View Full Version : Help me with my Video Driver
Ok scratch the topic. Need something different.
I went back to my old settings. because when I boot my system I comes up with a screen that says "select which system to run from" with
Windows Xp Home
Windows Xp Home
as my options. When I uploaded windows it just made a second file. I now have a WINDOWS and a WINDOWS.0.
Is there anyway I can remove one of the new one?

So basically you just don't want to see the two OS options when you boot up?
I've had the same problem in the past, what I did was edit the Boot.ini file. If you go to your root directory (C: ) there will be a file called 'Boot.ini'.
Double click on it, and it will open up in Notepad or whatever your default editing program is. Highlight all the text in there, and copy it. Then paste it here so I can see it.
Basically, all you have to do is take out the second OS option from the boot file, it'll still physically be there, but it won't give you the option to select it during bootup.
The only reason you see the initial boot up selection screen is because you have 2 different versions of Windows loaded. Without it knowing there are 2 versions, it will just automatically boot into whatever version of Windows that is in the boot.ini file instead of having you pick a OS version to load.
Here is an example of what my Boot.ini file looks like, just so you know what to copy.
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows XP Professional x64 Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
[B]IMPORTANT!
Do NOT change anything in that file yet, and if you do, DO NOT save it. Just copy all the text out and close it WITHOUT saving. Editing the wrong thing in that file could cause you to have a REALLY bad day.
Thanks a bunch man. If I can't totally remove it then I'm not going to mess with it.
