Clive Owen, Michael Caine, Julianne Moore

I think that definately it was money well spent to go see this movie. Now I saw a review that likened it to the Bladerunner of this generation. I don't know if I'd really compare it to that. More like 28 Days Later without the Zombies. I thought Clive Owen was good in his role as Theo, and I always enjoy Michael Caine. The characters were likable and therefore it drew me in and I felt the movie moved along fairly quickly.

I wanna see this movie too. Besides the youngest person on Earth is Argentinian, both the actor and the character...

Since I saw this movie, I have been telling everybody to see it.
The story was good, the acting was better. Clive Owen is a completely non-macho, non-action, vulnerable man with courage. Michael Caine in a crazy, but incredibly likeable role. Julianne Moore was okay, but nothing extraordinary, IMO.
In addition, the pace was perfect, speeding up and slowing down just at the right moments. Cinematography (camera, framing, etc) was amazing and one of the best I can remember. Soundtrack and sound FX were perfect as well.
I can understand if people are put off by the wobbly handcam during the streetfights, which actually at one point even reminds us that we're watching a movie, but combined with the perfectly mixed sounds of gunfire and bullet hits, it created the best feeling of being in a warzone I ever had (better than Private Ryan or Band of Brothers, which were already frighteningly good).

I don't see where they compare it to Blade Runner, but this is a great movie overall, including movies as an art and form of story telling, opposed to all the mainstream stuff that's being put out (and yet not meaning that this movie would only appeal a minority).
Go see it!

If that wasn't the directing job of the century, I don't know what was.

See this one in the theatres. It will not be the same on your DVD player.

I saw the book for this at Barnes & Noble recently--you know the book they put out after the movie comes out that's based on the book: same story, but with the movie poster as the cover?

That's what originally caught my eye, see, because Clive Owen, although he doesn't know it yet, is my boyfriend. (*drools*). Yeah. Big celebrity crush there. So his handsome mug on the book cover is what got me to pick it up. I read the description and it sounded awesome; but at the same time, a movie like this always has the potential to really suck. I'm glad to hear it's so good. Gives me motivation to see it in the theatres. These are promising reviews.

I just saw it an hour ago and I was amazed.
What I found particularly impressive about it was how realistic it felt. Partially due to the use of a handheld camera, but mostly because of the exceptionally plausible storyline, it felt almost as if it was a documentary.
The way the future was portrayed also seemed very reasonable, though I suspect the technological advancement was so subtle in order to focus the attention of the viewer on the sociological changes.
Speaking of which, isn't it ironic that in a situation such as the one in Children of Men, where the very survival of the human race is at risk, all we can do is kill each other?

It wasn't really at risk so much as it was down the toilet. It was basically as if the entire race of mankind found out it had about 100 years to live.

See, I wans't that impressed with it. It seemed like it was too worried about pushing it's message on you before it was to entertain you.
I also think some of the changes from the book were done hap-hazardly. (In the book for instance, it was the sperm that quit functioning as opposed to the movie where it was the females. Why the mysogyny?)

I had other problems with it too, though.
The acting was pretty good, but It just didn't set well with me for some reason.

It doesn't follow the novel very closely. In fact, it really only takes the name and initial premise and completely reverses other things. Seems to really bother people who've read the book, but it's not like he's rewriting Mark Twain or anything.

That's sort of the point. In a situation where the human race has no future, lives don't really mean much.

I haven't been this moved by a movie since I saw Saving Private Ryan.
I almost puked in the theater twice and felt like I had just left a warzone, mild shell shock I guess.
The imagry and camera work.... it just felt so incredably realistic.
Everyone should go see this!
