Now Testing in the Training Room - 10/12/06 6PM CST
Issue 8: To Protect and Serve
Pocket D Changes
• Arena Kiosks: These Kiosks will allow Heroes and Villains to fight against each other more easily if they want to settle personal issues.
• In front of the bars are two arena officials, an "Arena Information Operator", who will provide information on how to use the kiosks; and a "Games Information Operator", who will provide detailed information on each of the game types of the arena.
• Rikti Monkey Fight Club: Due to a combination of the Family cutting in to the RMFC profits in Sharkhead, and an offer from DJ Zero to expand their enterprise, Joe Young and Cornelius have moved their "entertainment concern" on up to the Pocket D. They have set up a new "Lounge" on the hero side of the club. “It’s a lot classier than the old place”, says Joe Young.
• It’s loud in Pocket D! Local chat in Pocket D will only be heard by players within 50ft of each other now.
Powers
• Many objects in the game which were meant to be immune to Teleportation have been made so. This affects several powers in the Traps Secondary and Gadgets secondary for players.
• Various ‘Build Up’ and ‘Aim’ powers now have a new look.
• Alternate flying poses. Fly and Hover (and temporary powers that duplicate their effects) have new poses. Your character will transition into an alternate pose after flying forward for a few seconds. Also implemented a banking animation for flying forward while strafing left or right.
• Increased the base flight speed of Hover by 10%.
• Added a slight delay to the usage of Team Teleport. This should alleviate the issue of Teammates randomly being left behind after a Teleport.
• Soul Storm is now escapable. There is still a bit of delay after you escape before you can move or attack again, but it’s much less of an ‘I win’ power.
• Rikti ambushers will once again show teleportation FX.
• The Helmet enhancement (Mutation/Magic Range) was giving twice the bonus of other Range DOs. It has been reduced to match.
• Rebalanced some of the high end Longbow critters to make them less frustrating.
• Fixed some animation issues with the Jump Jet Pack power granted from the Good vs. Evil Edition.
Titles
• Players may now change their title at levels 15, 25, 35, and 45. These title changes do not stack (if you do not use the one you get at level 25 when you reach level 35, you only have the level 35 change, and lose the level 25 one). At 50, players may change their title without restriction. Talk to any trainer to change your title in this manner.
Tailor
• New costume pieces are available at the Tailor and at Character Generation:
• Male/Huge/Female
(Head – Detail 1)
Galactic Glasses
Government Glasses
Blast Goggles up
(Head – Ears)
Floppy
Bunny
Cat
Rat
Teddy
Wildcat
• Female
(Upper Body - Chest - Tops with Skin)
Angelic
Assassin
Excess
Savage
Tanker
(Lower body - Legs - Bottoms with Skin)

