Ok, I just finished watching the movie "Oldboy". And I have to say this is one of the craziest movies I've ever seen. (And I've seen some crazy movies ;))
I don't even know if I should reccomend it to people since I haven't decided yet if i want to put people I know through that experience.
It's really good but at the same time I sorta feel like I want someone to erase my memory after having seen it. It left too many scars on my psyche :chuckle:

awesome movie. it's the ultimate revenge / mind fuck movie. i would like to see an american version done with a bigger budget and a recognized director...

FYI, this movie is actually based on a manga and apparently captures the same kind of insane feel the source has.

This attitude is what is killing indigenous film industries.

Oldboy is possibly the best directed film I've have ever seen in my life. Remaking it would be a crime.

the action scenes, especially the fight scenes could have been coreographed(sp?) much better. when I fist heard about oldboy, I was expecting gruesome fight scenes like a combination John Woo and Quentine Tarintino. I was expecting massive amounts of blood and graphic mutilation. Luckily the story was so intriguing that the lame action/fighting skills could be over looked. I don't call throwing 500 punches, and swinging a hammer 1000 times and missing nine out of every ten times very exciting. Especially since the story leads you to beleive that he had been practicing and training his body for 18 years to unleash an unholy hell on his captives. IMO, that movie could/should have been shot scene for scene but just needed a better fight coordinator and a better cinematographer... I was just expecting alot more from the action scenes.

Yeah, but that doesn't call for Hollywood to step in and remake the entire movie, especially when considering that almost every remake Hollywood has ever churned out was utter shit.

To some people, the fight scenes may have been lacking, but Oldboy is an absolute masterpeice, and I'd hate to see it murdered by a 'Recognised Director.'

I knew about this movie for a while and wanted to see it, but kept forgetting to do so until you guys posted this. So I finally got it and am still amazed. I agree with what Sword says, it's an awesome movie you don't know if you can recommend it to others.
I don't agree on badly choreographed fighting scenes at all. The fight in the hallway with the hammer and that was one of the best and most realistic I've ever seen in a movie. Of course he had been training for 15 years, but that didn't make Bruce Lee or Son Goku out of him. Hardest scene for me: teeth torture. Followed by tongue. Pure graphical violence. And get the soundtrack, if you're into OSTs. It's amazing.
