View Full Version : What comics do you purchase regularly?

Okay, guess i'll go first...
i don't really collect comics anymore but i do pick-up first issues of series i think will become popular.
i do purchase Poison Elves but it hasn't been publishing regularly for awhile now due to the creator's (drew hayes) failing health.
i also regularly purchase KODT (Knights of the Dinner Table) which is mainly just a collection of poorly drawn comic strips about a role playing gamer community, and the other half of the comic is gamer related articles. It's a true comic magazine. The strips remind me of my old AD&D roleplaying groups.
i do look for newly released trade paperbacks.
in my younger days i used to be really picky about the art, but nowadays i care more about the story.
what i'm interested in is what comics to you have a subscription to or purchase on a regular basis...?

The collected PvP strips that Image puts out are good reads, and much more fun to read a story line all at once. I thouroughly enjoy Outsiders by DC and JSA as well. Marvel Knights Spiderman has been great so far, and the new Black Panther series is looking very good.

RIght now, i'm subscribed to JSA, Green Lantern, Amazing Spider-Man, New Avengers, Teen Titans, Astonishing X-Men and... I guess that's it. Huh. Not nearly as much as I thought. I keep meaning to add Legion of Superheroes and Fantastic Four, but I keep forgetting about it.

Living in England, single issue subscriptions aren't going to happen, but I've been thinking about a way I can start picking up some of the batman titles regularly - which of the Bat titles are the best to start picking up??

Your best bet would be the plain ol' Batman book. I think they're just wrapping up the Red Hood arc in that title (not sure, haven't been reading it... waiting for the trade), so now could be a good jumping on point.

I only buy trades, but the ones I follow religiously are Y: The Last Man, Invincible, Planetary, Runaways and The Walking Dead.
I'm an addict and admit to it. Its too the point the guys at the local shop I go to see me step through the door and just drop my stack on the counter. Anyways here's the list. JSA, GL, Twighlight Experiment, Noble Causes, Young Avengers, Ultimates, Ultimate Secret, Tom Strong, Nightwing, Teen Titans, Zatanna, Myth Knight, The Escapist, Thunderbolts, plus anything else that seems to catch my eye.

Just cancelled UFF now that Ellis is finished his run. I have no desire to see Millar turn it into another vapid sex-and-angst fest. I'll be picking up regular 616 Fantastic Four as soon as Straczynski starts his run.

Astonishing X-Men... this book seems pretty popular. A friend of mine let me borrow his Trade for the fist few issues of this, and I have to say, I just wans't impressed. It was just... I don't know... dull. It was just another X-book, to me. Maybe I just am totally burnt of the X-man (though Ultimate X-men is cool).

People read AXM because Joss Whedon writes it and they love Joss Whedon. Thus, anything Joss Whedon does must be good.
Even if it's not.
AXM has some snappy dialogue, but that's about it. I'm not impressed.

I like Joss Whedon too (or at least, I like Firefly), but still..
Anyway, glad to see I am not alone in this.

Yeah, I liked it don't get me wrong, but I don't think it's all what it's cracked up to be.
And to add to my previous post, I usually follow writers more than I follow characters, like Warren Ellis, Brian Bendis (although I have to admit, I don't feel he's quite as good as he use to), Alan Moore, Brian K Vaughan, Robert Kirkman and sometimes Mark Millar.

I'll say that his characterizations are good - but the storyline (either the first or this latest one) really disappoint me.
