Very, very true. You are your own worst critic. :D

That's a nice thing to keep in mind, though. Usually, it's not as bad as you think. (One thing I have always recommended is never to throw anything away, no matter how bad you think it is. I did that once, and have regretted it ever since)

"Tristan... keep awake. Talk to me." Heather clapped Tristan's cheeks to keep him awake.

He flinched, unable to focus on anything.

"Hey Tristan, stay with me boy. How do you feel?"

"...c...cold..." His hands were like ice.

She cursed and checked around to make sure there weren't any enemies nearby, then rubbed Tristan's arms vigorously, careful of the injuries. He was losing lots of blood. Heather pulled out some emergency binding and tore off a chunk of her pants, creating a small pad that she pressed hard against him to hold off the worst of the blood flow. "Tristan, what do you say we get some drinks after this, eh?" Her voice was strained, just babbling to keep him talking.

".... drinks..." *cough* "... whis...key?" He muttered, trying to focus on her voice, even if he couldn’t seem to focus on her face. Sounds of the battle around still echoed in his ears. He moved a bloodied hand onto hers.

Heather was surprised at the touch, but grasped the hand tight. "Heh... only whiskey? You really are a wimp of a drinker. I bet you couldn't handle half of a Dragon Fire."

Tristan was trying to remember what a Dragon Fire was... actually, he was trying to make sense of words... but feeling another hand was calming... keeping him there. Awake. He closed his eyes for a moment, just concentrating on breathing...

"Don't you dare sleep, Tristan. Here, how about we play a game? I'll say a word and you say the first thing to come into your mind. How about... sword?"

He groaned. A blade had put him down like this to start with... though really all he thought was "...pain..."

"Uh..." Heather tried to think of a response that wouldn't keep him focused on his aches. "Training."

Going for a few deep breaths, amazingly numb despite his injury, he responded, "....l...lesson."

~Dammit,~ she thought,. Where was the medic? Tristan was getting worse... "Remember."

"...f...father..." Maybe his hearing was going, but he thought he heard feet approaching... maybe it was his father, come to take him home, put him to bed...

Heather's voice came through the haze vaguely. "Hang on, Tristan! It'll be okay, just hang on. You can't give up the fight that easily!..."

"Hea...ther..." Clinging to the sound of her voice, any sound that would keep him present, he tryied to force delusions from his quickly clouding mind... tried to squeeze her hand, albeit weakly. He was afraid... so afraid, suddenly... "... af...fraid..."

Unknown to them both, a handful of battered but able warriors bearing supplies approached, taking hacks at the occasional straggling attacker on the way.

Heather squeezed Tristan's hand tighter, still pressing the compress against his body. "Dammit boy, keep yourself together! You're more stubborn than this! Fight, boy, fight!"

She sounded worried. He tried to give a tiny smirk, though his face felt strange. "...*cough* d...amn... *more coughing* ...s...straight..." *gasping for air again*

Heather gave a weak smile. "I bet my treatment will seem like motherly affection after all of this, huh?"

The medics finally arrived before Tristan could answer, and immediately set about to helping staunch the blood loss and prepare him for removal to someplace safe. One young man turned to Heather. "Sorry it's taken so long to get here, ma'am... we have our hands full... plenty of others wounded, and he's farthest out that we've seen..."

Heather picked herself up, brushing off her gloved hands. "Just do your best to keep him alive. I'll have your hides if you don't." Hefting her sword, she went to find more of those bloody foes to slice up. Best to keep from thinking, only led to worrying right now. Her soldiers still needed her.

Hmm. I've had one person ask about the rest of the story that connects to the above pic... would it be more interesting if these things came with story clips? I'm not sure they're more than simple eye candy otherwise.

Any sayers yea or nay?

If only all of these damn ogres carried maces… thought Tristan, easily dodging another fierce blow. Had it caught him, it would have taken his head off, but the half-elf had quickly discovered his speed was far superior to that of his mace-wielding adversary. SLASH! Up the creature’s belly. And the ogre was down.

He wheeled around just in time to duck a spear, then made a run for the thrower, who hadn’t time to draw his sword before he was cut down by an elvish blade to the throat. Immediately, he turned to parry another ogre, who swung a nasty crude blade at him. The blow knocked him to the ground, unharmed, but shaken.

“Note to self… dodge, don’t block,” he muttered, rolling out of the way of a downward hack, slashing the ogre across the knees, severing tendons, and bringing it down. A thrust to the neck finished it. Tristan stopped to take a breath. There were more. Too many. He glanced around himself… five at least. Not all of them had noticed him yet, some had. That wasn’t really the problem…

The problem was that he wasn’t sure where the rest of his battalion had gone.

Damn… Alone. Alone isn’t good… I can’t fight all of these abominations alone… he thought. His worries were interrupted by a bellowing assailant charging him. Two more started in at the same time. Cursing to himself, Tristan dodged out of the way, narrowly missing being impaled on a halberd as three ogres collided, one skewering a comrade with a pike. The ground was slick with ogre blood. Backing up toward an oak tree, Tristan caught his breath… here came the fellow with the halberd again… and his buddy with the pike, freshly stained with the blood of his fallen compatriot.

Don’t move…

The ground trembled underfoot as the ogres lumbered toward him, brandishing their arms and leering menacingly. Tristan held his ground before the tree.

Don’t move…

They were mere feet away… Tristan could almost feel the cold steel…

Jump!

He threw himself out of the way, and pike and halberd sunk into the oaken trunk instead of elvish flesh. Taking full advantage of the opportunity, Tristan made short work of the halberd fellow, and turned to take care of the ogre with the pike.

Jab.

