Hello GURUS,
I figured I would use your talented brainstorming capabilities. I am in need of ideas for ways of raising funds. My daughter is participating in a National Talent competiotion, for acting, modeling, and singing in Disney Florida this comming January. The problem is that its an arm and a leg for all the Competition fees, training, and photo shoots, so I need to come up with ways to get money for this.
As some of you know I'm in the Air Force so I'm not allowed to do stuff at work, or in the installation like raffles and such.
I can ask for sponsorship, if you all know of somebody, or company that would like to help, let me know and I'll send the official letter.
I was doing a raffle for an IPOD NANO, but the AF told me that I could not do it so now I have a new NANO that I have to figure out what to do with.
anyways, any Ideas would be greatly appreciated.

What Kind of nano, my 2gb is full.
Um how much? A local business might help if they think they can benifit, and have to talked to the photographers in down about free head shots? If it is national and there is blurb about "G-nome's daughter's photos by" in the program, that might be enough.

Well, you can do some Paypal donation things, and just stick the logo on a website or what not. You can also make the Nano on ebay, and tell them what you are doing. Ebay could be bad.
EDIT: Oh and put lots of cutie images of her there. And Puppies!

BC beat me to it. You could put the nano on ebay, and explain what you were doing with the money.

This is spot on.
We've sponsored folks for the Miss Black America pageant and we generally treat it as a loss leader type of investment (that is, the costs are going to outstrip the possible benefit on paper, but the exposure may pay dividends in the future). What I suggest is you find a local designer who might be willing to furnish her dresses and wardrobe in exchange for a promotional credit and find a photographer who would do the same for the photos.
And I don't know this for sure, but I think your service commitment would require your wife to be the supervising parent in all this. Don't remember though.

Yeah, my wife is kinda shy so I'm having a hard time getting her to aproach businesses, and I can't really do it from over here so I might have to wait till I get back. Which gives me plenty of time to do research i guess.
Thanks for the inputs man, very much appreciated.

Depending on how old your daughter is, you should have her approach the businesses for sponsorship. With guidance from your wife, this would be a good learning experience for her. And it would spare your wife the hassle of having to do it. All she'd need to do is be the guiding force behind it, but she wouldn't have to do any of the approaching or asking. Plus I assume there will be some sort of interview component or whatever to competition. Approaching businesses would help your daughter practice her poise and presence in situations like that.
