Quite clearly this was an exceptionally well thought out plot fueled by the minds of Doc Oc, Green Goblin, and The Chameleon, using a piece of venom or Carnage's symbiote to conceal the brick from Spider-Man's spidey-sense in order to knock him senseless and trap him in an amnesiatic state much like the Mad Hatter tried to do to Batman in one of the Batman: TAS episodes with his dream machine.

Clearly

So I guess Spidey sense is great for letting you know ahead of time if one of your rogues gallery is about to attack you, but it's useless against bricks.

omg, I remember that episode!!!

And it was an excellent episode, akin to the Batman Beyond ep where Bruce has a microtransmitter in a bandage on his head while someone tried to make him think he's crazy.
Bruce: "I knew I wasn't crazy."
Terry: "How?"
B: "The voice in my head kept calling me Bruce."
T: "So?"
B: "In my mind that's not what I call myself."

Apparently Spider-Man has a history full of screw-ups. (http://danarchy.youfailit.net/Spiderman/) :D
