Hopefully someone still reads this part of the forum..

Ok, I have something really weird going on with my mouse, which I'm pretty sure is something wrong on the computer end. Since sometime yesterdat for no apparent reason, my mouse with lag out, or freeze and no longer work. I had to restart twice at one point because the mouse wouldn't move..

Thats not all though, now it's lags still.. but.. also will randomly scroll, place my mouse cursor somewhere random [usually the top or right side of the screen], and sometimes back page [ the side button does back or forward pages on IE ] for no reason at all.

I've tried unplugging and plugging the mouse back in, I even tried another mouse when it was frozen at one point but nothing happened. The keyboard still worked while the mouse wouldn't move though. I checked for virus' and spy/adware and right now I'm apparently "clean" of those.. apparently.

So.. anyone have any kind of idea what could be going on? This really isn't good because I can't play any games since my mouse will randomly scroll or just not work at all, makes games that require aim.. pretty much impossible. I thankfully survived writing this message.. any help would be great.

What type of mouse is it?

Wireless/USB/PS2?
IR/Laser/ball?

If it's wireless or Bluetooth, you could be receivieng interference from something. Or your batteries could be low.

If it's USB you could remove try it in a different USB port on your machine. (preferably on the front if it's plugged into the back)

If it's a PS2 Connected mouse, you could uninstall it then reboot and let windows re-install it. It sounds like a PS2 if your second mouse wouldn't work when you tried it. You could also turn off the computer, connect the second mouse, and turn your computer back on, that should get the second mouse working.

If it's an IR or laser mouse, try a different surface for the mouse area. If there are changing colors or it is a light color, your mouse could be getting confused by the different signals it is trying to interrpret.

If it's a ball mouse, throw it away and buy a new one.

Let me know if any of that works.

It's a PS/2 mouse, I always tried uninstalling and reinstalling and it was fine for a bit but it's starting to lock up again. It is a laser mouse, but I don't think anything would be messing with it like that. Not sure what to do now.. I would buy a new mouse but I'm not sure if thats a good idea.

Have you tried the mouse in another computer? Rebooted the system with a differenet mouse, same problem? Any issue with the KB at all?

Can't try it in another computer, haven't tried rebooting with a diffrent mouse yet though. I don't think it's actually the mouse though, would be be scrolling and clicking on it's own if it were the mouse? I thought that'd just be something with the computer.. let me go find that other mouse again.

I'm pretty sure this isn't my mouse now.. just a second ago I was checking some boards real quick and my Mouse froze, so I hit Ctrl-Alt-Del.. it showed my CPU Usage spiking at 100% then I couldn't even barely use my keyboard for anything, couldn't get to shutdown so I had to turn it off manualy. Neither my Virus scanner or Spy/Adware checker is finding anything major though.. this sucks.

First, I suggest finding a solid color mouse pad or binder or whatever to use as a mouse pad for a bit to test it.

as for your cpu usage. my first instinct is to check for spyware/virus. You've already done that so.. when you run updates for your anti-virus and/or spyware checker, do you get any errors? If you run the updates then restart the program, has the definition version changed?

I'd suggest downloading Microsoft's Windows Defender (http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx)

It's actually impressed me in the past by finding stuff spybot missed.

You could also try an online virus scan Like Trend Micro's House Call (http://housecall65.trendmicro.com/)

Sorry I cant be of more help, the only other thing I can think of is that something is trying to "share" the IRQ that your mouse is on, but thats pretty unlikely.
You might check for new drivers for your chipset and peripherals though.
