Thursday Night Tussle

evening folks, I just decided to start up a new thread for the Thursday Night Tussle events i'm running on the Justice server.

They happen every thursday night at roughly 9:30 pm EST on the justice server.

This is the way it works, Every thrusday we have a series of melee's in the arena, each week is a different theme of character, for instance, this thursdays theme was Robot Week, play whatever AT, or powerset you want, as long as the character was a robot.

The theme for next week is Farm related heroes. Farmers, Livestock, veggies and such.

Make your hero, and place them in the outbreak scenario. On thursday night, we log them all on get into teams, go through outbreak, train with back alley brawler, and head straight to the arena.

(this way everyone is on an even footing, level 2, and no other enhancements aside from the one given out in outbreak.

If we can get enough interest, we may start including a design contest for character design as well, (like who fits the theme the best)

If you're interested, just post here. there is a Thursday Tussle global channel as well, plus, we've even got a supergroup and villain group on justice.

well, since it was the first night, we didn't stick to plan a lot.

the next one will be much more organized, (hopefully we'll have some idea as to how many folks want to do this as well as what their characters names will be.

I think the way we'll do this is have everyone go through outbreak on their own, but stop before telling coyote which trainer (log out before completing outbreak)
that way we can make sure everyone is lvl 2 with only the outbreak enhancement.

Right now as far as the polling goes, i'm looking at posting individual screenshots, but not saying what forum member goes with what costume that way it would be a lot more based off of design, and not how much you like someone. I of course will be exempt from winning.

You'll notice that there isn't a pvp prize being handed out, and at this time there will not be one. (lest peple start taking the pvp aspect WAY to seriously)

also starting next week, we will have a prize for background as well, (after all, the whole idea behind Thursday nght tussle, aside from fun, is to get folks to try out new powersets, and new concepts, so come give it a try, who knows, you may decide to keep the character after the match is over!!!)

Sorry I couldn't make it. As you'll see if you check the Weather Channel, we just had a thunder/lightning/hailstorm rip through St. Louis, and I spent two hours eating dinner parked under the shelter at a Sonic fast food place, for fear that the hail would ruin my car. And after waiting for the heavy rain and the hail to abate, I still had to head a half-hour out to Fenton to pick up my paycheck and fix a kitchen shelf. Meanwhile, Rachel's off at her mother's house, with her car parked in a nice garage and sitting inside watching TV, and not getting a drop on her.... :grr:

I was planning on making a character for this weeks tussle. Miss Blitzkrieg. She was part of a German super soldier program in the early '40s but by the time she was ready for combat the stuff had hit the fan. My reason for posting this is to find out if this character would be too offensive for folks. I can understand how evil characters from myth or fiction would be no problem, however this character has a large portion of her backstory rooted in fact. Let me know if I should come up with another idea.

For once, I actually won an Arena match. Amazing.

Lessons learned from the schoolyard:
1 Controller + 1 Tanker = Controller wins. Controllers can play the Keep-Away game like nobody else can, let me tell you....
1 Controller + 2 Tankers = Controller loses. Inevitably, both Tankers will go for the super-squishy kill and team up on the Controller. Tying up one Tanker is easy; Tying up two or more Tankers is almost suicide. Gale only served to delay the inevitable, even when I got lucky and puffed both Little-Billy and Hajin Ito away.

I was going to suggest heroes from other computer games...whether the Space Marine from Doom, Bob Newbie from The Sims, the Predator or Corporal Henderson from Aliens Versus Predator, Alice from American McGee's Alice, Christof Romuald from Vampire: The Masquerade--Redemption, Abraham Lincoln from Sid Meier's Civilization games...go crazy.

Nice pics everyone. I had a lot of fun, but need to work on my darkety dark character design. I was thinking that it would be easier if we were part of a super group, maybe Thursday Night Tussle. I don't have anyone lvl 10 or higher on Justice, but maybe someone could make the SG and invite one of us. After that we could start the TNT with inviting to SG. Just an idea. And I like the insect idea too.

Okay, I only have two characters on Justice (four, actually, now that Wolf Pup and Pseudo-Dragon are left over from last week's rumble) but they are all level 1. However, I snuck Sandy into the Arena and observed the match. (Maybe discreetly, maybe not...) I took LOTS of screenshots, I'll post as many of them as I can when I get a chance.

And wouldn't you know it, this morning as I woke up, FINALLY a concept for a Lord Darkitty Dark Dark hit me...

Unfortunately, the insect theme doesn't get me, either. However, I have at least THREE ideas for the "video game character" concept, so if that's still planned, I'll be in it.

