Anyone got any good ideas for a name for a dog themed character? I've been wracking my brain for anything that doesn't just sound silly and I can't come up with a thing.

I will say, if you are looking for a strictly "Funny Animal" from the "Funny books", you will have luck finding a name, even some serious names. For example, I am pretty sure "Hour Man" is taken (or legally withheld by NCSoft), but "Hour Dog" is probably free. Hell, just experiment and just substitute "Dog" for "Man/Woman/Boy/Girl". :)

Need help with a naming. This is always the hardest part for me. Character is for the Temporal Guardians.

Charles Jenkins grew up among the wealthy elite of Paragon City, his dad a Stock Exchanger in Steel Canyon. Even though he attended a prestigious private prep school, he was the target of constant bullying, becoming the subject of much ridicule from his other classmates. This all changed when Charles was fourteen and literally snapped. The other teen suffered from a sever bite mark on his right shoulder while almost having his neck almost snapped off. There is no doubt that he would have died were it not for four adult staff members yanking Charles off of the “poor boy.”

Clearly Young Jenkins was to be expelled. His father decreed his enrollment into a JROTC military school with a program of strict discipline. However, life was not that simple… for the bully’s father held much weight on Mr. Jenkins trade portfolio. The blackmail was simple, if the boy was not exiled entirely from his father’s care then there would be no choice but use his political capital to end Mr. Jenkins career. In the face of financial ruin, Mr. Jenkins left his boy on the barren streets to fend for himself as if he was nothing more than an inconvenient pet.

Strangely enough, Charles did exceedingly well for himself. He was survivor, and lasted the next two years without incident before being hired as a Mechanic for Papa Johnny’s Auto Repair Center. John Smith was a kind old man who had a thing for runaways. He took care of them, sheltered them from the law, and gave them what scraps he could. In the end Papa Johnny was a better father then Charles ever had, who more importantly kept him out of the gangs that constantly beat the snot out of him for not joining up. On his Seventeenth birthday, Papa Johnny gave Charles an issue of Manticore Issue #1 and said nothing more than just think about it.

It was in that moment that Charles new he was destined to be a superhero. His tolerance for pain was thick and he enjoyed the added freedom being a hero would bring. He could literally do anything he wanted as long as he did not break one cardinal rule: Thou Shall Never Kill. Believing that punks should feel first hand what they delivered, he took on the Alias of Jack the Ripper. Going out at night with nothing more than a mask and a switch blade, he would beat any would be muggers within an inch of their life and then leave a note stapled to their limbs stating “Jack was Here.”

Needless to say Jack drew the attention of much of the public, including Villains. Professor Chaos was beyond demented. As a Telepath, he had been driven insane from the constant bombardment of mental thoughts and committed himself to destroying the very fabric of time and space. Jack would be his most prized weapon, his crowning design. With his superior powers, he easily captured the boy. It was in his laboratory that Jack faced brutal unending torture of the mind, body and spirit. He was pushed to the human limit, then pushed beyond it and broken.

The goal was to create an unstoppable beast of pure rage and fury. Professor Chaos installed metallic spikes filled with poisonous toxin to aid his abomination. Naming this new creation Entropy, he set to let it loose upon the universe. However, his work did not go without being noticed by the Temporal Guardians. They soon intervened, but not before Entropy was thrown into a time portal to that of 19th Century England. The battle was relentless before the assailant could be subdued. Seven servants were killed by the creature while narrowly escaping with her life was that of Jessica Bowman, future great-grandmother of Virginia Bowman, nanny of Manticore, the eighth and intended target.

After months of rehabilitation, the psyche of Charles was recovered. Horrified by what he had unwilling done, Charles was determined to stop evil more than ever before yet equally determined to recover and preserve his lost humanity. He eagerly accepted an invitation to join the Temporal Guardians in order to help pay back the debt that could never be repaid. Yet secretly he felt this would be his one shot at what he wanted most of all… revenge. Who in the end will win; the man, the beast or the machine? Only time will tell for sure.

The basics idea of this is a “What If” story. What if Wolverine had become a horseman of Apocalypse instead of Angel, which personally I think would have made a lot more sense. So I made him a hybrid of Wolverine and Archangel, much like I originally did with Graphite, who was a hybrid of Colossus and Cable. I wanted to give him a Nemesis, so threw together elements of Apocalypse and Professor X. If some one wants to use him, or he never shows up, that’s fine with me. Who knows, maybe an appearance in the Architect is warranted later down the road.

So, thoughts?

Instead of an animal, how about something like "Primal Scream" or "Feral" something? Play off the fact that he goes into a berserk fury when fighting. (To him it's more a reminder of the danger than to scare his victims) Maybe even use "Ripper" from his original name.

I'm guessing the most obvious combos would be taken, but maybe play around with it and see what is free.

Oh, another alternative, though, would be Chimera. It would be related to Manticore, whom he draws his inspiration from, but relate more to the changes he's been through. Plus, Manticores throw spines. Chimeras don't, but the connection might be close enough, or you might try using Manticore in some way.

I like Chimera. Getting Dark Blast as and Epic Pool and turning the powers red could have been very bad ass. I would have been surprised if it wasn't already in use. Thanks for the heads up Melty that is already owned by the Devs. Echidna could work too maybe some how.