CITY OF HEROES
Faultline Redux
Faultline officials recently provided funding for reconstruction and work was underway in the first neighborhood, when major disaster struck. Due to strange seismic activity on the moon, tidal anomalies caused the Overbrook Dam to rupture flooding the zone. Additional crews have been called in to assess the Dam and shore up the rest of the zone, however, they are continually thwarted by the recent arrival of new villain groups to the area and one group, in particular, that no one expected: Arachnos. It appears Arachnos has been poking around supergroup base wreckage in Faultline for some time, searching for technology that will further Lord Recluse’s nefarious plans. Paragon Officials have called in small detachments of the Paragon Police Department and Freedom Corps, but are also asking heroes to come forward and protect the new city.
Features of the “new” Faultline:
• Transition from Trial Zone to a City Zone (with Overbrook Dam as a Hazard area)
• Level range has been adjusted to 15 – 25
• Missions have been added (see Jim Temblor in New Overbrook at the Memorial statue in the park as your initial contact)
• New Villain groups added: Arachnos, Freakshow, The Lost, Sky Raiders…and something lurking in the water.
• More plaques and badges
• Entrance to Pocket D
• Stores, Trainer (Mirror Spirit), and a hospital have been added to Faultline
Police Band Missions
• PPD Contacts have been added to all City Zones except for Atlas Park and Galaxy City. They will be added to a Hero’s contact list as soon as they enter a zone. These contacts will direct characters to missions aiding the PPD in fighting crime in Paragon City.
• Once you talk to a PPD Contact, your contact list will have a "Police Band Tuner" added to the top of the list. Clicking this will bring up an assortment of crimes-in-progress.
• You will fight level-appropriate Villain Groups in random maps and random mission objectives. Once you have outlevelled a zone, however, you will no longer be able to get Police Band missions in that zone.
• In addition to normal missions, the PPD will give out Safeguard Missions. You get Safeguard missions after performing three to five Police Band missions.
Safeguard Missions
• Safeguard missions allow the Hero player to enter a large outdoor mission map and defend the city from invading villains. The goal is to defeat the Villain behind the attack, preventing a bank robbery, but there are lots of other things going on, too. Safeguard missions are set up for single players and teams.
• When you enter the instance, the bank is immediately being robbed. Don’t delay in getting to the bank, or the crooks could get away with the cash, failing the mission.
• A 15 minute timer starts once the bank heist has been stopped and the mission is completed. At this point you can use the given time to secure the map, and explore and fight for additional badges and rewards. This allows the players to end the mission quickly, or hunt for additional XP and rewards if they choose.
• There are several goals and multiple side missions that can be unlocked and played once the bank robbery has been thwarted. Completing any section of goals or each side mission rewards the players with a special bonus (such as extra XP, temp powers, or unique salvage) and will add some time back to the counter. The more they complete the longer they have to try and complete more goals, so the better they do the higher their rewards.
Giant Monster Spawns Increased
• The following Giant Monster Spawns have had their frequency increased;
o Kraken - Perez Park
o Babbage - Boomtown
o Jack in Irons (non-scripted, individual) - Croatoa
o Eochai (non-scripted, individual) - Croatoa
o Adamastor - Dark Astoria
o Jurassik - Crey's Folly
Powers
• Controllers Fossilize power will now properly have ‘critical hold’ effects versus critters. This is a bug fix -- this aspect of the power already existed, but was set to always fail.
• Fixed the Short Help text on Stone Cages to properly reflect the powers usage.
Game
• Trains will now stay at station longer, there will be shorter times between trains and the doors of the trains will be clickable while the train is in the station.
CITY OF VILLAINS
Powers
• Many Darkness powers have a new look attached.
• Removed Double Stacked ‘Super Jump’ from Ninja Mastermind Pets.
• Added slightly increased running speed to all Mastermind pets.
• Updated the power description on Thermal Radiation.
• Arachnos Night Widow Bosses have had their Defense values slightly reduced.
• The Arachnos Arch Villain Nocturne has been rebalanced.
• Dominators will now build Domination faster depending on the size of the Team they are grouped with. Each member of the team (aside from the Dominator himself) increases the speed of Domination gain by approximately 16%. Note that this bonus does NOT apply to the existing bonus Assault powers gain in PvP. The maximum bonus to Domination will happen in a full 8 person group.

The new power sets (one for each archetype, as the devs had said at one time) probably will be in I9. More than likely any talk about powers in I8 was probably referring to the Veteran's Rewards. I.e., the "permanent temporary" powers.

So much for the dominator buff ^_^
Oh well, theres a good post on how the Europe servers beat the LRSF WITH dominators, NO stone brutes, NO rad corrs, NO "u must have or u cant do this! LOL" characters
They do it with dominators, stalkers, masterminds, a lot of good things
Okay..So I may have been exagerating, but my point is they don't run the power teams for the LRSF, he said mostly PuGs or with Friends, and they were successful

Feel free to link them into your post to discuss. They've really done a lot more with the zone than I expected them to, and I'm very happy with all of it!