(I guess my problem is, when I am inspired, I can't stick with just one, and when I'm not, my mind goes blank. You'll remember I couldn't decide between Wolf Pup and Psuedo-Dragon, either... :D)

Thank you. I'm just sad that I couldn't pull off Gretchen Grundler's short, puffy Snow White sleeves. She was still fun to play with, though. Has anyone here actually had success with a high-level Mind/Weather Controller? It seems like a good offense-focused combination.... :think:

ok, for those of you who were not there last night.. shame on you ! j/k!

there are a few changes going into effect for thursday night tussle (especially after last night's singeles match up)

#1. Instead of elimination, we're going with 10 minute time limits for the solo matches (Cap'n Ninja and Psirate ended up with the match all to themselves for about 15 minutes, so no more 5 lives and done)

#2 As Kurai Inago mentioned, He and D'arkaine are co-hosts (to help come up with theme ideas and run things when i'm not there)

#3 we have some thoughts about nerfing mind controllers from the Tussle (that whole hold/levitate thing is way outta control at lvl 2, and some folks may be getting upset about it.. so i'm putting it to a vote, view the poll i'll be creating in this part of the forums)

Well, I took a handful of screenshots myself, so I will try to post them. Of course, I'm not in any of them, as I was in camera mode at the time. :D (The last time I took screenshots, I was lurking, so I was able to show everyone)

I would have volunteered to set up the SG, but my only "real" characters on Justice are only level 1. I do think it's a good idea, though. (The only permanent members, though, would need to be representatives of the hosts)

I think the prizes should only be for costume design/concept, let the victory be its own prize. :D For one thing, I don't want to see characters that have Powers totally out of character for their concept. If we make winning and losing an issue, we'll have people creating characters just to win.

And along the same lines, while I don't have an issue with Mind Controllers (I actually thought Psirate was one of the more clever concepts) if it becomes a problem with everyone creating their character of the week as a Mind Controller, then we obviously will have to do something about it. It might be a good idea to put a stop to that before it can start. I'll go with whatever everyone else decides.

And finally, you can usually tell who was who if you were listening in while the Tussle was going on. :D You can probably tell who D'ark was from the screenshots. But it might be a good idea to hold the poll first, and then once the winner is announced list who everyone was.

Sorry... ;) Last week it was my beginner's luck bonus, and this week it's because i happened to be the contoller. Which i picked because of the theme i wanted.

been a slight changes in plans my computer right now is non-internet capable. The BF decided to put in a new internet card, and because my dad wrote the key code on the case of my windows xp disk it was miswriten, so me and the BF discussed it and we decided I'm going to downgrade to the xp home version, that way my computer and his computer won't have any network conflicts but that will mean I won't be on til either late tonight or later this weekend. So might not have a lvl 10 on Justice this weekend will see.

Well, while Psirate pretty much dominated the one on one match, the team match was a lot more even. So it's really not an overall problem, just for the solo play. And as you said, a lot of it was the fact that no one was ganging up on you. In fact, I'm pretty sure a couple of times the other person chose the easier target (me) and wailed on me while I was held. :D

Maybe we should just allow Mind Controllers, with the understanding that anyone who understands their threat will attack them on sight, in preference to any other targets. :D

...as I already surmised with GretchenGrundle [a Mind/Weather Controller] two weeks ago. One enemy? Gretchen aced them. Two or more? Gretchen went down horribly.

Of course, people usually like to team up on me anyway. I don't know why. Maybe I just habitually churn out Heroes who are too noticeably awesome or something. :rolleyes:

Only thing is, I'm having some problem with the source material versus the Hero generator.

Complaints about the generator thus far:
1) No such thing as suspenders.
2) The gem in the middle of the chest isn't available with the open-collared shirt or jacket. The solid green shield emblem makes a passable Gel'Ziabar Stone, but it isn't centered like it should be.
3) The shirt/jacket can't be tucked into the pants, thus meaning that the brown Tactical belt (which would work for the character) isn't available.
4) There's only one Medium hair, and it isn't flowing and wavy hair (like Galloway's hair is)

Other than that, I've compensated well enough for the Undying protagonist's powers well enough.

The assault rifle is the closest thing to Galloway's shotgun...the perfect thing for dealing with those pesky Howlers...

...and Energy Melee can handle the repulsing powers of the Gel'Ziabar stone well enough, even if the power should be green instead of red.

Full Throttle, I think that was the first computer game I ever played, brsides solitare and mine sweeper. It was running at a friends house and they kinda showed me how to play a level but mostly I watched

Hey, you're right! :)

The pattern on the baggy shirt itself might make passable suspenders, which allowed me to use the Gem chest emblem to make a mock-up of Galloway's trademark Gel'Ziabar stone. The Baggy top also gave me access to the Tactical 1 belt, which serves as his belt o' many pouches quite nicely. I don't care much for the turtleneck, but even the Hero Generator isn't perfect.

