What did I just watch? Would I have understood more if I went to a real theatre instead of a drive-in? And what happened?

Was this any good? I think it looks terrible judging by the previews, but, I can't think of anything else to go and see at the theatre...

Krypto and I went to see it on Saturday and I was scared absolutely shitless. It's quite horrifying.

Athyna: if you have issues with it I'd suggest checking out the IMDb boards for the movie, they've got a lot of stuff there.

Thank you. We missed a little of the very beginning trying to find a parking place. I assume they explained what was up with Beth loosing folks, later on someone would say something about "It wasn't your fault...You've got to get over it so we can get out..." stuff like that. I had no idea what they were talking about.

Definately, don't miss the first five minutes.

Somewhere that stopped you from posting here. Probably those pesky official forums ;)

"The Descent" is quite a good movie. Starts with a bang, has a slow build up and then starts getting creepy just before it gets boring.

Of course, it's a bit obvious what one character's plot "twist" is, but the movie carries it pretty well. If you can accept the monsters for what they are, you'll probably enjoy this movie.

Great movie, I enjoyed it thoroughly, and jumped several times.

Oh, and you can afford to miss the first five minutes. Hell, miss the first 15 minutes. BECAUSE THEY'LL ALL BE GODDAMN COMMERCIALS!

By the time we started watching it, after we parked, that one girl was waking everyone up at the cabin while stretching one leg up over her head. I have no idea why or what happened before that.

Stupid drive-in...

when i heard about the movie, I was like, didn't they just make this? Sounds like The Cave with chicks.

It's supposed to be The Cave only not shitty. The director was actually using that as a slogan for critic interviews. I have to agree with his summary of the movie whole-heartedly.

Difference is that "The Cave" was made by a first time US director who was a visual effects guy for "The Matrix" movies; "The Descent" was directed by the guy who did "Dog Soldiers" and is British.

Oh, and "The Descent" was actually released before "The Cave" (March vs August 2005) but has only recently got US distribution.

What happened was: (highlight for *SPOILERS*)

Several of the girls finished up a white water rafting trip and the Final Girl (forget her name) was met by her husband and child. They hop in the car and drive off. It seems like the husband has something to tell the Final Girl, but before he does he ends up rear-ending a truck with a lot of overhanging pipes - Final Girl wakes up in hospital to find out that the pipes killed her husband and child.

This bit sets up the "cake in the dark" motif seen elsewhere in the film and the Final Girl tries to run from the darkness and ends up in the arms of her friends.

One year later, the friends all head off to a cabin in the woods in order to do some spelunking. It sort of sounds like you started watching during the bonding scene where the characters start to relax a bit around each other.