What I really liked is how Angel's name became Archangel after Apocalypse and would like to mirror it some how. There is a concept called Free Entropy, but no one would understand the reference. Having the name Confront would be silly. Maybe figure out way to make Impale or Ripper work.

Since most of you reside on Virtue, I can let these name ideas I've been tossing around loose.

I've been thinking of creating an SS/Fire brute and tossing around backstory ideas and names. What's odd is, I usually come up with the name and basic costume idea and then the backstory. This time, I've got the backstory fleshed out but can't settle on the name. Since I've been playing a lot of Mass Effect recently, I came up with several names from planetary descriptions. Only a few fit though. Some of the ones I've kicked around:

Arid Malevolence
Aridania (somewhat of a play on her surname, Arredondo)
Pyrexia
Arid Pyrexia
Pyrogen (or Pyrojen)
(The) Pyrogen of Power (or Pyrogen Power)
(The) Pyrogen of Malice (or Pyrogen Malice)

I dunno, they did a pretty good job of combining the Spines and the original monstrous female Titan from the Greek into a single concept. Kind of made her sound like Medusa, though.

After reading the backstory, there's no way that character would want anything to do with 'Entropy'. If anything, he'd want to move as far away from that name (in any form) as possible.

How about Ketaphen? It's a partial combination of Ketamine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ketamine) and Phencyclidine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phencyclidine) (aka 'PCP'), both of which are "dissociative anesthetics" which, in layman's terms, means they block certain signals from other parts of the brain. The most commonly used example is PCP's ability to create the illusion of invulnerability (as it blocks pain receptors). Admittedly, it would fit Pain Domination better (since the entire set is one big dissociative anesthetic) but it does fit Willpower too.

And very good point that I hadn't considered Remianen. I also think that his life has been so severly altered that the name Ripper wouldn't apply at all. So... that leaves the best choice as something like Chimera (which is already taken by mirrored Manticore). Talk about rock and a hard place.

If you're married to Chimera, find a synonym for it or (like I usually do) find a condition that fits the name and use a disambiguation of that condition.

Like, people can be chimeras via merged DNA.

Thing is, with Joe we knew who had the name. He was an inactive player. Joe managed to track down, either by global or by the CoH.com forum screenname he used pre-beta. Essentially, Joe had just enough information on the guy to find his AIM screenname. Joe was too nice to badger the guy, so he handed the job of pestering the dude day in, day out to an asshole like me. Eventually I wore him down, he reactivated and deleted the name, more to get rid of me than anything else. The rest is history.

So, yeah, unless you can find a way for me to pester the shit out of the guy holding Tark...

Originally I was aiming for a really good owl costume to go with something like Snow Owl, White Owl, Owl Man or maybe Archimedes.. but all those names are taken. I envisioned either a Martial Arts style natural fighter, or as the image shows.. a magic user. I actually started with just the Valkyrie mask and the Valk shoulders.. eventually I found a nice picture of a owl with those bright yellow/orange eyes and everything went from there. Might tweak some more, but I love both looks alot.

Back of Cape is Brown and would be a full cape if it was available at lvl 1. So far he (unfortunately) has no real origin to speak of. The inspirations were Warlocks from WoW and the CoT, but really, what sets would I possibly enjoy playing on a Dom. Maybe I've been watching too much Charmed with my GF lately, but the plan was just to name him after the Demon that possessed him. So... I know I bought "a chunk" of slots when they opened up to 36 (maybe two or three chunks?) and I have some Vet rewards, so those slots, plus the two should be free.

And yeah, at this point, not sure if it's over all servers or not. I can't imagine them changing too drastically in that each server had it's own character list per server; I don't see it going "European" (Age of Conan et al) in forcing a "Master List" of characters on us; what if we had two characters with the same name on different servers? Maybe we pick and choose which characters and which servers?

I'm not too worried about Virtue, but I should remember to log in and check again. I haven't even loaded up "Going Rogue" yet.

Yeah, you have to pick favorites that you want to play. But all characters you made before will stay there, just being locked out. So you don't really "lose" anything just rather get restricted to a set number of chars.

I hope that there will be an option to switch these Slot tokens so you could reactivate another character while locking a previous active one when you get fed up playing this one.

Anybody got some good ideas for a Plant Dom? I decided to kill off my Brute and keep my Street Justice Tanker instead. So while I have a free slot I thought about making another Dom or Controller with Plants, because I've said it before..Seeds of Confusion is just too good.

I let go of Botanical Betty awhile back... so unless someone else already took it, that's free. You could also add Botanical to any other B-names for the same kind of alliterative fun. What secondary are you thinking of to go with plant?

In the past I had a really stupid test character with plant dom I named Chloro-Frank. Kind of a stupid play on Chlorophyll and some guy named Frank...but that should be open now

I ended up re-using my last Dominator, I called her Lunar Orchid. Had to think of Moon-Plant something. Did they change up Earth Assault? I really like it. I don't think I tried it with another Dominator but I like that it has a lot of range moves. I had thought the first attack they give you was an up close attack, but I like it targets. Pretty much I'll jump in when all of the enemies are confused and hit Tremor and run out and start throwing more seeds in. I skipped the mass tangle move, because when I first took it on my first Dominator, it just switched the aggro to me because it just keeps them in place, but leaves me wide open for ranged attacks. Really enjoying it so far, can't wait to put some more time into her when I come back from vacation.
