So what did you give to others for christmas, to who, and why?

Father - very hard to buy for, got him a 20 hour audio CD "The World is flat, the brief history of the 21st century". He drives his truck a lot and likes to listen to audio books on the road.

Mom - Some bamboo incense thingee (she's into smelly things) and a Pier One (because it's her favorite store) gift Card.

$10.00 Bed/Bath/Beyond gift cards and a jiggly light-up pen for each of the Nurse Manager's that i work with.

i tried to budget myself $20.00 each for the rest of the family.

Brothers&Brother-in-law - i got them a Swiss Army Credit Card. Why? because it's cool, useful, and only cost $20.00.

Sister&Sister-in-lawsBathing salts and body lotions (my failsafe standard gift, always pleases)

highschool age nephew = "God of War" game for his playstation2. he doesn't have many games and i chose a game that i would want to play whenever i come over.

jr. high neice = dog whistle and petsmart gift card (she recently got a puppy) and a hand held 20Q game that supposedly can read your mind after you answer the 20 questions it poses to you..

grade school/toddler nephews = a bunch of novelty toys like; flurp (a silly putty that makes fart noises, a egg that hatches a fake lizard after you stick it in water for 24 hours, slingshot gliders, spiderman digital watches, floam (like silly putty with foam balls in it, can use it to decorate or make scultures), gravity defying frisbies (you fill it with some helium),bunch of cheap stuff

grade school neices = how to paint (by numbers) deluxe kits

my older brother's family (who lives in town and i visit frequently) a deluxe version of the cheapass game called "Kill Doctor Lucky" which is fun as hell to play. they try to have have game nights once a week and every now and then i'll show up. wanted them to have a decent game to play whenever i'm there :p

16 year old niece - When she graduated from high school in May, she got a vintage 1986 Cadillac Seville so for Christmas, we tricked it out a bit for her (satellite navigation, upgraded stereo, new rims, etc). She also got 1 year of WoW (the main game she plays), BlackBerry Pearl, and a Sleep Number bed (for her room here).

Niece's best friend - T-Mobile Sidekick 3 (Diane Von Furstenberg edition) with a year of service

Mother & best friend's mother - Alaska cruise & cruisetour in May

Nephew - a new PC (3.8 gig Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme, 3 gigs of RAM, dual GeForce 8800s in SLi, etc). He decided to wait til Vista comes out to actually put it to use.

Best friend - a bunch of outfits I caught her peepin' at during Fashion Week, Sony Cybershot digicamera, gift cards to Bed Bath & Beyond and Frédéric Fekkai.

My father - AutoZone gift card, Men's Wearhouse gift card (I inherited my suit fetish from him :(), SYMS gift card, and some Nicole Miller ties

My assistant/COO & husband - A full owner's membership in Marriott's Vacation Club/Timeshare program with 8 weeks of available time.

Nephew & his father - joint gift of a Bowflex Extreme

Best friend's father - TomTom One satellite navigation thing

I also pledged a 2-week "girls night out" type of affair to the Golden Door spa Elysia (Australia) for my mother, best friend & her mother, niece & her mother, and one of my aunts. That one brought the house down. So much so that no one asked what the guys would be up to during that two weeks (and we're still trying to figure out where we're going :P).

Company employees got the standard 10% of their base salary as a Christmas gift. Everyone else got gift cards to the stores I know they frequent (or would like to be able to frequent).

One of the few great things left about being in the travel business is the ability to give experiences as gifts, without breaking the bank.

I love giving more than receiving. Last year, seeing my nephew's face almost literally light up when he saw his 360 was priceless. This year, my niece's best friend didn't even expect to get anything. She just came over to hang out. Imagine her surprise!

Which reminds me...

Little hellbeast of a half-sister: Didn't get her shit, but only because it's impossible to find coal in St. Louis. (Believe me, I looked.) Only real coal will do; None of that fake, processed charcoal crap could ever hope to meet Kris Kringle's standards.

Hell, our mother lives with her, Mom bought her a bunch of clothes, Laura peeked and saw that she had clothes coming and Laura demanded that Mom let her open her gifts two weeks early, just so Laura would have something to wear when she went clubbing. Laura's too lazy to do laundry, of course. Naturally, Laura threw an abusive, cussy fit when Mom said no.

Ungrateful, spoiled little bitch. She shouldn't have gotten a blasted thing for Xmas, but people in this family just have to be so soft and forgiving. No wonder she never learns any life lessons. I can't stand the idea of sharing half of my genetic code with that fat little tramp. :grr:

I think the 2 best givings were to my Dad and my Sister

Dad: The Beatles Love album because he's a huge beatles fan(I love the music as well, but not their 'Greatest Band Ever' aura) and it owns because so far everyone loves it and it may be some of the greatest mixing of their music I've heard.

Sister: I got her Amped 3 because it was the first game she actually liked on my 360 but never got it, and I tricked into thinking she wasn't and she's loved it(plus she let me finish the story and stuff since she likes goofing around, and I got myself like 300+ achievement points today by doing so)

Nice gifts, Iggy!

I cooked a 5-course French meal for my in-laws. The menu was French; with Provencal overtones (go figure. :P)

Entree: charcuterie, including pate de campagne, saucisson aux herbes, cornichons, and olives nicoises. I also served an artichoke-caper tapenade, because my mother-in-law adores artichokes.

Plat principal: poulet provencal (chicken cooked in wine, tomatoes, olives, and herbes de provence), and steamed asparagus dressed with olive oil and fleur de sel from the Camargue. Of course, there was also the ubiquitous baguette (can't have a French meal without it!)

Green salad with homemade vinaigrette

Plateau de fromages: fresh chevre, an aged chevre treated with ash, a bleu made from sheep's milk, and an idiazabal (not French, but Spanish; I just really love the stuff).

Dessert: fresh pear compote

I poured a 2003 Saint-Damien Corbieres, which was nice.

Cooking is one of my favorite gifts to give, and I really had fun with this one.

:)

Al, you sure know how to make someone hungry.

I did buy an extra gift, supposedly for my sister. It was only $6, so I grabbed it. Its a mini sculpture of Oz (Seth Green) from Buffy. Haven't given it to her yet, I wasn't sure if she would like it.
