Default A Fractured state of mind.....

Since we're looking to get some forum RP's going, I thought it was finally time to get off my ass and post this thread.

Basically what I'm looking for is a "cliff notes" version of your character.
I think it might help when we do start our forum RP's and when we play in game, to understand where our characters are coming from and so certain things aren't "read" the wrong way.

Especially in game, where things can move very fast.

This worked pretty well back when I posted a similar one with the Bone Squad, so I'm looking forward to what kind of response it get's here. Especially considering the writers/imaginations we have assembled.....

Now, I'm not looking for a cut and paste version of your Origin...Think of it as a compliment to your Origin and something that bridges the HOW your character was created to WHY they became the person they are in Fracture.

Why do they react in a certain way when faced with difficult situations? How would they respond to a threat? How about weakness? Do they work as a team or are they soloists and the only reason they're here is because of some hidden agenda?

Hopefully this will help the rest of us understand your character's better. It would be great if the the whole team got involved and added their thoughts and opinions. That way, if/when we write about teammates, we have a lesser chance of depicting them in the wrong way.

Don't get me wrong, if there are things about your character that you want to hold back, then by all means do so. But since we're all on different playing schedules, I think it would be nice to have a general feel about our teammates even if we haven't done much in game together.

So here goes.....

Personal Log of Dr. Jane Devereaux PHD, Director Arykham Asylum
Subject: Deadzone
Date: January 7th, 2005

This log entry is based off of a series of interviews conducted while Deadzone was being held at the Asylum. (My analysis is in no way final and since I no longer have access to him, I have a feeling that this is as good as it's going to get in that regard.....)

Observations and Comments as follows:

Deadzone presents an imposing figure. The thing that so stands out about that comment is that it has almost nothing to do with his height or build but is just the....."aura" that he projects. Much of this may be a result of his mutant ability regarding darkness and, to a lesser extent, be a result of his costume.....however the feeling here is that even if all that was stripped away from him, he would still project....Malice.

It's an uncanny sensation and one that took considerable control to get used to.

While he can be somewhat engaging at times that fact of the matter is he's a killer...make no mistake about that. And never forget it. At times I got the feeling he was toying with me during our conversations...he could be very charming when he wanted, but beneath it all you could always sense the predator.....like a shark, sizing you up....testing you before he strikes.

He's not someone that you would want to turn your back on or wrong in any way. However, he isn't a random killer or a psychotic. He's not the type that would kill someone walking innocently down the street or climb a bell tower with an automatic weapon. When he does kill, he is deliberate and it has to have some sort of reason behind it.

What those reasons are, is a question in itself. He isn't one to talk much about his past.....however he will engage in conversation so long as the focus isn't him. Turn the conversation onto anything but himself however, and he can be quite direct....forceful.....passionate....

His motivations are his own, but judging by his body of work, certain things stand out. He was once a much sought after Mercernary so money was or is a factor. He is also former Military...and has seen a fair share of combat, although that's something he refuses to elaborate on.....whatever happened during his time in has definetely soured him on the whole "God and Country" attitude. Most of his recent battles have been against so called "super heroes". You don't see much in regards to petty crimes....

From the little I was able to gather, Deadzone's childhood was a miserable experience. During one session, he let his guard down and told me that the first thing he ever did in this life was kill his mother. When pressed for clarification, he told me that as he was being born, his mutant ability manifisted itself for the first time. His father told him that during his birth, the umbilical cord was wrapped tightly around his neck, nearly choking the life from him before he was able to take his first breath.

Without conscious thought, (he was a baby after all) he saved his own life by drawing the life force from his mother, killing her on the spot. It wasn't a malicous act and it was nothing he could control, however it drove his father insane with rage and grief. Any thing else about his childhood has been met with a stoney silence and further attempts to probe this area are not welcome.

He has a highly sarcastic sense of humor and world view. To him, people are sheep being led to slaughter. Their faith that a Hero will rescue them has made them weak and dependent. And the Heroes play off this need...they use it for their own benifit......

(Sidenote to Log: I have a feeling that his parents may have been heroes? Not quite sure where the feeling is coming from as he's never actually stated as much, but I'm sure I'm right on this...... Something that bears futher watching but I have to be careful...the results of a mis-step now would be.....bad.)

Random thoughts:

He can be fiercely loyal to those he respects, though gaining that respect is a difficult path.
He is disgusted by weakness and fear.

From watching tape and listening to his descriptions I can conclude that in battle, he is a fearless, relentless and vicious fighter. He asks for no quarter and gives none in return. His ability to litterally sap a person's life force makes him get stronger the longer a fight goes on.

