View Full Version : Whatever happened to........?
Azrael. I really dug the ongoing title that was running a few years back. I had to stop collecting for a while due to financial concerns and when I went back the title had been cancelled. Whatever happened to Azrael? Did he just disappear, killed off in Collision of Multiple Endless Earths IV, or did the series just end unfinished. Just wondering. I thought that he was a very original character concept and had a great costume.
Hey feel free to jump on my thread with any Whatever Happened To........ that you might want to know about.

Well, that's a toughie.
Most people/readers sorta forgot about him after Bruce Wayne re-took his mantle of Batman.
He returned to being Azrael afterwards. I think he had his own series sometime afterwards. Not sure many read it. He went "wonky", as he does (hallucinations) for a bit there. Maybe battled supernatural forces? It coulda been part of his hallucinations. That's one of the main schticks for this character.
I am thinking he finally died, but they left it ambiguous. So he could be or he is not dead. Needless to say, he is not a real big part of the DC Universe at the moment.

I'm suprized they didn't bring him back in one panel of that big fight at the end of Infinite Crisis...(They even brought back the 2nd Peacemaker)

Actually...in researching (on the net) about my own question (and finding a somewhat answer) and, as happens, getting carried away by other threads, I bumped into the real answer of this...
There were THREE Peacemakers, although, the second one really doesn't seem to count; he is only mentioned as being in one or two issues of a comic before disappearing.
The first one, Christopher Smith, was protrayed as a little.."bonkers" by DC (ala Watchmen?). Seems DC protrayed his father as a Commadant for a Nazi War Camp. So he felt all this guilt and kept hearing voices of the dead. He eventually died saving Nemesis. Nemesis, another obscure hero whom I remember (and who died Pre-Crisis 1) now being teamed up with Diana Prince.
Skip Peacemaker #2, since he most likely is actually #3 and only appeared one issue anyway.
Number 3, it seems, was killed by Prometheus in Infinite Crisis #7. His name was Mitchel Black.
So, who is that "Peacemaker" riding a Harley in the pages of the new Blue Beetle?
Well, I stumbled onto the answer to this as well, given no less, by Keith Giffen himself (but take that with some salt, although I do believe the answer). This Peacemaker is apparently the FIRST Peacemaker, Christopher Smith. I guess the Crisis re-made him, as it did so many other things. Actually, you can tell he is the first by certain story elements : He acts like he knew the Dan Garret Blue Beetle as well as the Ted Kord version. So, the Peacemaker they brought back, is actually #1. :)

(By the way, my question, just in case anyone was curious was "What happened to all those heroes from Bloodlines?" Apparently, not much. A third are dead/dead. The rest haven't been touched upon in many years and are pretty much "in limbo". Only one, Hitman, made any sort of popularity. Most of the live ones can be seen, at times, in group cameos, especially in Inf. Crisis)
Well after some searching on some of the Batman websites it seems that in issue Azrael #100, Azrael brought down the Order of St. Dumas and in the end killed the "leader", was shot in the chest and fell off a enormous glacier and was not found. Bruce Wayne had a dream that Azrael appeared to him and told him that all was cool between them and not to grieve.