Excellent summary of Safeguard missions..
Summary
Gah, where to start. Ok, first off, the Police Band missions are just like the Newspaper Missions. They have Rescue, Retrieve an object, Defeat a Boss, etc. After you complete 5, you are sent to the PPD officer that is actually inside the PPD building at the N end of Peregrine (This is where I was). All of the PPD officers are in the PPD buildings I think. I know the one in Steel was as well. He explains to you what the Safeguard mission is and directions on what to do. So without further ado, heh, here is the madness:
Upon entering the mission you stand around for about 5 secs and get situated. I recommend running straight for the Bank, like, NOW.
After the 5 secs, a red warning pops up on the screen and says that the Bank is being robbed. You have 5 MINUTES to stop the robbery or you fail. There is no timer, so hurry.
After you get into the bank, you are confronted with Arachnos Thieves and you have to work your way towards the vault of course.
After about 2 minutes or so, another message appears saying that the robbers are trying to get away. (This may be the moment whent he 5 minutes start, I'm not sure, but I wasn't taking chances)
The robbers come up the elevator and start going towards the door. In my case I got Fallen From Grace who was a Fire/Fire Corrupter and he had black angel wings, a toga and looked very spiffy. He had an escort of a Lt. and a Minion and cash was flying everywhere. I didn't know what to expect so I just took him down as fast as I could. He stopped to fight me and didn't try to run off mid-battle, which was nice.
Upon defeating the boss, the Mission is complete and a 15 minute timer begins to count down.
Outside the bank there were Carnies and Malta, with Malta being the major presence. (Oh yeah, it was TONS of fun on my Blaster)
The trick here is that the Carnies in this case were the Vandals and the Malta were the just regular enemies around. The thing with the Vandals is that while you're outside running around, you will see a message pop up saying that "Vandals are on the rampage, stop them!" and you need to immediately open up the map and check where the red dot is at. You need to gun it towards it and then defeat the Vandals (Carnies) that are blowing stuff up. If you succeed, you get time, if you fail, you lose time...a LOT of time. It was pretty gross. I lost 2 minutes because a stupid mailbox blew up and 3 minutes because some truck blew up that I didn't get to in time.
As you're exploring all this map and trying to find the badge, while avoiding the Malta and keeping an eye out for the Vandals, you can spot the special spawns that lead off to the side missions. These are just like the special spawns in the Mayhem Missions and you need to defeat a Boss and Minion.
The first side I got was to go and stop the Boss that I had defeated in the bank, from escaping from Prison. You enter the PPD building and can rescue some of the PPD guys to help you out. When you get to the cell area the Boss is there and I'll be damned iif he didn't drop my 3 PPD guys in one hit. I almost died to this guy because I didn't know he'd be right in my face as soon as I got off the elevator. He had some Carnies helping him out and there are some others that come to try and stop you after you defeat him and stop him from escpaing. I received 8 minutes of time for doing this.
The next Side I got was to stop a robbery in the Pawn Shop. There were some hostages in there and the trick was that there were like 10 or so Carnies (This was absolutely nuts) trying to get through the Reinforced Door in the back to get to the safes there. I barely managed to stop them before they blew it up and received 8 minutes for this as well.
NOTE: Oh, I forgot to mention, while you're doing these side missions, the Vandals are outside and you WILL get messages of them starting to rampage. So, uh, yeah, have fun trying to multi-task.
The next Side I got was to stop a bombing in the sewers. I had 6 minutes to do this, but there was no timer in my window showing it. I wasn't going to chance it so I went straight to the dot. The map itself morphed from Sewer, to Cave and then to Office building, it was huge. There are ambushes inside and the bombs are scattered everywhere. I received 6 minutes for this I think.
The next Side I got was to disarm some bombs in an Arson. I had 3 MINUTES to do this one. This is all very panicking the first time you do it. I had like 4 minutes left at this point. You enter a building and there is a Boss inside with 4 or 5 bombs, I forget. There are ambushes coming through the door while you try to stop the Boss and while you disarm the bombs. I got 3 minutes for completing this.
The final side I got was to stop an arms deal inside a warehouse. I tried, believe me I tried. I ran straight to the end of it with th 4 guys in the back talking. I had 1 minute remaining and I had pissed off about 5 Malta on my way to these guys, so I failed, I have no idea what happens in there or what the rewards are.
For completing the Peregrine Safeguard I received a special Regeneration increase that lasts for like 2 days, just like in CoV.
I never found the badge, I tried looking, but you do so much running around that it's hard to actually try and explore.
In the end, this was easily the most fun I've had in a LONG time. I was screaming at the monitor when I lost time and was running around so much I lost track of where I was twice. I did this on Heroic and didn't have too many problems. If someone were to try this on an 8 man team on Invincible though ::whistles:: that could be VERY interesting. Finally, you CANNOT destroy any of the objects in the mission. You can target them, but you can't blow them up doing so, so forget about being some gun-ho hero that destroys stuff. You REALLY don't want anything even remotely disturbed in this mission for fear of the Penalty warning.
Overall this takes a lot of coordination and practice, but I think the Devs did an excellent job with this. The time balance and craziness is at a good point from what I got to test.

