Just got the first Top Cow issue today.
It was fairly good. I always like Waid's writing. The power dampeners are a neat plot device, so it should lead to some interesting stories until they get that fixed up.
Glad to see those crazy surviving heroes in action here at least, seeing as they never do anything else. I wonder what this storyline will mean for the game, if anything.

I'm glad they are covering these heroes now. I was expecting that before and was disappointed. So this is a welcome change.

Agreed.
They could at least give the trianers one or two basic power animations and have them act like the police drones! Somethings just not right when you get killed (err, defeated) by an ambush or train right in front of one trainers!!

Great comic... well, a heck of a lot better than the origional, at least. As with anything that kicks off a plot arc, the first issue was more "expository stuff happens" than anything, but hopefully that's all taken care of.
From a writing standpoint, though, it's a shame they did'nt show us the Freedom Phalanx working together more effectively before all this happened. Cause, outside of a few trailers and such, this is the first I've seen them acting as a team, and the comic does'nt paint a very good picture. With good reason... they just went through hell. But still.

Actually, that's an EXTREMELY good idea. There have been many times I've been attacked while deciding on what Power to take or slot. I suspect people train MOBs on those spots, too, just for that reason.

The problem with having the trainers fight, is not all of them have range attacks.
While it's easy, for say, Positron to just blast guys near him, others like Ms. Liberty, don't have range attacks (being a scrapper). Which would mean they would have to MOVE to attack, and that would disrupt those trying to train.
(A solution, though, would be to have a freedom corp hero around some of them, which would do a similar job.)
(Also, some heros are by another hero. So, while Valkyrie has only melee attacks, Positron can help out.)

I hope that seeing the surviving 8 in action will change my opinion about them. But, until I do see such a thing, I still hope they die.

Another good thing about the "Trainers attack bad guys" idea would be that the much-neglected Blue Steel might finally get a little more press time after a few people see him kick ass. I never understood if he would attack by bashing with his shield or drawing a firearm of some kind.
I hope that seeing the surviving 8 in action will change my opinion about them. But, until I do see such a thing, I still hope they die.
Why? I see nothing wrong with CoH's flagship heroes. They're pretty, they train folks, they have neat backstories...they just don't hit or blast anything, that's all. O_o

True. But they could just give them some fear affects, not talking about the Fear power of Mind control or Dark powers but the affect that happens when any mob see's a hero of much higher level: they run away.
(A solution, though, would be to have a freedom corp hero around some of them, which would do a similar job.)
That would be fine.
It's just that 1) it should be a 'safe place' around trainers and especially around the surviving eight and 2) this game needs more player/enviornment interaction.

Hey Sword, you're danish too right? If you really want it, do the same thing as me (I'm not playing the game though), and go down to Farao's Cigar or Fantask and buy it, it's about 30 kroner, so, while a bit on the steep end, it's affortable.

There was a statement about it being available online eventually...
However as Top Cow is a for-profit organization, and the CoH comic is being sold in stores, I don't think it's will be available online for at least a month after the release date of the comic. Sucks, but that's business for the comic book world...

I've been getting my comics from my comic store, too, Sword. It's in the Previews catalogue, they should be able to order it.
Today I picked up #12 and the new #1. #12 is evil, I don't like the ending at all and that one pic of Warwitch's face... eew, thanks a lot. And the dialogue is the worst ever, what's with Requiem and his yellow, squishy line? Only part I laughed at was "lv15 Scrapper LFT". I love the new #1 though, it's well written, has good art and it's nice to find out more about the Surviving8.

Why not? Anything to marginalize blasters even more.
And how is letting the trainers (who are lvl 50, or higher) use a range attack to protect heroes marginalizing to blasters?
Both of those heroes are in the LOW level zone.
And shuriken IS an epic power. (doesn't do all that much damage, but a 50, attack a lvl 6, would certainly blow em to heck)
Please don't make a discussion on how to make the trainer areas into safe zone, by realistically using the heroes (via the sets that they are supposed to have) into a debate on the situation on blasters.

