I live in Dayton Ohio, which is notable for 3 things. Wright Patterson Airforce Base(making us First Strike Targets), The Birthplace of the Wright Brothers, and Being made fun of in a Recent Episode of the Simpsons
that is about it
I've lived here all my life. Jobs are Declining, All my friends have been moving out of the area. Hard as hell too meet good women here. It Sucks. The Malls suck now that they have nothing that interests me, whole area sucks. Whos with me

Stay away, stay far away. You know, theres one other thing about Dayton. Kind of reminds me of Raccoo City from Resident Evil.......cept WAY Smaller. Mainstreet only goes from 1st and maint oo about 10th and main and then theres alot of Farms and Cowpies

Just don't come to Orlando. Thats jumping out of the pan and into the fryer. The only decent arcade around here was torn down and won't be rebuilt for another year. The only knife shop went out of business. Annoying tourists are everywhere, and everything is too far away. The closest mall is 10 miles away, the nearest comic shop is 11, the nearest good comic shop is 20. I drive 24 miles roundtrip to work every day. If I want to hang out with my friends I come home with 80-100 miles on my odometer, and I reset every day.

You guys are funny.
I honestly don't get why an Air Force base in OHIO would be considered a first strike target by anyone with half a brain. Generally speaking, in modern warfare, first strike targets would be lightly defended but heavily populated areas where the most collateral damage possible can be done. That would mean NYC, Washington DC, Chicago, Miami, L.A., San Francisco, and the like. San Fran, New York, Miami, and L.A. would top the list being major seaports and business/financial centers.
You know what sucks?
- Being the top priority target of every crackpot terrorist group IN THE WORLD.
- Having so much variety (arts, entertainment, commerce, population) clumped into one small geographical area that you might as well put a bullseye on the entire southern New York, northern New Jersey, Connecticut area.
- Having to pay in the quadruple digits for a broom closet with roaches that you'd compliment by calling a "studio apartment".
- Having the wise folks at CNN International do a piece that essentially says, "You know, what would be particularly devastating would be a poison gas bomb in the subway during rush hour. It would be an order of magnitude worse than 9/11 and we wouldn't be the least bit prepared for it." Hey, CNN genius, SHUT THE FUCK UP!
- Having three prominent members of Congress and the Penguin....err Vice President get on national TV and say, with straight faces, that Casper, Wyoming (which half the country doesn't even know EXISTS) deserves to receive more money from Homeland Security than your city (which has been hit twice already).
- Hearing gunshots at night not even fazing you because you're used to it already.
- Related to the above: Being able to identify the gun by the sound of its gunshots.
- Having almost the entire city shut down....because the President's in town. Especially when he's only going to be in ONE area of the city (why does Harlem have to be shut down and/or rerouted when the President's in Midtown?).
- Sports fans from all over the country hating you because a) you have several major franchises in all the major pro sports b) your teams don't suck (except the Knicks) c) all of the above
- Your city's slogan: "Capital of the World". 'Nuff said
Yeah, Dayton may suck but it could be a whole lot worse.

actually, Wright Patterson Air Force Base is one of the top American Airforce Bases. Its a pretty large chunk of land, not too mention its one of the fabled Locations where people think an alien is being held(Like Area 51)
Military units come ina nd out of the base, and when it comes too First Strike, You dont just hit heavy populated Areas, you also hit areas primarily known for housing a lot of Military. Of course now adays people might think differently about striking Dayton first, but in the COld War, it was in the top list

I live up in Cleveland and have been down to Dayton a few times to visit family. The city always seems like a ghost town and there always seemed like there was very little to do. Nothing about the area really stood out, well except maybe the Air Force Museam and the base.

Move to Austin, TX. It's all good here.
(of course, I'm moving away from here tomorrow... but that's mostly due to forces beyond my control)
...
Oh yeah, I won't be around on the boards for the next week or so.

Remianen, move to Rio. It's just like New York, except you're more likely to get shot for wearing a watch, and the rent is actually reasonable.

I think everyone hates where they live eventually. I have lived in San Diego for 11 years now. Within a 2-hour drive of 30+ malls and 10+ amusement parks, beaches out the yin-yang, beautiful women, and just about any kind of resturaunt you can think of. But none of it means a damn thing if you don't go out and enjoy them. And lately, with gas prices, housing prices and pure California Snobbery, it just ain't worth the effort anymore.

It's funny, back in '98 when I was with American Express, I was given five choices of where I could relocate to:
1) Miami, FL
2) Atlanta, GA
3) Houston, TX
4) Omaha, NE
5) San Diego, CA
....and I chose Houston. To be fair, I loved San Dog but it held bad memories for me (I flunked out of SEAL camp in Coronado when my body broke down). My dad lives about 45 mins north of Miami and I have TONS of family in Georgia. You can imagine why I turned those two cities down. :p Omaha is...well, Omaha wtf and I couldn't see a 25 year old guy who had grown up in New York City and lived in the Bay Area adapting to OMAHA. Of course, then Frances drove me back to the cozy confines of hurricane-proof NYC but still...
San Diego's going to explode soon though (it's been on the verge of it for years). The housing market's gonna resemble New York within the next 5 years. :( Or maybe that's just the places I checked out.

The housing market in SD is already insane. That's pretty much the only reason why I don't still live there. I just can't afford it.

Well, after my week-long visit to Dayton, I have to say, it's not as bad as I thought it would be. Sure, there's not a lot of "attractions" there (although the AF Museum was Uber-Cool). But I liked the semi-smalltown charm of the area where I was (Englewood). I could see myself living there, though admittedly, that is highly tempered by who I would be loving with. :)
When I got off the plane and was headed back to my house, I looked around at San Diego, and wondered what the hell I was doing here. The noise, the overpopulation, the economy. My opinion of this town is steadily declining. Of course, it doesn't help that I'm really just a simple, small-town boy at heart. And I am reminded of that fact every time I visit a more rural area.

I don't know where else to say this, or even if I should, as it may be more than anyone is interested in hearing.
The teddy lady and I are not an item. In a nutshell, she is just a really good friend that I have known since I was 13 years old. I went to visit hoping it could turn into more. And even though the chemistry is there, she has issues regarding a past love that prevent her from committing to anyone else. So, we remain the best of friends.
That was hard for me to come to terms with, as my feelings for her run much deeper. But, in the end, "It's better to have loved and lost then to never have loved at all." That's my motto.
Anyways, I will be negotiating with the execs at the Lifetime Channel for the movie rights next week probably. :P