I have never used Hamachi before, but I have heard amazing things, and if my plan works, it will become one of my most favorite tools.
More Infos, when I have the file and my FTP is running.

I find the Angelic costume anticlimatic. I was expecting feathers or something, and it's just another strappy. I also notice that the Floppy Ears are the same position as regular ears, so they appear to be part of the new Ears menu, but the Bunny and Teddy ears appear on top of the head, so they don't cover up the original ears. That's kind of a shame, I was thinking that the new ears were replacing the old ones, but I guess they're just placed over the ears on the model. (The model would have had to be edited to remove the ears, and I guess that was just an unneeded complication)
Note however the reference to "Backpacks". Mark my words, it's the 2yr 3mo reward. I just know it! :D

I dont know if its a roleplaying thing or not, but I HATE running everywhere. It's nice to be able to walk, either while meandering around the club, or just methodically walking through a mission (which feels kinda baddass sometimes). It's one of those simple things that was overlooked. It would be like if there was no Sit. EVERY mob in the game has a Walk, as do we (when you start to lag out, sometimes you walk), it just strikes me as rediculous that we cant have a simply keybind that allows us to walk if we want. We get Walllean but no Walk? Come on, Cryptic, wake the hell up. Heroes Never Walk?

Ok, just a quick info on the file and my plan of spreading the patch via hamachi:
Steelos has shown courage and got ahold of Hamachi. He is currently downloading the patch file with the breathtaking speed of 14,00 kb/s from my local FTP. I just await his answer if the patching process has worked (but normally should do).

How do you get on Test Server again, I'm totally blanking out on it. I went to CoH Properties, added the (space) -test and clicked ok, but all I get is the regular CoH.
Astartus
10-13-2006, 06:28 PM
You have to install the test server to another directory.
Create a new shortcut to the Updater.exe and add the -test. Click on it and an installer should open.
Point it to a new location (.../CoHtest) and start the installation.
Stop immideatly and copy all the files in your regular CoH folder to the newly created CoHtest folder.
Run the shortcut again so the updater verifies all files.
Normally that should be it....

Those are for the Veteran's Rewards - looks like the same graphics they had on the info page. So, 3 month, 6 month, 12 month, ect.
Speaking of which, have they put the Vet Rewards up on Test yet? I'm going to guess they haven't since the official boards haven't completely exploded yet, but, hey, hope springs eternal.

