Forgive the multiple personality of this thread. I'm trying to be efficient by making two different announcements in one post.
Mr. Lummy and I have officially started our out-of-state job searches today (what a way to spend spring break :-/ ). We are currently focusing on the San Francisco Bay Area but will also look at cities in Virginia, Texas, North Carolina, and Colorado to start. Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions in my other thread. Depending on what happens we may revisit some other places mentioned in that thread as our selection process and job hunts shape out.
So that's very exciting.
The sad part is, I just got a call from my mom. They will be putting my dog down this coming weekend. I know it's the humane thing to do; he's old and his quality of life is deteriorating, but it still makes me sad to have to say goodbye to him. I have a photo of him on my cell phone that my dad sent to my phone. I would love to post it here but I have no idea how to get it from my phone to my computer. In any case, I'm pretty bummed about that. Hard to think about.

Good luck on the job searching. Hope it goes really well. Might I cast a vote for Virginia? :chuckle:
And I'm sorry to hear about the doggie.
It's always a bummer to let have to let our pets go.
Awesome news as far as the job searching goes, Alum, and that does suck you have to do it over Spring Break. I'd be pretty bummed out too. Sorry to hear about your dog. I remember when they had to put my guinea pig to sleep. That cut me deep. And if you have Verizon, you can send it to the Pix Place, and get it off of there.

If I lived in your city, Lummy, I'd be buying you two drinks right now: One to celebrate the job, the other to drown your heartache over your dog. Get well soon? :(

As someone who has lived in the Bay Area all my life, I hope you're prepared for the Cost of Living out here. The closer you are to the city (aka San Francisco), the higher it goes. Of course the salaries around here reflect that, but it's still a hefty sum. I only mention it because if I remember right you're moving from the midwest.
Anyway, good luck with the search. :)

I still cast my vote for Bergen County, NJ. Lots of job opportunities, and we're 15 minutes from New York City without all the crime :)

Sorry about the dog, I remember when mom and dad had to do this to Leroy. You can email the cell phone picture to yourself, or send it to one of us who knows how to use email on our cell phone ((can't imagine, Virgina, Trip, or Red don't know how to do this, 'specially Trip)).
Good luck on the job search, a virtual work colleague just moved to Colorado, on of the flat land cities, and loves it. He was virt office and his wife was teacher, so maybe the same thought.

Glad to hear your choices, Alummy. :) At least you are giving all a chance; you did mention those are the cities you are looking at to start with.
As for the dog, I am sorry.
Now, I feel the need to post something. But gonna make a seperate thread.

Yeah, I lived in the Bay in the early 90s and got stuck with a lease there until '99 (oy!) and it was no joke, even then. Luckily, there are a lot of suburbs and outlying cities that aren't that far away (Alameda, San Leandro, Richmond, Vallejo, San Bruno, etc). Personally I wouldn't recommend the Bay area for the same reasons I wouldn't recommend my own city.
Don't stress over the dog. The way you describe it, he lived a full life and probably had more than his fair share of highlights. I can't mourn anyone or anything that can say that (IMO, it's selfish). Wish him well on the next stage of his journey and find solace in all the great experiences you've had together. :)
