View Full Version : Okay, NOW it's time to merge.

Evenin' to all of you.
It seems we haven't been as active lately; In fact, inactivity is so rife that, thanks to a little something called 'rent', our base of operations will be pretty much wiped out within the next month. We've been fighting the good fight for quite some time, but I think it's time for us to move somewhere where we can make more of a difference. Somewhere bigger.
We have a fair-sized band of heroes going here, perhaps enough to gain a degree of leverage and bargain for an extra perk or two from the folks we decide to close ranks with. Perhaps we can have a room set aside to be our dojo or training room, perhaps we can have our stringently earned ranks preserved. Perhaps we'll get a new toaster oven. We won't be able to estimate how much we can deal until we actually belly up to the table. We'll be offering Urban Bushido's salvage and resources to our friends in order to grease the axles on this merger, of course.
The question is which bigger supergroup we should throw in with. Take the Stick-It pad that I'm passing around, grab your #2 pencils and vote. Whichever team gets the most votes is the team we approach first. I know most of the leaders personally; In fact, I know that both the Silent World Order and the United Sanction Society are going through their own crises right now. It could be that the inclusion of a fresh team of ninjas, superspies and Kung Fu fighters is just the right shot in the arm for them. If anyone can ferret out what's wrong with them, we can.
Plus, I'm kind of hoping to help get the Z Games move along, even though Super Solar handed my ass to me and even though that evil psychic voodoo bitch and her misguided buddy Nova Stonebear are threatening to take the civilized world down a few pegs if they somehow pull a gold medal out of their collective ass. What can I say? I like a good tournament. But if you feel like voting for, say, the Defenders of Paragon, go for it.
And look at it this way: Martial arts uniforms won't be mandatory for our higher-ups anymore. You can still wear them if you want; I probably will too. But you don't have to if you don't want to.
So go on and vote. It'll be for the good of our humble band of vigilantes in the long run.

Meh, wouldn't this just be who gets the members to the polls?
I'd say the UB and the Cents for a variety of reasons:
We ourselves are small
Our mirror group ate (COP) up the Urban Ninjitsu (back in the day)
We're trying to rake up a bigger group at the moment
We could find a way of adding you into the Ouroboros plot if you want (would be a great vessel, we already are explaining our COP new guys entering the Cents via the Ouroboros plot line)
We won't forget your origins as the UB, you won't just become one of the herd, unless you want to
As for rooms, I do think that's Poison's department, but we do have an extra room slot available.

Actually, Gaia is no longer affiliated officially with The Icons, but she's still our green space alien chick.
The Icons would be honored to have a group of martial artists and eastern based and inspired heroes. It could be a transition from the 60's (Spandex and four colors) to the 70's (Psychadelics, Kung Fu, and Darker tones). We'd be more than happy to have the Urban Bushido merge with The Icons.

Well, the PR has been done, so all I'm left with to say is that you are all more than welcome to the Cents. Being something like the X-Men (where as the DoP are like the Justice League) we've always had a great mix of origins and sub-groups, so the UB would fit in without a problem. And we've been allies forever. ;)

Ug, I loved your multiple little SG merge idea. Shame people would rather hang onto their tiny failed SG then to pull together for a good average sized team.
We can all play together at Gurus, but share a team? Silly nonsense!

I should be pushing the Paragonian Knights but I think you would all fit in a SG that is made up of primarily people from CoHGuru like the Centaurians or United Sanction Society. Not saying that any and all of you would not be welcomed with open arms into the PK :)

Due to recent circumstances, I don't believe we will be joining the Centurions. The Defenders of Paragon is next in line, but then we do have until the end of the month before we dissolve UB and switch over. Our present roster:

http://coh.tritonius.com/UBRoster2.jpg
It's safe to say that the people with 100+ days may not be making the conversion. I doubt they'll even notice what's going on. But just in case, I'll be switching the Message of the Day accordingly.
Also, I cleaned out most of our Salvage. Who wants to go back and pick up the whopping 3 Titanium left over? I could only carry 20 of them....