I'll take a whack at it. :D
You have to install the test server to another directory.
Create a new shortcut to the Updater.exe and add the -test. Click on it and an installer should open.
The best way to do that is right click on the icon you use to start COH and select "Copy". Then right click on the desktop and "Paste as Shortcut". (That may be a submenu under Paste, I don't remember)
The more proper way would be to actually open your C:\Program Files\City Of Heroes directory and find Updater.exe. Then right click, drag it to the desktop, and when it asks you what kind of copy, say "Create Shortcut".
Now right click on the Shortcut itself. Select Properties. There should be a field in there that contains the command to start the program, "C:\Program Files\City Of Heroes\Updater.exe". Add a space and "-test" after the Updater.exe part.
Point it to a new location (.../CoHtest) and start the installation.
When you click on the icon, I believe it should ask for a new location since this is the first time you've run with the -test switch. If it doesn't, try renaming your City Of Heroes directory temporarily. (Or the folders within it, since if you rename it it won't be able to find the Updater.
Stop immideatly and copy all the files in your regular CoH folder to the newly created CoHtest folder.
The moment download begins, click "Quit". Copy everything from C:\Program Files\City Of Heroes to C:\Program Files\CoHTest. (Or c:\CoHTest, wherever you put it, although Astartus's example should have put it in Program Files, although I think he meant to type "../CoHTest". (two periods, not three)
Run the shortcut again so the updater verifies all files.
Normally that should be it....
Steelo
10-13-2006, 07:42 PM
And if you ended up connecting to Astartus' FTP, simply download the "CohTest.patch" file from his server and put it in your CohTest folder that you've just created. That SHOULD patch everything up to date rather than wait for the updater to connect to the server if you are having connectivity issues.

My thoughts on I8 so far:
The new Faultline is amazing. They really did a fantastic job with designing the zone. They've even gone to some pretty extensive lengths to make it Super Speed friendly, I loved how they did that. The entrance area has some spectacular RP potential locals. I can't wait to get my next character to 15 to play there.
The police band is, of course, the one thing about this issue I wanted most, and I'm glad to say I wasn't disappointed. The graphic for using it's pretty neat. And at level 50, a nice chunk of the missions from it are against Arachnos and Council. (Of the three missions I took, one was Council, two was Arachnos. There was one Carnie mission I passed on, and then a bunch of missions that didn't list a specific group I'd be fighting so I skipped them as well) I loved that, those are two of my favorite groups and I can't wait to knock them around on Septa over on live. Didn't make it to the Safeguard missions, and I wound up crashing before I got any further than those three missions, but I'd say this issue really came together well.

Nice to see your still here Sep.
I'm suprised it took that long to DL everything and the Vet Rewards AREN'T in yet. Zoinks, it'll take forever when this hits live.
I like the new sit emotes and FINALLY have choices of dances. I need to fool around with the creator, I just re-re-re copied Jump and Usagi onto Test to see what kind of costumes I can make.
The Police Band is awesome, the animation looks really Star Wars 'ish, really cool, finally no more jumping from zone to zone to talk to a contact, just whip out the radio and get a mission. I got to try to new Safegards tonight with Jump, so any 40's lemme know when your on.
I'll check out Faultline later. I don't feel like making ANOTHER character but I'll ex to check out the new stuff they have to offer.

Yep, I was just about to post that myself. I think they're just for arcs that are in progress, though, not those you have yet to reach. There's one for regular arcs and one for "Mini" arcs, though.
It's going to be really helpful in remembering who's associated with the arc you're still working on, though.

I gotta say, I'm loving this issue. We got the new fly stuff, with the 'fly into combat' one looking beyond kick-ass on Techno Shock:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v421/iggy880/Techno%20Shock/tsfly.jpg
My only complaint is you can't choose one as the permanent one for that char, and that one seems to be the rarest, while the other two don't work so well with him, and are obviously meant more or less for wings.
But I definately like the new police scanner, and the animation for it is befond cool, especially on a tech hero:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v421/iggy880/Techno%20Shock/tsscanner.jpg
But, I also visited the monkey fight club, and tested the new sitting emotes, and while the bar was empty, my new street/club type of costume for Techno Shock looks good on a stool:

edit: Another cool thing is the naming conventions used for the Police contacts. The one in Talos is named Detective Croquette and refers you to Detective Basinn. If the reference is too obscure to place, it's Crockett & (another name for a basin is a) Tubbs. Their bios and the way they're dressed make it obvious though.