-Along with his mutant ability, he is a highly trained combat fighter. A very, VERY deadly combination.
-His sarcasm is highly evident during battles. He uses a running commentary at times as a way to goad on his enemy into making a mistake.
-His military training makes him a tactical fighter although he's not much into pre-planning or over analysis.
-All he needs to know is his role in a plan and he'll make sure his part is carried out regardless of personal cost.

Off Track:

He seems to be capable of love and signs do point to the fact that he lost someone very close to him....although pressing him on this is a very bad idea. He does have his shields up and outside of his sarcasm he doesn't show much outward emotion to anyone or about anything. As I said, he can definetely turn on the charm if it suits his purpose, but again, the emotion behind it seems....off. Things do slip through from time to time that make you wonder about his true motives, but make no mistake....there isn't a soft and fuzzy center to Deadzone.

You may catch a glimpse of something unexpected from such a man, but a Shark is still a Shark regardless on if it doesn't eat everyone it comes in contact with.....sooner or later it's going to take a bite out of you.

__________________________________________________ ____________

That's about it for now....I'm sure I'll add more to this the more I play him....and also add in experiences from RP's and the like that change or adapt his personality. Dead is one of the first characters I've started playing without having a clear idea on what he's all about....so writing this out has actually helped me get inside his head a bit more.

To sum things up, Deadzone is one bad dude. He has a strong sense of belief in himself and his view on things. I guess the best way to look at him would be a mix of Deadpool and a Batman that's crossed the line.

He doesn't take **** from anyone, but he'll also defer to a leader/person he respects. How a person earns that respect is something I'm still working out. But he/she would have to aspects that Deadzone himself exhibits...

Anyone is free to use him in RP posts/stories. Hell, as with any character I've ever created, he will lose fights. I have no issues with anyone using him as a Nemesis to your hero and even having said Hero beat him in a fight. I'd just like some pre-warning that it's going to happen and have some input as to how it comes down.

If you do use him in that way, just know he'll get his payback....someday.

Anyway, that's it for now. I might add more as it comes to me, but I also wanted to save a good amount for in game and his backstory. Sorry if this got a bit long, but I hope you found it interesting and that it helps define Deadzone as a person and a teammate a bit more.

I'll post up Solace after I've digested/tweaked this a bit more....

I Look forward to reading some of yours. If you don't feel like adding anything, that's fine too. I'll just do things the hard way and track you down in game, tie you to a chair and hold a single bright lightbulb over your head......."Where were you on the night you were created???"

File Number: 1271941
Subject: Charolette Anne Eden
Date: 15 January 2003
Re: Final report status for employment, Castle Project
Security: Classified, file encryption process verified

Director Crowley,

Below you will find a summary of my evaluation for Charolette Eden. I conducted the standard physical, intelligence, and emotional tests to judge her potential as an employee. I have attached the specific details to this note to read as your time allows. Overall, I would highly recommend recruiting Eden from MI6 into the Castle Project. I'm sure the gentlemen in SIS would have no problem having another one of their own in our ranks.

Physical Evaluation: Eden displays above average strength for a human being. Accelerated metabolism present. Reflexes are superior.

The most obvious observation is Eden's ability to wield fire as a weapon and for protection. The Castle Project has had several employees in the past with the ability to control forces that are unnatural in every sense of the word. She used her powers to significant advantage during her time in MI6. I see no conflict in allowing her to work for us, and in fact, I see it as a tremendous benefit to our organization.

Intelligence Evaluation: Eden displays above average intelligence. She received a public education in Dublin from ages six to ten. In 1991, she moved to London with her mother and enrolled in another public school. She continued beyond basic education after 16, taking several A-level courses to qualify for university. The strength in her education is with history, politics, and philosophy.

She shows the ability to learn most tasks put in front of her, but Eden is weaker in mathematics than any other subject.

Emotional Evaluation: No major psychological conditions detected. She suffers from lonliness and isolation. Eden is the child of an extramarital affair and though she was eventually welcomed into her father's family, she exhibits an insecurity in terms of acceptance. Her training as in intelligence operative has conditioned her to hide this quite well, and I had to question her for several hours to obtain a greater understanding.

She tends to deflect questions she is uncomfortable with by using humor. Eden shows significant impatience with individuals who are indecisive or overly demanding. She believes in self-reliance and looks down on those who depend on others to fill some kind of need. I do not believe she scorns personal relationships, but I think she is cautious about who she invites into her world.