Hey Red !!!
Surprised you didn't mention another SG, you are a member of as am I. ;)
On the poll, I would have to go with SWO or maybe between the Underground and your group, it would work.
Come on guys give the Icons some props that little team is hanging in there. And their members are always looking to team. Plasma Wisp is doing a great job holding it together too :).
The Centurions are a good team. Just had a lull is all. I had Celestian Starfall recruited into them and we're getting set to do an RP storyline which should be exciting to read.
PK is huge. But when the chips are down they rally around like a family both in game and outside of it. If it were not for them I would not be in-game at the moment.
USS is no longer headed by Captain Omniburner. Changes are afoot
SWO is plotting something. . .;)
OF course Codex Prime could always use a shot in the arm. Especially if you like to RP how much you hate commercialism and are being commercialized. Also good for comic relief and we all hate our boss along with the actual company. So there you go :D

Okay, so I'm going to add in my two cents.
I really like this group, and the idea behind it, so I would have to say that, if it's an option, don't merge, and stay as Urban Bushido. It's too cool a concept to ditch.
Now, for me personally, I've noticed a trend in my playing. Lately, I team up a whole TON with the Paragonian Knights. Also, I have never once teamed up with anyone from the UB (mostly due to my play times). So, I've decided that Masked-Revenger will quit the UB and join the Knights.
Now, don't take this the wrong way, I'm not angry at anyone or anything. I just think that as often as I team with the Knights, it would just be easier for me to find teams with them if I were a member.

Its not ditching the concept. I'm sure Wids planned on still roleplaying the team is still together. I'm guessing this is more like a very close alliance. The group is still there. The only thing different would be the SG name above your character's name, which, IC wise, isn't there.

I'm still wondering if Kurai's right about the SG being in a "winter" phase which can eventually pass. On the other hand, I used to think that an all-melee SG would attract more people because of the theme or the "exclusive" feel, but I'm starting to wonder if it's just the opposite, that limiting the eligible ATs might instead make us look undesirable. Thoughts?

Truth be told, that's what I was thinking too. Between that and Widdy's rapport with SK, that's why I voted for the SWO. But, in the interest of doing this democratically, I had to include the gigantic Guru-related Supergroups as well.
It would be nice if rent weren't an issue at all; Just let us collect the Prestige we've earned and use it--all of it--to develop our bases as we see fit. It's not money; It's a measure of prowess and reputation. Money can be taxed. Prowess and reputation cannot. So how does Cryptic get away with this?
Poison
12-16-2006, 06:19 PM
Just to clarify, the Centurions are not packing members left and right. We don't have alt SGs. We have the basic plot in our base, have to fight for every bit of control and prestige in our base. So we're surely not gigantic. We're not the DoP or PK, we've only been around for a long while.

DoP has merged a smaller group into it before (League of Valor). We have experience at these things. The problem with merging two small inactive groups together is that activity/rent problems re-emerge later on down the line. It's notreally a long term fix.
The Widowed
12-17-2006, 07:02 PM
Xanatos brings up a good point: It's obvious that our own problem with making the rent is because we have a fair-sized base and not enough activity to pay for it. Public roleplaying and the tournaments may have attracted a few more people to UB in the past, but a good number of these have turned out to be flashes in the pan who play actively for a short time before fading into obscurity.
I suppose we could do our new benefactors justice by handing over our present roster, just so they would have the discretion of not inviting anybody from UB who's over X many days inactive.

Aye, we're not packing members left and right, we're definately not dead, and if anything we're getting back into the swing of things (IMHO). We just don't fit as a small dead SG nor as a big Goliath SG.
As for the theme and restrictions, it's the main reason why I like the UB. Don't change that ever if possible. Now, if you really need to, you can try by getting a few more people to make alts and attract them by organizing more events and monthly get togethers. That's how I started COP, which was never blind recruiting FYI. I attracted members only after some form of regularity occurred among a bunch of people's then alts, and would try to get members online and play with each other. Even now, with our glory days slightly in the mirror but not gone, I was able to rack up 7 COPers on at the same time on different chars to run Snaptooth's. Not everyone was on a COP/Cents char, but we all at least formed a sense of compactness.
In essence, what I'm trying to say is, make more monthly events, try to convince a few more to give it a try, add regularity, and you have some form of SG. Look at your other baby, MiW. It succeeds because you have fun events with a dash of regularity. It's a testament of your leadership capabilities, Widdy (and Cryo's too).
