I know that SWG is 4 letter word around these parts, but after Episode III, I've become an addict. So, anyone here actually play the game?

Guys, just dont... I went to JTLS a while back, its still a crappy game, and just because you liked Ep3 doesn't mean to get SWG. There are good Star Wars Games out there, Jedi knight series is quite good, but please, dont waste time nor money on SWG. its a laggy piece o' ****.

Yes, and if you really need a Star Wars rpg there's always both of the KOTOR games.

seconded... Knights of the Old Republic and KotOR2 are both excellent games... VERY much SW RPG done right... (minus the online parts)

I went back to SWG for a bit after JTL was released, and while the space game was mildly amusing for a few weeks, the ground game still sucked. Don't waste the money, buy a better SW game (I really like Republic Commando.)

My friends and I played SWG from it's launch. I played it off and on for over a year, most of my friends played until very recently.

While the idea of a star wars MMO still seems awesome to me, and I really wanted to like the game, but overall it was very poorly implemented, and every time the devs tried to "balance" something, they usually just caused more problems then they solved (COH devs take note; do not follow the same path, for it leads to the Dark Side!)

From the sound of the new combat upgrade, they've completely ruined the game, there are reports of mass cancellations. Now may not be the best time to try it.

That part of my life is over, I have absolutely no desire to go back there again, to painful.

I still maintain that it should, SHOULD have been the best MMO ever made. DAMN YOU SONY!!! :(

Of my friends that still play SWG, they say they love the combat upgrade. I logged in recently to check it out, but I didn't really explore it too much. I just kept thinking, "This isn't City of Heroes."

Now space combat is a little cooler. If you liked any of the X-Wing games, you'll probably like JTL. It's a little clunkier but the graphics are way better (obviously). I didn't become enamored with it though because you have to be a Master Pilot to fly a B-Wing (my favorite SW ship), and I didn't feel like putting in the time.

Went back to it a few weeks ago and am loving it. What they did with the new expansion is awesome. More quest type stuff. With SWG you either love it or ya hate it, but most hate it. Maybe Im just a "Ub3r STarW4rz SPaceG33k" tho.

Did you have a blaster that could shoot through a jedi academy?

I too went back for JTL, and the space expansion part is great, I loved flying around, hyperspace, I was even a veteran after being back a week and got one of those fancy veteran ships.

I was looking for a small break from COH's only content of blast blast, stab stab, 'arrest' 'arrest'. And SWG has it in spades with tons of crafting content, vehicles, the aforementioned space expansion, bunches of stuff.

BUT! and this is a very big one. Their game engine sucks. It's the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked. In space, no problem flying around, out in the open wastelands, no problem cruisin' along in my fancy speederbike thingy. But anytime I land on a planet and step out of the spaceport, I can count on getting hit with a lag stick so big my head would spin.

I cranked all my graphics settings to nothing and it still happened. And this would be in totally empty towns. How is it possible I am 5 feet from the entrance no problem, but then turn, and now the game engine decides, oh, I need to render everything that just magically appeared around the corner. Shouldn't it be rendering BEFORE I actually see it?

I tried to get past that one major issue, and couldn't, so I cancelled, and am not going back until SWG2, by Turbine.

what? Eventually Turbine will just make all MMOs, deal with it.

Jedi Academy was great, and so was the Jedi Knight series, and X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter, can't forget the Rogue Squadron series, oooh, and of course the KOTOR,Republic Commando, and all other recents. Yes I do love Star Wars games, I even havethe pit droid puzzel game, and the one where you had to build the Gungan city by affecting the landscape.

I'm pretty keen on Jedi Academy and I'd reccomend you all try it out. There's a mod called "Forcemod" that allows for character classes in multiplayer (bounty hunters, wookies, jedi, sith, etc) and there's even a roleplaying scene.

I'm not one for twitch games - but jedi Academy is awesome! It's the only thing that can divert gaming time away from CoH for me. The lightsaber battles are dynamic - and it's A LOT less laggy then SWG.

Xil Keeda on the Gorath server. Thusfar I'm digging SWG, but that could just be because I've only been playing it for a week.