In regards to her ability to kill, I think her record at MI6 shows her to be efficient and judicious in the use of deadly force. She is absolutely not a sociopath. Eden takes a life only when she or her superiors have deemed it necessary. I believe the Castle Project's very lucrative opportunities will appeal to her. However, I think our goals as an organization will be more attractive in securing her employment for us. Eden is pragmatic if nothing else.

Other notes: Eden's aunt called in a personal favor to get her niece a chance to work for MI6. It is well known is certain circles that Diana Eden is in charge of the Fellowship of Armaros, a group of modern day witches. Their agenda is closely guarded, but I believe they're seeking ancient artifacts of some kind. Charolette Eden is also a member of this group, but I don't believe it will interfere with her employment. She never had a conflict of interests while working for MI6 and given our goals, it is unlikely she will have one if she is employed by the Castle Project.

I believe we have actually had one or two operatives in the past who were members of the Fellowship. You might want to check me on that one though.

Overall, Charolette Eden is well qualified for employment with the Castle Project. I suggest putting her into our European theater of operation. She's fluent in German, Russian, and French. Considering all the work we're getting in Moscow now, I believe she'd be very useful there.

If you have any questions, you know where to find me.

Matthew Smith, M.D.

*************

Ok, out of character now. My inspiration for Charolette came from a late night viewing of The Long Kiss Goodnight (Geena Davis/Samuel L. Jackson). She's tied into the story of my fire/fire corruptor that I originally had in Fracture.

Charolette has an agenda being in Fracrure, but she's not going to use its members...well, she won't abuse them. She believes having strong alliances is crucial to success in any field of operation. She won't break the law unless she sees a good reason for it, but she also thinks a lot of the rules that govern society are archaic and asinine.

I'm still working on her background, fears, weaknesses, and quirks. I haven't been rp'ing her a lot in game...I've become a slacker. And you know it's bad when you're slacking in a computer game. I'll put more up as I think of it!

VERY nicely done. Hell, you made me feel so bad about my initial post that I had to tweak it a bit.

"Excuse me, Dr. Kribbles?" A man in a white lab coat stopped concentrating on the papers at his desk and looked up. He saw a woman, brown hair tied tight in a pony tail, glasses on the edge of her nose, and pencil and paper at the ready sitting in front of him.

"Yes, is there something I can help you with?" She smiled, as though she had thought he would never say those words.

"As a matter of fact yes there is. My name is Anna Leery, you see I am doing an expose on the villain known as Whiptail, trying to find his roots, discover his origins. I want to know what makes him tick." The man absorbed all of this. He seemed to sink into thought for a moment, then with a sigh he responded.

"I see, you want to know about Dr. Grousse. Look, I will tell you what I know, but you are going to want to talk to the people over at the genetric splicing division. They worked closest with him, they knew him better then I did."

"Anything that you know would be fine Dr." She tapped her pencil to the pad and gave a slight bite to her lower lip. "Shall we begin?"

"When Dr. Grousse first joined us here he was the youngest man to ever join our team. He was absolutely brilliant, excelling in all manners of fields. Though his speciality and favored subject was always Gene splicing. It is a passion that kept him here late, and brought him back here early."

"And how did the other scinetists view him?" She asked as she fervently scribbled notes down on her pad.

"How do you think. They were jealous, spiteful in most cases. He was years, decades younger then most of our other scientists, yet was being given funding far exceeding anyone elses. He was the favorite of our military sponsors and was involved in a number of top secret projects especially for them. It was a position many of the other scientists would have killed for."

"I take it they did not just take it sitting down?" She paused her feverish note taking and looked up at him.

"No.. they-" he stopped to clear his throat. "They acted like children. They picked on him viciously, taunted him. They played cruel pranks on him. I did what I could to make them stop, but it usually resulted in petitions of favoritism to my superiors. There was little I could do. Dr. Grousse never seemed to mind. He was always so intent on his work."

"I see. Is there anything else that you could tell me?"

"I'm afraid you have reached the end of my knowledge." He turned his attention back to the papers on his desk. "I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you to leave now, I have a lot of work to get done and little time to do it in."

"Of course, thank you for your time." The reporter picked up her stuff. She reached into her case and pulled out a card. "This has my contact info on it if you feel there is anything else you know. Thank you once more. You have been a huge huge help to me."

"The pleasure was all mine. Good day to you miss Leery." She smiled and walked briskly out of the room. Once she was gone, Dr. Kribbles waited a few minutes longer, until he could no longer hear the footsteps, and then slowly walked towards the door and closed it. There was a soft click as he locked it.