Ok, the safeguard is ridiculous. The time penalties have the same problem as the mayhem time bonuses. Namely if you destroy one item it gives a penalty before the "proper" number of items have to be destroyed for the penalty. So as soon as you stop the robbery you get loads and loads of penalties straight away.
Also the vandals keep coming no matter what you are doing and you have to drop everything to stop them. I just bounced around killing vandals while my team did the side missions. If you don't have a spines scrapper on your team expect lots of penalties.
Finally, the mission completes right at the beginning so forgot about inviting people mid mission. they aren't getting in.

Veteran rewards aren't part of Issue 8? Or they just aren't on Test at the same time. You know, they could have some aspects of the new update withheld so we don't see everything at once... they may put the rewards on test later... and, for that matter, we were supposed to get new powersets in I8 according to Positron, but we weren't going to be getting new ones for each AT all at once --they were going to space it out over the next couple issues (which sucks so much ass).

The university is cool, so is the new Faultline, and I got/found 2 of the new badges, and even saw some awsome things I'll post later when I upload some pics. One cool thing I have to say is, I was flying around, and came across a group of 50's hovering above some water, and saw 2 name tags/bars in the water that said "tentacle" and the 50's going "what was that?"

One thing I just learned that might be of use: the police band greys out for Kings Row at exactly level 16. I picked up a mission in KR with Frostshrike who was about 3/4 of a bar from 16. Did the mish and dinged at the end of it, came out and "The events here seem beneath your notice" was the message I got when I tried to take another.
I'll have to double check but I'm pretty sure the newspaper in Port Oakes greyed out at 14 or 15 (being the highest level villain I have). I had to go to Cap with Ursa Auvergne at 15 to use the newspaper.

Did anyone notice with flight we also got new flight + strafe animations? They definately look more like you'd think would have to be done in flight:

Yeah, if anyone can figure out a small chart on what levels for each zone, that'd be really helpful.

I'm pretty sure the safeguard missions are the same level ranges as the mayhems. As such...
5-10: Atlas
10-15: King's Row
15-20: Skyway
20-25: Steel Canyon
25-30: Independance Port
30-35: Talos Island
35-40: Brickstown
40-45: Founder's Falls
45-50: Peregrine
At the intermediate levels (10, 15, 20, etc.) in mayhems there seems to be a 50/50 chance of getting either mission, so it's probably the same with safeguards.

Kings row is described at 5-10 in most guides (including the manual), which is why the Police Band ending when it does there is odd. It must be +5 to zone level range.

It could be that they start policeband and safeguards once you're past level 5. After all, mayhems don't start until you're at least level 5.
Though we're going to have to be clear with this. When refering to a zone, do we mean the zone you're sent to in the safeguard, or the zone where you get the policeband missions?

There's also the point to consider that you really wouldn't have enough powers before 5 to be able to do a Safeguard mission effectively. You could try, but I doubt the results would be particularly satisfying...

It's a rough go through the Vahzilok inside the bank but, doable...at least with a Tanker. I ran my lvl 5 Invul/Axe tanker through it pretty well. The hardest part was the 5 Vahz sitting right inside the door all bunched together...I chewed up some inspirations but, stopped the bank robbery.

• Alternate flying poses. Fly and Hover (and temporary powers that duplicate their effects) have new poses. Your character will transition into an alternate pose after flying forward for a few seconds. Also implemented a banking animation for flying forward while strafing left or right.
...and this is Bloodywedd reporting kindasortalive from the Training Room. Let's see what nifty alternate flying poses these may be!

Hmmm...yep. Same old hover pose. Drat.

The "flying in reverse" pose is the same too. Rest assured that the "rocket" ascent pose (performed by mashing the spacebar) is the same as well.

Oh, okay, enough screwing around. I found a total of four new poses for flying forward, along with the two banking poses mentioned above. You fly forward in the usual "fly forward" pose for a second or two before randomly launching into one of the following (the nicknames of which were dubbed by Yours Truly and do not reflect the nicknames bestowed by anyone else for any reason whatsoever):

Easier than using the forward button is strafing for a moment, the strafing pose resets the flying pose so you can cycle by tapping strafe and never lose forward momentum.
razoras

It's not a cycle, but completely random. So it might take many tries to get the pose you want, but just tap strafe and not stop and you'll lose no forward momentum.
I was showing the wifey, and it took me 15 tries to get all 4 poses to show.

