I'm pretty much a PC man, but I got a laptop as a present that has a Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 900 setup. The problem is, City of Heroes is one of the few games that it lists on it's site that it won't support. I was wondering how costly it would be to get a laptop upgraded so that it would play CoH. Other than that it has a a gig of Ram, and 100 GB Hard drive space, and all the other system specs seem good. I'm just trying to figure out how costly it would be to upgrade rather than trade it in for another one.

It depends what kind of laptop it is, some laptops aren't made to be upgraded. Some PC's are like that too. They'll solder the memory onto the motherboard, or the graphics and sound will be built into the motherboard instead of a PCI/AGP card. With PC's you can work around that by disabling the built in sound/video and adding a PCI/AGP card.

I personally have never opened up a laptop like I do my PC, as I'm just to paranoid about it. Laptop components generally cost a bit more than PC components due to their small size and of course the labor is a bit more involved in repairing/installing a laptop component vs. a PC one.

I would probably take it to a Best Buy or some other place like that and get a quote. If it can't be done they'll at least tell you.

Ok, cause I play CoX on a Dell laptop, I would rather play on a pc but what can I do. I know the Dell is pretty upgradable, I have added more memory, it just got a new hd, etc. I've never installed the components myself, I know someone who can do that for me so I don't mess it up. Unfortunately like Blackbat said the cost of components for laptops are more expensive so it might cost you more than you want. Go to a Best Buy or somewhere like that, but be warned if they do it for you they aren't cheap.

Hey AG -- If you want to save a couple bucks I'd recommend newegg.com for your parts. Laptops aren't always fun to upgrade, especially video cards, so make sure you have any kind of manual that your machine came with before you open it up or you could run the risk of frying the whole thing.