Strange… the sensation of cold steel in his guts… Tristan blinked for a moment… how had that happened? The ogre was grinning down at him – if such an ugly creature could grin – its meaty hand wrapped around a crude dagger. A dagger that was buried hilt-deep in Tristan’s flesh.

SHWAK! Tristan lopped the ogre’s hand off, strangely feeling no pain… The beast roared in agony… a lament cut short by an elvish blade to the throat. The ogre toppled. Tristan stood for a moment… panting, one hand clutching his sword, the other hand gingerly feeling the hilt of the dagger that had violated his body. He was spattered liberally with blood…

… some of it his own.

He swallowed. Looking around, he could still hear the foes milling about in the woods... if he were attacked again, he would be helpless… feeling a bit strange now, barely aware of how much blood he was losing, he staggered away from the scene, collapsing a few dozen yards away, panting from the exertion…

It stung… Not as bad as he expected it should… that worried him… should he call for help? What if the ogres found him first? He coughed. Spat out blood. The dagger in his gut was starting to hurt… should he pull it out? Leave it in? It was starting to burn… His head felt funny… swallowing back more blood, he lay down.

I need help… he thought. “Help…” he groaned, surprised at the lack of force his own voice carried. “Anyone?”

(Sorry, this is in RP format, and coming in on the middle of a conversation where Tristan was away for a few days, or otherwise behaving abnormally... He is fighting Heather, of course... yes, who is also the woman caring for him previously.)

"How can you call me good for nothing? I provide you with hours of entertainment and stress relief!" *sore grin* "You missed having reasons to beat up on me so much that you invented ones!"

*Another thwap over the head* "I don't need to make up excuses, you keep giving me reasons all the time!"

*making a run for a wall of weaponry and grabbing a staff of his own* "Oh I am not giving in that easily... you either have to admit genuine concern for my well-being, or you have to admit friendship and even the tiniest sliver of 'like' toward me. Your actions proved that much over the last two weeks... So bring it on." *cocky grin*

*Heather spun her staff lazily* "Yeah yeah, quit talking big and show me some actual performance!"

"You're right. It's time I paid some attention to the main woman in my life..." *Faking an overhead attack and going for her side, a grin of pure, devil-may-care enjoyment on his face*

*Heather stuck out her tongue* "You're one weird brat." *She deflected the side swipe and made a quick thrust at Tristan's gut*

"You wouldn't have me any other way, we both know that..." *managing to put a little extra distance between them and tense for the blow... it stung, but at least she hadn't knocked the wind out of him this time... he took a wild leap to one side when she made a swipe at his shoulder. He went for her lower back, which she blocked, then took the opportunity to plant his heel in the back of her knee, throwing her off balance.*

*She stumbled and cursed, knowing she was open for attack. It came as a sharp strike to her lower back. She arched in pain, then spun around to knock his shoulder, which he blocked.* "I may have grown used to your irritating behavior, but don't delude yourself. I'm always going to antagonize you and you'll always get under my skin. There's no getting around it."

"Wouldn't have it any other way, Heather... wouldn't have it any other..." *WHACK! Right across the gut. Suddenly unable to breathe, Tristan fell to his knees. Dangit. Heather had won again.*

*Heather shouldered her staff* "Better luck next time, boy." *She grabbed his arm and helped Tristan to his feet.* "Who knows, you may get the better of me someday." *She smirked, then walked away to put up the staffs*

*snicker* "When pigs fly..."

(If anyone out there knows a thing about staff combat, keep it to yourselves, because clearly neither I nor Heather's writer does!) ;)

well finally got the picture redone semi to my satisfaction now if only the bloody thing would upload to photbucket si I can show it off. It's not the greatest I can never seem to get a decent smile out of any of these figures and the bone structure is probably a bit off but I think they are recoginzable. If nothing else I will burn them to a disk and take them to work with me in the morning and upload from there.

Well I did have a few curly hairs but in my opinion most of them don't really look very good, and the one I do have that I like wouldn't have shown off the ear and doesn't morph well.

Just so you know, the only pictures in this gallery that were colored entirely with those pens are the elf with the staff, the hard-body woman looking over her shoulder, and the elf being mobbed by three drow. The rest are either colored pencil, or those markers with colored pencil on top of them. And please forgive the color on all of them, my scanner does evil things to color.

Tried all bloody day yesturday to get this picture loaded to go with this drawing. Ended up stopping by Walmart on the way home to pick up some floppy disk. This morning saved it along with another to to upload got to work and discovered my new computer did not have a 3.5 floppy drive but lucky some fo the other computers still do. Went to one of them to email the images to my computer and none of the computers up here would read the disk, beyond telling me there was something on it. So went home for lunch and tried to open it on my computer at home it wouldn't open there either. So I reformatted the disk, resaved, tried to open the images and it worked so now here we have this image.

I work on Bristol Smooth paper, but it comes in two sizes, of which I have both. 9 x 12 (which is a little bigger than a standard sheet of printer paper), and 11 x 14, which is the next size up.

Please let me know which you prefer... I usually tend toward the larger, because I figure people think bigger is better, but if you have a preference, now is the time to say so, before I actually start.

How do you prefer your drow skin? Black? Dark Grey? Light Grey? Or that weird blue-purple color some use?

I've been working my butt off to get Nyx to level 20 so I could get her her cloak so that I could enter the CoH Costume Contest this Halloween... I have a Kick-butt costume put together for her too!! And a great origin. And she screenshots well.

And what do they do?

Dress up as your VILLAIN.

I don't WANT to. Darnitall, I've worked too hard on Nyx. Her costume, her character, as well as the physical outfit I've been putting together for it. Despite her dark past, she's a heroine, dangit.