Back Alley Brawler is Energy Melee, isn't he? Either way, I'm sure he could just throw something. I didn't know Ms. Liberty was BS.
Quick question. In this comic, are the following Surviving 8 in it:
Citadel
Positron
Numina
Back Alley Brawler
If so, is it possible that someone can just scan the pages they are on and send them to me via email? I need the images for our upcoming Guru site. Thanks. :)

Energy Melee doesn't have any range either. (He could always use Hurl...From superstrength)
Ms. Libery uses a sword. It's not really a BS or Kat. (Neither have a range.) She could use a Shuriken, though. (Or maybe a throwing dagger...that'd be cool.)

Back Alley Brawler is in Issue 12 of the old comic. (Use it until he makes an appearance.)
Positron SHOULD be in the comic, as he'll be a regular.

[start rant]
Them not hitting or blasting anything IS my problem with them. Aside from the new comics they have never done anything after the war. All I am saying is that the Freedom Phalanx should reform and go off and do their thing. The city has more than enough lvl 50 heroes to train the young do gooders, so why not have player made heroes but submitted to Cryptic to be judged for who would possibly fill in for the Suriving 8 so they actually be exciting again.
The biggest thing that bothers me is that heroes with incredible powers would never, ever sit around just to train some low level newbies how to use their powers when the big boys are needed on the front lines. Statesman didn't sit on his backside and train new heroes during the Ritki War, or WWII. In fact, Statesman still doesn't train anyone because he is always getting captured by Tyrant. I certainly hope that all changes comehow when CoV comes out, but I doubt it will because there is a badge involved .
[end rant]
You'll be more impressed with them when they smack your CoV character around...
Actually, from the point of view of a villain it would just make me hate them more. Besides, I'll just team-up with Dark and Morc, and we'll mop the floor with them.

Secret Identity: Jessica Duncan
Origin: Natural
Archetype: Scrapper
Primary Powers: Martial Arts, Invulnerability
Zone: Atlas Park
Location: She is located in Atlas Plaza in front of the statue of Atlas.
Background: Jessica is the granddaughter of the original Miss Liberty from the Golden Age. She has taken up the mantle to fight for freedom, in this specific case to free Paragon City from its infestation of villains. She has heightened strength and endurance as well as the power of the Liberty Belt, which was passed on to her by her grandmother.
Early in her career Ms. Liberty worked extensively with Statesman, but recently seems to be spending more time working on making certain that new heroes in Paragon City have the information they need, as well as working on the Freedom Corps. It is clear that she is determined to do her energetic best to make the Freedom Corps the premiere hero assistance group in Paragon City someday.
not sure but i think in the official forums one of the devs posted an updated list of corrections. Ms. Liberty probably does use a broadsword now...

Ms. Liberty is the granddaughter of Maiden Justice and the daughter of Miss Liberty. Her first name is Megan, not Jessica. More information about her connection to Statesman will also be found in The Web of Arachnos.
Greetings,
The Surviving Eight are: Statesman, Positron, Synapse, Sister Psyche, Citadel, Manticore, Numina and Back Alley Brawler. They all agreed to remain in Paragon City after the Rikti War, to coordinate the efforts of the new heroes arriving every day.
Ms. Liberty is in fact Statesman's Sidekick but she leads a group of heroes herself. They are called the Vindicators: Minx, Valkyrie, Swan, Infernal, Luminary and most recently Aurora Borealis.
hope this clears things up...

Many of the questions posted here will be answered in the upcoming novel The Web of Arachnos . It will be released this fall and will reveal details about Statesman's life and Origin, as well as his connection to Lord Recluse.
Cheers.

(in reference to Statesman being the same guy in the Intro video or just a mantle that has been passed down generation to generation...) It is the same man, Statesman is immortal. Look for more details about his origin, his powers and how he is tied to Lord Recluse this fall in the upcoming novel: The Web of Arachnos.

Actually the Backalley Brawler used to be in KR and Galaxy City didn't even exist, but the testers said it would be better if there was another starting zone for lowbies. So the Brawler changed his zone and KR was the only trainerless city zone for a while.
"The Australian" was named Boxhead, as Mina said, and his pre-beta infopage is still up (http://hometown.aol.com.au/Boxhead6177/Freelancer/MainIndex.htm).
