Maz sat outside the Club 51. There were a few more hours until his shift was over and he could head off to practice the lighting routines, and it was Dead Boring.
The freezing rain was keeping folks away from the club, and it wasn't like it was exactly a Paragon City hotspot to begin with. It was such a slow night that those Hellions who tried to bust up the place were a welcome relief.
He thought about giving some of the chicks a call to see if they were free for some Coffee before practice, maybe see if he could get off early tonight since it was so dead.
"Might as well get this over with..." he thought as he pulled out his cell phone and dialed Petra's number
RIIIIIING RIIIING
"Good evening, you've reached Petra Millian at Hero Corps, I am either away from my desk, or on the other line assisting a customer, please leave your name and number after the tone and I will get back to you as soon as possible, thank you for calling Hero Corps, and have a nice day"
Great... her bloody machine... he thought...'allo Petra, it's Maz, gimme a call." well, who's next on the list..Maz thought as he dialed the next number on his list.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Petra is down in the basement storage of her employers building. The walls are lined with row upon row of file cabinets. She is leaning on a table with stacks of boxes and files scattered upon it.
*sneeze* Ugh. You think that with a big company like this they'd have maintenence come through here every so often to clean. Huh. 'Special Projects' my foot. Petra scowls. They just couldn't get anyone else to file this crap so they unload it on me. I haven't been to my desk all day! The crap I put up with just to get some extra money in my paycheck. *sneeze* That's it. I'm taking my break early. I need some fresh air! She dusts off her hands on her already dusty pants and makes her way out of the netherworld that is the basement.
I'll just wash up and check my messages before I head out. She thinks to herself as she navigates the maze of cubicles, I wonder if anyone even noticed the little file girl wasn't around today. Nine months and most of em STILL don't know my name.
Finally making it to her small desk, Petra starts to listen to her messages as she gathers her coat and purse. The last message makes her stop. 'Allo Petra, it's Maz, gimme a call. The phone announces the time and date stamp for the message. It was only an hour ago.
A grin creeps across Petra's face. Well now. Maybe my luck is about to change for the better. This project is going to take me weeks to go thru. Knocking off a bit early one day isn't going to hurt anything. She starts to dig through her purse for her cell as she purposefully strides for the nearby exit, swiping her ID badge at the door scanner.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
He was about to give up calling when his cell phone started playing "99 Red Balloons" by Nena. Petra had finally gotten his message. "evenin Petra, whatcha doin? I was just wonderin if ya wanted ta go for a bit o' coffee or somethin? it's dead over here at the '51."
"Sure thing, what did you have in mind?" Petra replied.
"Well, there's a Superjava over here... That's right, you've never been to the Club 51 have you? Ok, well, head on over to the Gish area in Kings Row, we're right on the corner of 5th an Main. You might wanna bring some pepper spray or... nevermind... I forgot... Anyhow, keep yer eyes open, there's been a gang war goin on tween the 'ellions an Skulls again, But I'll keep an eye out for ya gel"
After getting of the phone with petra, he quickly left messages with the rest of the chicks ta call him back.
