So...
I guess I present to the board on my course proposal next Wednesday night at the curriculum committee meeting. I thought it wasn't until December, but I guess it's next Wednesday. The day before parent-teacher conferences, no less.
No rest for the wicked.
I'm not nervous, except that I'm supposed to be teaching ballet that evening and have yet to find a sub. So I'm still not sure how I'm going to be in two places at once. That's got me a little stressed.
And I've had kind of a crazy week--hence the champagne for dinner the other night, as you may have read in another thread. :notme:
Anyhow, assuming I can find a sub for my ballet class, wish me luck as I go before the school board on my course proposal next week!
Thanks again to all of you who gave feedback and encouraged me. It means a lot--more than you know.
I'll let you know how things go.

Best of luck Lummy! I'm sure it'll all work out fine and you'll get nothing but rave reviews on your proposal. I'm crossing my fingers for you. :)

Well, you could discover your super powers and be in two places at once :D
Anyways, you seem to be able to hold everything together Lummy, so I have faith in you puylling it off, with your sanity, but after not getting home till it was dark out the last 2 weeks, I know how much a packed schedual can drag on you.

Lummy, you're an inspiration to us all, not only are you one of the sweetest people on the forums, but you're also such a good role model, very educated and trying to do what's best for humanity.
Two thumbs up.

Wow. Thank you very much, everyone. Fate, I really appreciate your post. Thank you for being so kind.
I did find a sub for my ballet class, so all is good. And several students offered to come to the school board meeting to show support for the class, which was very thoughtful of them. :) I'll let you all know what the verdict is.
Thank you all again for being so supportive.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you all on this. It's been a brutal week; work's been a total meat-grinder. Thanks for all the well-wishes. :) As you can tell from CL's giddy hopping up and down, I have good news!
My course proposal was passed unanimously by the board's curriculum committee! I was soooo excited! It was sort of hectic because I had to go all the way across town to teach a ballet class for my AD who was gone in California to stage a ballet, and then had to get back across town immediately afterwards to make the board meeting.
I didn't have any students come to the meeting (although several offered to come to show their support for the proposal); I said it was probably better for them to stay home because I didn't know how long the meeting would go and it was a school night. That said, one board member told me that in her six year tenure on this committee, of all the course proposals she's had presented in that time, this was the first time her constituents had ever called to ask for a yes vote on a course proposal. :) Apparently two of my students had called and one parent. *glee!*
They also told me this was the most thorough and well-researched course proposal they had ever seen, which totally made me feel awesome. It suddenly made the fact that I spent all last summer working on it worthwhile. :)
The last bit of good news (and the best bit), was that in my proposal, in the materials and textbooks section, I stated:
There is no textbook required for this course. Course materials will include teacher-designed packets, readings, and problem sets; as well as various articles in current newspapers, websites, journals, and periodicals. If the course is approved and appears to attract a significant number of students, it would be appropriate to consider purchasing a textbook for future sections.
After I presented, the Superintendent of curriculum told me that if I found a textbook I liked for the course, I should let him know, and he would purchase them out of his own budget for this coming year!
O.o
You could have knocked me over with a feather when he said that! He also said that he would give me curriculum hours over the summer to develop the course. So that's just awesome.
I am sooooo excited with all this support from administration! Now the hard part is getting enough students to sign up so they can justify the course. *crosses fingers*
Again, thanks so much to everyone who helped out with this and encouraged me. Sorry I didn't let you all know sooner, but like I said it's been a nutty week. My AD was out of town so I had to pick up a lot of slack at the ballet, and we had parent-teacher conferences this week, and I had one of my students' moms be pretty brutal to me in email all week long.
*sigh*
Anyway, I'm super excited and I hope enough students sign up!
Thanks again, everyone.
*hugs*
Funny how things work out! :chuckle:
