Dear Gurus,

It is my UPMOST pleasure to announce that I am a VERY proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated. We were founded on the campus of Howard University, January 9th, 1914, and have 92 long years of history within our fraternity. We uphold the ideals of: brotherhood, scholarship, and service, and our motto is as follows: "Culture for Service, Service for Humanity." Our national website can be found here: http://www.pbs1914.org/

5 strenous, tedious, and painful weeks was put into my process; a process that was designed to tear me down, and build me back up as a stronger man: mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. My LBs (line brothers) and me crossed this day at 3:12 AM. It is an HONOR and a PRIVILEDGE of mine to be able to share this with all of you. Being in a historically African American fraternity (which, by the way, does not discriminate against race; we have people of all races in our fraternity) means a lot to me. We have persevered through the storm, and have gone down a road that only few can go down.

And this is also the reason why I haven't been so active in and off game. :P I'll be reactivating my account next week; however, my time will still be limited. We have a lot of work to do on our campus. Phi Beta Sigma is known for it's threefold national programs, and we intend to provide the upmost of activites, programs, and community service to our school and communities here at Edinboro. Wish me luck! BLU PHI!!!

Edit: And I'll get pictures up ASAP!!!

TOGA TOGA TOGA

Seriously, though - I've known my fair share of Greeks during college and in working professionally as a university campus minister. Represent your brothers and the founding fathers well, Easy-E.

I'm sure you will.

LOL!

Thanks for all the warm congrats and comments! You have no idea of how geeked I am about this. lol

And I don't think we do toga parties, and we definitely don't drink. And if we do drink, we're not permitted to wear our letters. We are at all times suppose to hold our fraternity in good light. So drinking, vulgarity, fighting, etc. is all out of the picture.

This fraternity is not only nationally known, but internationally as well. Joey Porter and Hines from the Steelers, Morgan Freeman, Blaire Underwood, George W. Carver, Huey P. Newton, and many other famous men are in our fraternity as well. There are probably well over 500,000 Sigmas in the US. I know we have a lot of members in Africa, too.

LOL! Oh we drink, but not in our letters though. I've developed a fine taste for Smirnoffs and Mad Dog. I can't handle heavy liquor. As long as it tastes like juice I'm cool.

I have pictures finally! Now I shouldn't even be posting these. We haven't even had our probate yet, and we aren't suppose to officially go public with this, but no one here goes to my school, so meh:

Good on ya, glad you enjoying it. Also glad it dosent discrimenate race. Too often its ok for a bunch of black guys to exclude all others but nobodys allowed to exclude a black guy. So glad to see that you guys arent like that. (im still waiting for WET (white entertainment television) to come out on TV) :p

On a side note: Never woulda thought a fraternity of mostly black guys would be throwing out the "Devil Horns" sign which is mostly associated with Heavy Metal.

Congrats again, hope you enjoy it

I've noticed that.

The handsigns originated somewhere in the late 50s, early 60s. Every NPHC fraternity and sorority has a handsign(s) and call(s). Aside from the actual names and colors, non-greeks and greeks can identify what organization you're in by those two things.

You can get a good feel of them on Youtube:

It's called partywalking, or strolling. A form of stepping if you will. It's a celebration of what we all went through during our process, and originated from the tribes in Africa when they circled the tribal fire in celebration of an event.

EDIT: Forgot to comment on this:

Also glad it dosent discrimenate race. Too often its ok for a bunch of black guys to exclude all others but nobodys allowed to exclude a black guy.

The Divine 9 (NPHC) were founded because African Americans weren't permitted in the white fraternities or sororities. The first organization was founded in 1906, and the last was founded in 1963. So of course you would never, ever find the two races in one another's fraternity. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that all 9 just started accepting other races during the late 80s, so it is recent, but Phi Beta Sigma is the most noticeable.