Pretty much...mind you if even one person in a SG gets this they'll have the ability to stock up their base storage with SO's as low as lev 13. The available SO's are as follow (all SO's come in the lev 13, 17 & 21 variety).
Tech - End Redux
Science - Recharge Redux
Magic - Accuracy
Mutant - Damage
Natural - Damage
The level ranges for the SO's are odd...don't really understand that one.
On a side note Posi just posted this in regards to those that tag along on the mission not getting the badge:
This badge is going to go to the Mission Helpers as well as the Mission Owner (i.e. everyone on the team).

Regarding the random flying poses:
A random flying pose that cycles everytime you hit the forward (or another movement) button is the best way to a system where you can choose your flying pose.
Just remember the old boombox, that cycled through the songs. Today you can choose your favorite song.
Or sitting. Every sit-pose looked the same and now you can sit on sttols, on tables and chairs.....

Yeah, I agree. But under the "all or nothing" stipulation they gave (i.e. either they hold the flight poses back until they figure out how to make them selectable or they release them as we see them now, in random selector mode), I'll take these.
Though I must admit it's very annoying for me since I only like one of the poses (the one Widdy named 'Power Lunge') so I usually have to cycle through the other poses (and I seem to get the "Superman" pose most of the time, which is ironic since I despise Superman). The strafe thing works even before you fully launch into a pose.

Regarding the Safeguard mission: Yeah, it was a very rough going and I had to pause and rest once and was out of heals when I met up with the supervillain...who'd already robbed the vault and was hightailing it out of the vault room when we ran into each other. Thankfully, battle axe's attacks hit like a freight train and he was just a corrupter...high damage vs low hp ftw! His Vahz buddy gave me more trouble with that @#$#@ing dart gun of his. (I also need to add that I was lvl 6, not 5..forgot I'd just leveled up before transfering him to test and I had dull pain)

Actually, the strafe pose takes you OUT of a forward pose, and you revert back to the old one for a short time before you select a new one. So strafing will change your pose. I was really hoping the new strafing animation was connected to rotating, and it was more of a "rolling" thing. Mainly because I almost never strafe, I always rotate to change my direction. (My hover/fly bind screws up if I strafe)
The strafe pose seems very similar to the "fists clenched" one, which I don't like. (I don't know if it's the one called "Power Lunge") The one with arms outstretched I call the "belly flop". :D
Okay... so is "Superman" the one fist forward one, or the one with both hands straight ahead?
[edit] Ah, okay, I see Widdy's original post, so I see the "Harrier" is the one I don't like.
It honestly looks like a pose specifically designed for wings. There is a horrible kink in the middle of the back which looks like it is incredibly painful... (But then, female model does that all the time anyway :D)

You misunderstand me.
I've played with this enough to know by the first frame of the switch animation, which flight pose will result. Therefore, if the character does not immediately thrust forth one fist with the other arm remaining behind, I know it's not the pose I'm looking for. THAT is what I meant by not having to wait until the flight pose completes to change it. So no fist = strafe and wait for another.

I grabbed a bunch of screenshots of the new Aim and Build Up animations just to see what they looked like. I was thinking of even posting some of them, although I wasn't quite sure if it would be worth the trouble. Turns out there's a Aim and Build Up Animations thread (http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=6728166&an=0&page=0#Post6728166) on the official board, though, so I was beat to the punch. Anyone who wants to see them can go look. (I tried out Rad, Electric and Fire, which are all on the first page, so I wouldn't have had anything new)
I don't have any weapon users, though, so I didn't realize there were new weapon Build Up animations. Apparently, the weapons now glow during the build up, which sounds pretty cool. :D (Actually, I do have an archer, but I just assumed there would be no difference. Oh, well)
