though... the older crowd can be a bit stuffy & traditional. No church ceremony, no dollar dance, no garter/flower toss, no limo or other such wastes of money. The event will be held in a more rustic setting, darn that there aren't enough castle-like structures for rent in CT. BUT there are some nice farm type barn like halls that would do just fine. I am thinking of having a castle cake though.
One thing I am sure of is that we will have a good time and some really good food!
Cookies to Remianen for guessing what my 'big expense' will be in 2009 though by going a more non-traditional route, I hope to still have the funds for the big Guru outing.

Felicitations!
And your wedding sounds awesome. Ultimately it should be what YOU want it to be and how you two wish to represent your transition into a lifelong commitment together. So if the stuffy crowd doesn't get into it, their loss. Honestly though, I think they'll surprise you.
Sounds lovely! Congratulations again! I'm going to venture a guess that the Gurus will demand pictures when they become available.

^^ lol. I doubt the wedding will go like that... but sometimes, let me tell you... sometimes marriage goes like that.
You two are going to have an awesome life together. Part of me is sitting here thinking, "About damned time!"

Well it's better than a Zelda themed wedding, I guess.

Well congrats you guys.
Oh, and as for the older family members not wanting to dress up, I'm sure it just reminds them of their childhood to much

Mmmm, cookies.
Congrats you two! At least you acknowledge the expense involved. You have no idea how many people think weddings are these dollar menu special type deals ("We're having 200 people....it's going to be HOW MUCH? How 'bout 20 people?"). Also great to put your own personal spin on it.
If ya need any help at all, gimme a holler. I have folks I work with in Bridgeport, Stamford, and Norwich who might be of assistance. There are ways to even make the food fit your theme without literally having goulash (I've seen seafood gumbo "uglied up" to look like it).