"I have never forgotten how you tried to help me Dr. That is why I am offering you, and only you, this alliance." THe rodent like form of Whiptail emerged from the spare office in the rear of the room.

"Yes, I understand. I provide you with materials and equiptment from the lab, you provide me protection andassistance in my own.. private experiments. I am more then happy to accept your offer Dr. Grousse. I look forward to a long, profitible coalition." He held out a hand, which was met and shook by the clawed and scaly hand of the former Theodore Grousse.

"Indeed. I to look forward to our future experiments. But please, call me Grousse no longer. I have shed that name. I am now Whiptail."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm going to do a few more installments with this perspective. I'm gonna get a few more scientist's views, ending with one amazingly shocking revelation about Whiptail. =D Hope you like.

The dark haired woman walked briskly down the wide hallway, the clicking sound of her steps echoing throughout the open space. As she passed, the guards dropped to one knee, and the servants bowed their heads to the ground, giving the Queen of Eberron the respect not only due to her, but was commanded. Rounding a corner she stepped into the breezeway, continuing towards her destination with both her hair and gem encrusted robe fluttering behind her, reflecting the rays of sunlight off it in many shades of blue, red, silver and gold. As she approached the doorway it slid open with the faint sound of air rushing into the room, revealing what appeared to be a simple room furnished only with four chairs stationed above a platform.

"Begin transmission."

Her voice echoed for a few seconds, the demanding tone of it slicing through the silence as she swept her robe aside and took her seat in the second chair from the left.

"Voice and complete DNA analysis confirmed. Beginning transmission Queen Valentin."

She sighed as the cybernetic voice responded and was followed by a subtle hum. The platform below her flickered once then was filled by the image of an older man and woman sitting comfortably in chairs similar to the four found in this room. The older woman smiled faintly as the man nodded and spoke.

"Has Gunnar left for Earth already?"

"Yes father, he has. Slade remains here, saying his goodbyes and preparing."

The older woman's face wrinkled slightly as she sighed.

"While he wastes time, I'm sure Gunnar is already taking advantage of his foolishness and preparing."

A smile slowly crept up the sides of the Queen's lips as she spoke of her eldest son.

"Of course. He feels this is the opportunity he's waited his entire life for. I'm sure he told the two of you about it in detail during his last visit."

Her mother chuckled softly with a nod at the memory.

"He did. When he wasn't training he spoke of the changes he'd make once he finished this small task and was ready to become king."

"Aria, I do wish you would stress how important it is for him to further not only his physical prowess but his natural gifts as well. It is the one area I feel he is lapsing significantly in."

Shifting to the side slightly, Aria lifted her leg and crossed them, along with her hands in her lap.

"I've mentioned it to him, but I doubt he'd ever push them too much farther than they are now." She shook her head and chuckled. "It's one of the few things he and his brother have in common, they both enjoy the thrill of physical combat rather than that done on the plane."

Giving her a soft smile her father nodded.

"Indeed he does. You have truly raised a true warrior in at least one of your sons. I have not yet given up on Slade though. Perhaps this will be good for him..."

"You mean if Gunnar doesn't dispose of him as soon as he exits the Gate....I don't see him wasting any time at all. Once he sets his mind to something you have better chances of stopping the sun's rise and fall than changing his course."

"He is a stubborn one. Something I'm sure he takes from you Aria."

"True father...but I recieved it from both of you."

The laughter the three of them shared echoed around the room for a few moments before Aria spoke again.

"Rest assured, Slade will have adequate time on Earth before any decisive actions are taken by either of them. For whatever reasons, Slade believes he can possibly close this conflict without Gunnar's death, while I have Gunnar's word that he will not kill Slade for at least three months time on Earth. Aside from that, Gunnar is very interested in the people of Earth....I would not be surprised if he prolonged this if he is enjoying himself away from home. He's been spending less and less time offworld thanks to his father, and he is at that age..."

She sighed, shaking her head slightly.

"He has yet to take any woman here to his side for more than a season, so perhaps he can find something satisfying there."

"Yes, he spoke with me about the women brought to him. I believe he is simply bored with servants and princess hopefuls."

"And the two of you would rather he take a woman from another world as his princess?"

"Mother, if a woman there does by some chance prove worthy to him, I am sure she will make for a better princess than someone we try force upon him. At any rate, we still have people in place on Earth who will monitor them both."

"Good good. Keep us informed of how he is progressing. If it is needed we will contact him."

Aria nodded in agreement and smiled.

"I'm sure that won't be necessary father. Though I think I may pay him a surprise visit..."
