I don't know how I feel about this show. I like it but it's disturbing. Anyone else see it yet?
It is based off of a novel Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay.
Summary of the show from blogcritics.org
Dexter Morgan is a disarming fellow, in more than ways than one. When he's not helping to solve crimes in his capacity as a blood splatter forensics expert for the Miami PD, he's methodically chopping up bad guys who slipped through the cracks of the justice system. Anyway, that's the premise for Showtime's new series, Dexter, that premiered the other night.
Michael C. Hall (Six Feet Under) portrays the title character, loosely based on the novel Darkly Dreaming Dexter, by Jeff Lindsay. To the world at large, Dexter is an affable guy without a care in the world, the kind of guy who brings doughnuts to work for his co-workers to enjoy, who brightens everyone's morning with flippant, flirty remarks, whose every action reflects his love for the sun and sand lifestyle of Miami. Nobody would ever suspect that all his charm is a facade designed to hide the fact he is actually a sociopathic serial killer devoid of human emotion. His relationships, at least in his mind, are based solely on his need to divert attention from his sinister proclivities.
He is a freaking monster in human form... but he is killing worse monsters... But... Yeah. It's a good show, don't get me wrong, but it's creepy. But in a good way I think.

And here I thought this was going to be about Dexter's Laboratory.

Excellent show. Probably a little gruesome for most folks, but I barely even notice most of that. Good to see Julie Benz getting work.
Weeds is just as great, FYI. Not anywhere near the same sort of thing, but just as excellent at character creation and development.

I was happy to see Lauren Velez. Always had a thing for her on New York Undercover (god, I love Puerto Rican women...) and she was good in Oz (and a nice buffer for the gratuitous wang shot you have to put up with).
James Remar is cool as the dad too. He is creepy enough, but seemingly good hearted enough to pull it off.

Sounds interesting. Too bad I don't have Showtime. Maybe when it's out on DVD I'll take a look.

I think I'll miss this one. I prefer my protagonists to be, you know, the good guys.

It's all relative. He is better than the guys he kills. Besides, he gets the ones that somehow get off legally. Like the Punisher, except with 80% more vivisection.

Someone here obviously hasn't been reading Punisher lately. ;)
It sounds interesting. I'll have to look into it (seeing as we'll probably not get it here.)

Loved the first two seasons and anxiously awaiting the third. I'mcurrently listening to the audio book "Darkly Dreaming Dexter" which the show is based on. It appears that the Season 1 episodes are very faithful to the book so far... only half way through. I'm liking the book a little bit more as it gives more details behind some of his actions.

Dexter and Weeds are my two favorite shows.
I didn't like the second season much, as it seemed to just be a constant, frustrating cliffhanger. I like to see protagonists win and be successful, not constantly be under pressure.

Dexter is the stuff. I've read the first book and I'm still uhh.. over half a year into the second probably, because I read like five chapters real fast then started doing something else.

Oh he'll get Season 2, I got him Season 1 last year. Love Dexter. It's a really good show. I'll have to find the article about Dexter from Comic Con. Was a good read :)
Why did I think Darknesse just posted this today? Thank God for dates. :D

There's some rage-inducing moments, but the 2nd season is great. Kin pretty much summed it up best, lot of pressure on Morgan.

Time to raise this thread.
Just before my recent trip out west, I picked up season one of Dexter on DvD - I had caught one or two shows at a rare hotel that had Showtime and rather liked it, so I had an interest in trying out season one. Well, I loved that season so much that while on the road I picked up and watched all of season two as well.
This is an amazing show. It is so well crafted that it actually gets you rooting for a serial killer, and it renders one of TV's all time potty mouths as a completely adorable character trait. Great writing, great acting, great music, great character evolution, and, oh boy, what plot twists. Can't wait for season 3 to be on DvD

The face that Jennifer Carpenter (Deb) made when was crying on the boat in Season 1? Unbelievable. Gave me chills. I think it's her finest moment in acting. I thought I was watching a snuff film for a second. (Trying to avoid spoilers here)

As a side note I loved season 3.

DEXTER: Early Cuts
Showtime announced that it is producing a 12-part webisode animated prequel to Dexter named Early Cuts. Michael C. Hall will reprise his role as the voice of Dexter.[12] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dexter_%28TV_series%29#cite_note-11)
