As some of you might ahve heard, some guys from Blizzard, who were responsible for Doablo and Diablo II, broke off and formed Flagship Studios.

These guys are currently developing "Hellgate: London", a Diablo-like steampunk first-person-RPG. You run around in frist person style and use magic flamethrowers, rune-encrusted rockets or holy bullets to destroy and banish demons.

Gamespy has tested a very early version of this game, and write about their experiences. The screenshots and especially the story sound awefull cool.

Check out The Test (http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/hellgate-london/613487p1.html), The Story (http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/hellgate-london/613489p1.html) and The Screens (http://media.pc.gamespy.com/media/737/737992/imgs_1.html)

A small snippet from the story:
London Bridge is falling down, and it's not alone. The Thames River is a strip of mud choked with debris, Parliament is a wreck, and Big Ben looms alone over a shattered city. Fires burn perpetually amongst the rubble and the sky above is a pale green soup. The Hellgate has opened, and only a handful of humans survive in the demon-infested aftermath.

Fortunately, they have big guns. Lots of 'em.

Ditto. That definitely looks sweet. A good customizable FPS with random maps and RPG elements? Wow.

Yeah, this game sounds like the game I would assume Diablo 3(D) would hopefully be. After Diablo II I thought I cool it would be to run around in random dungeoons and fight monsters first-persons style (or 3rd person, but not iso-view). The weapon customization also sounds quite nice....

The absolute hit would be if there would be a level designer tool so that communities could create thier cities. I would immideately start work on "Hellgate: Hamburg", where you would have to fight through the storage halls in the Speicherstadt or fight your way through the old Elbunnel. And not to mention the system of underground railway and sewers...... *gibbers insanely*

Or what about "Hellgate: Berlin" or "Hellgate: Los Angeles" (isn't some part of Los Angeles built on top of an old part of the city?)

Ditto. I really wish that more games would use the theme. Rise of Legends (http://www.bighugegames.com/rts2/index.html) is using it real thickly. I'm still waiting for a MMO.

An RPG dressed as an FPS, where your aim doesnt even matter? Sounds like an interesting experiment. I mean, even in games like Deus Ex, aim was very important.

The graphics are very console-like, which might mean they're focusing on the scale of the game, so that could be a good thing.

When i first heard about the game, i didnt know much about it and frankly didnt care much, cause it looked like Painkiller too much (and as cool as PK is, we dont need another one). But now im definitely gonna mark it on my radar.

Today I googled for Flagship studios to see if I could get some more infos on Hellgate. I stumbled about the new official site for this game and the download section.

They have a cinematic trailer (similar to the CoV one) which is absolutely cool. Sadly I was only able to dl the 30mb sized version.

Check it out here: http://www.hellgatelondon.com/downloads.html
