Is it just me or was there no warning before it came down?

The really messed up thing -- this pattern of "up, down, up, down" as seen on the server status board has happened what 3 times now? What's going on on these particular servers that isn't happening on all the others??

From what I've heard it's all the west coast servers.

Suburban, it has NOTHING to do with Issue 4.
It is an ISP issue, as Cuppa has pointed out.

Looks like the West Coast Servers are about as stable as the West Coast Avengers.
Ugh. I think I just out-nerded the Nerd God.

I stand corrected, this is what I get for never going to the main boards anymore, lol. In anycase it's rather irritating because it's been frequent as of late.

Yeah no joke, their ISP needs to get on the ball.

Recent memory anyone remember this occuring for any other MMOs? Just curious.

Just to quote Cuppa's original explanation for Sundays outage:
I think it is fair to ask for some info on a 4 hour downtime. In fact, I would have preferred to have the info as it happened instead of later, but alas, I didn't get it until after.
Here is what I know.
There was a Major ISP outage in California and it just so happened to affect the connectivity to those game servers.
The way the Internet works is - you have your local ISP who services you and connects you to either another, larger ISP or to a "backbone" of the Internet. This backbone then connects you to another ISP in the area where the servers are and then to our network.
You-ISP-Backbone-ISP-US
The break was where the yellow letters are. Since they are not under our control there wasn't much we could do about it. We did do some rerouting that got us all back up much sooner than the actual downtime of that ISP.
(This is, of course, a very basic explanation of a complex process but I think you get the meat of it all)
We apologize for the outage, but it's a big big Internet and we aren't in charge of all of it.

Yep, in WoW...a helluva lot. Not the exact same issue I'm sure but there were times whole coasts would go out and for them that could mean 20-30 servers.

That bites. You would think NCSoft could take action against this ISP for that since it could ultimately cost them money...

Ah...yeah my time with WoW as so brief I didn't really encounter ANY problems in that game... now lets never speak of that period of my life again...

Ugh. I think I just out-nerded the Nerd God.Watch out man! Marvel will sue you for that comment. I hear they're thinking about suing NCSoft for having a collection of servers referred to as the West Coast Servers. Seems they think the name is too similar.

You could counter sue on the grounds that they made the complaints while wearing City Watch t-shirts. :P

Actually WoW was MUCH worse. Server would crash and when it came back up, you had to sit in a queue for an hour or more before you got to the character select screen. Then once you got there, some servers had issues where you'd choose and character and get booted back to login (so you'd go back to the end of the queue line). Fun fun. :p But then some servers would seemingly be immune to the problems (hail, Elune!).

Yep, it was pretty bad in WoW at one point, but they had no problems for a while now.

Recent memory anyone remember this occuring for any other MMOs? Just curious.Oh heck yeah. I don't know if they've had any major problems lately, but there were times in past years when EQ servers would crash and burn, sometimes wildly out of control. I know they also used to have issues with Planetside, and presumably SWG too. It can actually be fairly common, especially if your serverload/bandwidth grows.
That bites. You would think NCSoft could take action against this ISP for that since it could ultimately cost them money...ISP companies don't enter into contracts with computer game companies without clasues that protect them legally from total F' ups.
