He served for 26 years in the Central Intelligence Agency and the National Security Council. Under President George H.W. Bush, Gates served as Director of Central Intelligence. After leaving the CIA, Gates wrote his memoirs and became president of Texas A&M University, serving on several corporate boards.

Robert M. Gates was the Central Intelligence Agency's deputy director for intelligence (DDI) from 1982 to 1986. He was confirmed as the CIA's deputy director of central intelligence (DDCI) in April of 1986 and became acting director of central intelligence in December of that same year. Owing to his senior status in the CIA, Gates was close to many figures who played significant roles in the Iran/contra affair and was in a position to have known of their activities.

Wow...I got a new and better job, Missouri got provisions for stem cell research, the Republicans lost control of Congress and Dumb-Ass Dubya did the first proper thing in his entire much-maligned career and gave that evil joker Rumsfeld the boot.

This has been a great week! And if we had elected a Green Party senator or two, it would be a perfect week. :)

Although if I know my Dems....with them in charge we will get it back much sooner.

It's funny tho. people always say they want a change in DC....but the people that have been there 20 years for the most part are stil there. And the peopel that have only been there a few tearms are the ones they vote out.
