So, the other night I was playing, when I suddenly got booted from the game, and then my computer froze. When I re-booted, I couldn't get into Windows.

Now, I have a restore disk that came with my computer, and I tried to use that to either get to Windows or reload windows, but neither is working.

Finally, I got to a DOS prompt, and I ran into someting weird. All of my drive letters seem to be off.

A drive is not my floppy drive (I don't know what it is, but it's not the floppy). B drive IS my floppy drive (normally, this would be A). C does not seem to be there. I go to the C drive, but I can't get a dir nor can I do a scandisk on C. D, which is normally my CD-ROM/DVD drive, is regestering as what I believe is normally my C drive. E is my CD-ROM/DVD drive.

So, does anyone know how to re-assign the drive letters?

Chris

I haven't used DOS in so long, I don't know the command. But when you boot up, does it just hang and not load windows at all? Have you tried hitting F8 during bootup to get the boot selection screen? From there you can select the option to 'use last known good configuration'. It will use the last settings that you used to successfully load windows. That's saved me quite a few times.

I'll give that a try tonight, thanks!

Should you be able to resurrect your computer, be sure to backup all essential files. I recommend getting Ad-Aware SE from http://www.lavasoft.com
It's free and pretty good.

Sounds like your HD died or maybe just needs to be reseated. If that happens, then all the drive letters move up one sometimes. I would unhook and reattach my HD, you would be amazed how often that works for getting rid of problems.

Yeah, a friend of mine suggested this. I tried it, but it didn't work.

However, good news, my computer is back! Even though I couldn't get DOS to read the C: drive, it would format it. Sense I had nothing there that I didn't also have backed up elsewhere, I went ahead and did so. So, I got windows re-loaded, and loaded up CoH. Now, I'm just patching. Hopefully, I'll be fully patched in time for Double XP weekend. :P

Thanks, everyone!
