What will I do on Independence Day? Aircraft from here will join others from around the world. And you will be launching the largest aerial battle in the history of mankind. "Mankind." That word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests. Perhaps it's fate that today is the Fourth of July, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom... Not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution... but from annihilation. We are fighting for our right to live. To exist. And should we win the day, the Fourth of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day the world declared in one voice: "We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight!" We're going to live on! We're going to survive! Today we celebrate our Independence Day!

Now that's what I call a close encounter!

Serious answer: Probably playing some Nintendo DS. Just bought Animal Crossing and apparently they hold a fireworks show.

Hopefully not working. Trying to find a fireworks show and a great place to get drunk and pass out.

And of course Fireworks are illegal here in New York so we do what we always do when I'm not in Disney World for the 4th, have the family over for a BBQ, go in the pool and watch neighbors with their fireworks. If they say that'll cost you 60 bucks it'll cost twice the ammount to get it here.

While in no way related to Independence Day, of the speeches given in regards to the annihilation of the human race by aliens I like the following best. I actually felt proud to be Human the first time I heard this. :chuckle:

"Fellow Terrans, I come to you in the wake of recent events to issue a call to reason. Let no human deny the perils of our time. While we battle one another, divided by the petty strife of our common history, the tide of a greater conflict is turning against us, threatening to destroy all that we have accomplished. It is time for us as nations and as individuals to set aside our long-standing feuds and unite. The tides of an unwinnable war are upon us, and we must seek refuge on higher ground, lest we be swept away by the flood.

The Confederacy is no more. Whatever semblance of unity and protection it once provided is a phantom; a memory. With our enemies left unchecked, who will you turn to for protection? The devastation wrought by the alien invaders is self-evident. We have seen our homes and villages destroyed by the calculated blows of the Protoss. We have seen first-hand our friends and loved ones consumed by the nightmarish Zerg. Unprecedented and unimaginable though they may be, these are the signs of our time.

The time has come my fellow Terrans, to rally to a new banner. In unity lies strength; already many of the dissident factions have joined us. Out of the many, we shall forge an indivisible whole, capitulating only to a single throne. And from that throne, I shall watch over you!

From this day forward, let no human make war on any other human. Let no Terran agency conspire against this new beginning. And let no man consort with alien powers. And to all the enemies of humanity, seek not to bar our way, for we shall win through, no matter the cost!"

I plan to celebrate my freedom by cooking an amazing 4-course dinner!

I'll start with some well-chilled melon liqueur that I bought in Provence during my trip, along with a warm chevre and melon salad with prosciutto.

Then for the main course I'll grill some restaurant-quality steaks (I love being friends with chefs at 4-star restaurants... he's getting me some wild boar and some cuttlefish ink next month); and popping the cork on a bottle of 2003 Rex Hill Chehalem Mountains Cuvee Pinot Noir that I've been aging. Still working out what I'm going to serve with the steaks (maybe some fresh asparagus and some kind of creamy risotto, but I'll see what's at the market and how my muse feels about things).

Next comes a salad of spinach and field greens with bleu cheese. (In traditional French cuisine the salad is served at the end of the meal, before dessert.)

For dessert I'll serve my signature raspberry upside-down cake with creme anglaise and some icy cold limoncello that I got from a little artisanal distillery in Eze, Provence during my trip.

I'll probably watch some fireworks over the lake too; depends on if I want to brave the mosquitos or not.

And finally, as has been done in my family on Independence Day since I was a little girl, I'll read the Declaration of Independence. Still gives me chills. :)

I'll be stuck home doing my mid term and homework from the week of class I missed. I notified my teachers early when I was sick and later asked for an extension on my mid term and missed assignments. I have till Wednesday next week.

*buys more placemats*

I have a rule in my house: there is always room for one more at my table. I love feeding people. :)

Someday I hope to host a Guru meetup in my neck of the woods, and do a crazy amount of cooking for you folks. Have to get a bigger apartment and some better job security first, but perhaps summer of 2007?

My mother, friend and I are going to Cannon Beach, Oregon. We're staying in a townhouse and on the 4th, making a huge bonfire, and bunkers and shooting off fireworks that I just bought on an indian reservation.

Is it Missouri? I hope it's Missouri. I would drive anywhere in this state to hear Alumette say, "Bon jour, monsieur Wolf!"

And then she could feed me red meat.

I would bring my own beers.