All I remember was going up the spiral stairs and nothing, then going back down the spiral stairs and nothing, then going up the spiral stairs again and CRASH! this pack of Howlers dropped down through the skylight and chased me up the stairs, and the scratching, pounding shock music started going and the shotgun just wasn't beating them back fast enough and.... :o

IIRC, it's the left Ctrl button which toggles a weapon's alt-fire. In the case of the shotgun, it switches between firing one barrel at a time and firing both barrels. In the case of the Scythe, the alt-fire is "berserker mode", where you continually lose Mana but steal the Health from any enemy you slash.

Between Patrick Galloway and the Horned Reaper from Dungeon Keeper, tonight's match got me thinking: Wouldn't it be nice if City of Heroes got a Scythe power set? Just a thought. :)

I kind of thought that's what made tonight's match fun. It was like this huge shoot-out at the O.K. Corral, and I guess the reason I did as well as I did was because I kind of was thinking in FPS mode. Circle around, try not to get shot, shoot them a few times, rush in with an ugly melee attack, rush back out (or don't, if Power Thrust knocked them away), circle around, shoot again, listen to Rachel leaning over my shoulder and telling me to rush in for another Power Thrust even though Power Thrust hasn't recharged yet.... :D

And remember, everyone: Don't neglect to use your Brawl in close quarters, especially at SL2. That little extra damage might just spell the difference between your opponent going down and your opponent surviving to deliver a counterattack....

I enjoyed it but wow there was a lot of web grenades and guns. It was fun lots of kill stealing too. sit back watch two others go at it one is almost dead go in kill him then the other who is weak.

The pattern on the baggy shirt itself might make passable suspenders, which allowed me to use the Gem chest emblem to make a mock-up of Galloway's trademark Gel'Ziabar stone. The Baggy top also gave me access to the Tactical 1 belt, which serves as his belt o' many pouches quite nicely. I don't care much for the turtleneck, but even the Hero Generator isn't perfect.

There's also the Storyteller series, and Labyrinth, although most of the Muppets there were not quite as memorable. (The Storyteller's dog, maybe, but he would be hard to capture as a CoH hero)

The Muppets, though, and not the human characters. As with Yoda, I think showing up as David Bowie would be a bit much. :D Same with the Turtles, since although I think Hensen's group created the animatics for the movie, they were working from someone else's design.

Being a huge farscape fan...I did think about Rygel or Pilot...but there's still this picture in my head of the sesame street cast going head to head with the cast of the Muppet Show...poor Kermit doesn't know what to do...Besides, who's to say we won't have a Farscape night? ;) What AT would Zhaan be anyway?

Also, as I mentioned before we all logged out, I created one more character for the Video Game tussle. I'd already seen KOS-MOS in CoH before, someone created her, and I even grabbed a snapshot of it. (I'd post it, but I didn't create her. It was a really great version, though)

Anyway, I decided to try my hand at Shion (http://www.phan.org/coh/pics/shion2.JPG). Although I couldn't quite get her hair right, I like the way her outfit turned out. It's the small vest with the motorcycle jacket sleeves, of all things. I finally decided not to play her, however, since I'd already created Mint and Rue, and in fact I never even started her on Outbreak.

Ladies and Gentlemen... As of this moment, I'm working With The Cape to get TNT some sceduled advertisement time. Here's the Deal. Septa mentioned that we might be interested in making our own commercial, (i.e. someone with some voice talent making an MP3 commercial... now we have really 2 ways of doing this. the first way is to "hire" and outside source to do this for us (another forum member) but the one i feel much more comfortable with is... Starting up a contest.

The contest will be voted on by our own TNT members during one of the events (that way we get the actual people participating in TNT's input instead of every joe on the street)

What we need to do is setup the actual specifications for the contest. post here with suggestions.

There aren't many distinct images of Nyarlathotep on the internet, so I went with the more common glowing-eyes-and-glowing-open-mouth one and ran with it. I couldn't get the glowing mouth, but after incorporating the robe which Nyarlathotep's silhouette wears in Cults Across America, well...you can see the results, eh?

Well, I don't know about the crazed lunatic idea, but technically speaking, an avatar of a god is the god itself, albeit in a lesser form. By the standards of the Hindu religion (which brought us the concept of the avatar in the first place), Jesus would be an avatar of Jehovah. And you won't find a Christian alive who will claim that Jesus wasn't God made flesh. :cool:

As you can see, Nyarlathotep won the battle but lost the war. Though he had sixteen conquests beneath his infernal belt, it was Sigyn who ultimately stripped the Crawling Chaos of his maddening unholy power.

And why was Angry Shiva shot down so horribly? Because it was four gods on four one-deity teams and we all knew how horribly dangerous he would be with his Deceive power. So we all teamed up and ganked him good. Poor bastard. :lol:
