Yeeep. The City of Boston declared war on the Mooninites.
Seriously. What the shit is wrong with them? How are those things anything resembling a bomb? Especially when they've been up in at least 10 other major cities (even where I live, appearantly) and Boston was the only city to flip out over it. AND they arrested the poor guy that was hired to put them up. AND adult swim actually issued this big public apology, after the gov't officials are trying to in the blame for the whole freaking-out on them.
In closing, Boston is dumb.

I hear they want to charge the guy with planting false explosives (or something like that) Which seems odd to me. I mean wouldn't that mean you were setting fake bombs out there. Not light brights that morons thought were bombs.

Seriously, if you can be arrested for having something that SOMEONE ELSE THINKS IS A BOMB, BUT ISN'T, that's pretty much like, "You haven't committed any crime, but I thought you did. So you go to jail anyway."
I find it hard not to think this isn't a really bad sign.

Two guys were arrested, the judge released them, the case is ongoing. Also, you can pick up one of the 'bombs' on ebay for about two grand.

Hey, it's not my fault ya'll are slow on this one. The two guys that were arrested, when they walked out of the courthouse, their attorney told them not to mention the case so they stated they'd only answer questions about hair.
Every question that was asked, they replied with "That's not a hair question."

I think the funniest thing about it is the reporters said they weren't taking it seriously, then when they insisted the questions be about hair and the reporters wouldn't listen, they said the reporters weren't taking them seriously. :D

In closing, Boston is dumb.
Do not blame us for inadequate police, we cannot be generalized by idiotic politics who are elected to office, and thus feel they need to do something big to be remembered, I mean look at Bush we don't.....ok I kinda generalize Texas by him, but this is different.
Edit: Woot on the Museum of Science getting in there, next to Fenway, that may be my favorite place in all of Boston. My Mom used to work there so I spent so much time there, I could find my way blind folded...and they may have the best zesty curly fries ever

MOS is one of my fav places on the planet.
Also what the news media and the boston officials seem to be glossing over is that these things were up for atleast 2 weeks. I mean, the police should try to throw this under the rug, since apparently the "bombs" were up in public view for 2 weeks without anyone complaining.

As someone who lives in the Boston area and works in Downtown Boston yeah it's pretty damn embarassing for the city. Menino is as usual a joke and he's going to be a pain in the ass about this, like asking people to boycott the movie  I just want to see the whole thing dropped especially since this morning Turner took out ads in both major newspapers here taking responsibility and they will pay for all the costs. It's okay to be vigilant but this was overkill.

Best part of that interview was when the reporter asked the guy if he was afraid his hair would be cut off in jail.

Two weeks, huh? That is an embarassment. Not just because of them overreacting in the first place, but it took them *that* long in their government funded local anti-terrorist post 9/11 efforts not to oerreact to it sooner. Seems like a good issue to bring to light.
Yeah, the news media only shows these guys prancing about like they don't take it seriously and no real audio from the interview. I only heard one comment from the long haired guy about his hair as he held it out; made him look like a disrespectful idiot. Probably best if they avoided/not answered questions with straight faces so as not to give the press any ammo to use against them.

Glad to hear it.
The more the public makes "light" (pun intended) of this, the better. If you want to make the mayor/police chief of Boston look like an idiot to the nation's eyes, now is the time to do it. Sure, he could always back down and drop this case because of public pressure, but at least you would put some egg on his face.

Well I think many people already knew Menino is an idiot. Ed Davis, the new police commissioner, actually just left the city I live in to take this job. I think he's just over his head right now. I think at this point the whole thing just needs to be dropped, the costs are going to be covered, but the media just won't leave it alone.

I don't know specifics, since I am not there to observe, but many politicians keep themselves isolated with a bunch of "yes" men. In other words, they don't know what their constituents are thinking. It is either ignored, blocked, or unrecognized. Bush Jr. is a prime example of this (and is not representative of Texas...Iggy).
It may be dropped, but the news media noawadays likes to feed the paranoia of every little stupid thing that can be overblown. Many of the national news outlets are treating this as "serious", which we all know isn't, but "Joe-Watcher" is glued to his set. I think one critic pointed out and wondered why Cartoon Network, being owned by Turner Broadcasting, could not have gone "down the hall" to CNN, another Turner property, and just cleared the mess up. Of course, they aren't just down the hall from each other (I think CNN is based out of Atlanta and Cartoon Network LA), but a phone call woulda been nice.

Not just two weeks, two weeks in ten cities. Nine other cities had no problems. They've started taking the doohickeys down, but that didn't start till after the news broke. New York was able to get two or three of them. The rest are on ebay.

The 24 hour news media can be blamed for this situation more than anything else. If they didn't spend all this time hyping the hell out of the "hoax devices" for 48 hoursthen the Mayor and crew would have slightly less egg on their face to drive them to unjustly persecute people.

Agreed, was one of the first places I was alowed to walk around by myself while my Mom worked, and I got to use her ID card and got discounts everywhere, and even got to go to the food court through the animal room(by the elevators to the floors like where my Mom worked, good shortcut) and I got to see every exhibit if I wanted.

Ok, I find reminiscing is far better then trying to defend my city because of a few morons who can't tell the difference between a strobe light and a shotgun if they were tested.

Well, missed most of the news today, but from what I've seen, it seems the news media is calming down a bit. Just saw a report explaining that these things were in other cities. It even interviewed a woman who grabbed one of these blinking displays, knowing it was advertising. She states it sits on her file cabinent at work now and generates a nice amount of comments. Maybe if she knew about E-Bay....
So the other side of this story finally rears it's head and doles out the common sense. But, of course, most people focus on the initial hysteria story (ie : humourless officials who follow the letter of the law too closely ie : arresting a recent rape victim for a 3 year old arrest warrant when she came to the police for help). This story MAY have a chance of blowing itself over and being forgotten in a decent amount of time.

Actually, I'd have thought that would've pushed Boston off the front page, so to speak.
My gods... the stupidity... *face palm*
This is one of the rare instances where I hope someone gets sued. I hate frivolous lawsuits, but this one is needed. Jeeze... Here, lets throw the victim of a violent rape in jail, deny her the morning after pill on religious grounds, deny her any sort of traumatic counseling and convince every woman in the state not to report violent crimes committed against them! Woo-freakin-hoo!
