I'm trying to help a friend with her homework, and I think I know the answer but it's been a while. I think the answer is (z+2)(z^2-2z+4).

Sorry bud, but this is serously one of those you have to know straight from memory.
My suggestion is look it up on a math table like a Calc text book.

err, yeah thats the right answer:

z^3-2z^2+4z+2z^2-4z+8
or
z^3 + [-2z^2+2z^2] + [4z-4z] + 8
which is
z^3 + 8
