View Full Version : The Name Game

Krypto

Well, Krypto needs a new name and I thought "Who better to ask than the Gurus themselves." :)
Here's the deal, whoever suggests the name that I end up using gets a million(Virtue) influence, and my personal gratitude.

Got tagged by the name police ey?

Liberty-Lad is available if you want it...

I'll give you State Shield if you'd like. (free of charge :))

It might help if you gave us something to go on. Like do you want the name to be patriotic? Or Alien? Or should it have something to do with him powers? Etc.

Krypto
05-15-2005, 03:42 AM
Well, basically anything that sounds good. I'm looking for something real heroic. :P
State Shield sounds cool, lets hear some more. :lollipop:

How about:
PowerKing?
Tru-Man?
Super Orion?
SuperMegaMan?
Ultrastar?
Ultra Max?
DynaMax?
Atommax?
SuperPowered?
SuperSmack?
Doomsmith?
WarStarr?
Mighty-Maxx?
DarkStarr?
Shining Shadow?

Valiant

(Or other similar adjectives)

AfterglowNoMore
05-15-2005, 04:10 AM
Valor, Maximum, Maximan, Silent Sentinel

I'll think of more later, all I got off of the top of my head.

A name I've had since beta is Darkfly. Doesn't really match your costume, but sounds cool.

vyxzuw
05-15-2005, 04:20 AM
How about:

Darkhorse

(Everyone loves an underdog.)

Krypto
05-15-2005, 04:27 AM
Hmm, some good names so far.

I'm not really a fan of the dark darkity names, though. ;)
Krypto wasn't originally supposed to be dark. However, it was the only punching set that Scrappers had, and at the time, Tanker Super Strength was HORRIBLE.

Hey You or That Guy

Sable Phoenix

All names tested for availability on Virtue.

Heroic (hey, you said you wanted something heroic... I took it literally. A slight variation is Heroic Man, which is also available)
Freedom Watcher
Freedom Shield
Courageous (I know, I couldn't believe it either)
Valiant (couldn't believe this one either)
Ultimate (couldn't... eh, you know)
Ultimate Man
Integral Man
Fearless Man
Superlative Man
Epic Man
Maximum Man
Optimum Man
Incredi-Man and IncrediMan
Lord Valor (if you don't mind being pretentious)
Superguard
Supershield

I could probably think of more but I'm sleepy.

Krypto
05-15-2005, 06:36 AM
Thanks for the list, Sable.

However, I would be willing to bet that the reason they are available is because they're titles. Something similar to why Grimace can't have his name. :p

Charon
05-15-2005, 12:03 PM
I'm kinda liking SuperGuard from Sable's list.

Seadevil
05-15-2005, 02:42 PM
Freedom Shield sounds kinda spiffy.

Sebastian Kain
05-15-2005, 02:52 PM
I like Fearless Man myself.

Solario
05-15-2005, 03:28 PM
I wanna say Omni-Man, but that's just another copyright issue waiting to happen.

I too like SuperGuard, but it really depends on his background.

The Hizzoner

Stan Walker

I don't completely understand, did you seriously get an email from NC to change Krypto's name or are you just looking for a new one in case that? Cause Krypto might be a stupid wonderdog, but it's also a chemical substance (Krypton (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krypton)). :eyebrow:

Since Krypton comes from Greek "kryptós", which means "hidden" I'd suggest simply changing your name from Krypto to Crypto or Kryptos.

(for Greek alphabet the translations vary, why you see Cyclops and Kyklops happening. Both are correct. It's like the Japanese transolations where a name written in Roman letters can be Kuririn or Krilin, both being correct somehow. So Crypto would be as correct, concerning the Greek, as Krypto.)

ShadowSoldier

how about Hero Two? O_o
Seriously, I think the names sound better as nouns instead of the adjectives.
Instead of Courageous--> Courageon (or something like it)
I personally like Valiance

Stalking Shadow

What if you put Krypto in blackface and name him "Boy"? :P

Yeah, they changed it. Despite the fact that it probably doesnt even infringe any trademarks, they still changed it because it was "too similar" to "Krypto the Superdog".

I've also tried Crypto and Kryptos, but both are taken anyways. Not that it'd matter, they probably still wouldn't let me change it to either one, since I tried Kripto, and they said it was "too similar to the name that was changed".

One of these three comes to mind, as they're similar:
Klaatu
Verata
Nicto

you may have an issue with Klaatu as it was a character's name in a movie, that and it's already taken on virtue, but the other two aren't, as of the time of this posting.(Nikto is however ;))

Wow, this sucks. Im surprised they havn't warned me about it since my name sounds similar to Thundercats.

"Thunder, thunder, thunderbeast! He likes hoesss!"

Rofl. I still remember him saying that. :D

Holy ****, that is unnecessary finickiness. If they start changing trademark names AND names that somehow are alike, how about we just start changing ALL hero names to GenericHero9357345 and the like?
Did you try posting about it at the official forum? I have seen many threads about similar name changes pop up lately.

What do you guys think of Krono?

inkblaster
05-16-2005, 12:05 PM
That's pretty cool, and similar enough that it doesn't seem so bad. They also have Kronos Titans in the game so there's much less chance of them saying it's already trademarked ::cough::justice avengers::cough::
I say if it's free go for it.

And if I may minorly rant.
With all this cracking down they really need to do a database wipe of accounts inactive for older than 6 months. How many names are locked up by obsolete accounts that probably will never come back? Thousands methinks, and now they are further decreasing the name pool by tightening their watch on trademarked names.
/rant

I'd go with poison's choice, derivitive of the greek, "Kryptos"...you don't really change who you are and you get away from their "copyright protection".

About 60k accounts, each with a possible 8 names per server, bringing the grand total to 480 THOUSAND names that could potentially be freed.
Of course, the number's probably around 180k names or so.

a few more:
Duke Apostle
Grey Marauder
Super Bolt
Power guard
Steelstrike
IronDuke
Steel Smasher
Baron Blitzkrieg
Ultra Star

Masked Revenger

I sympathise with you, man, I really do (as you know, going through the same thing with my SG).

I like Krono and SuperGuard, those both sound cool.

Here's some of my ideas, but I'm not sure if they are available or not:

The Defender
Captain Defender
Captain Justice
Star Shield (inspired by your costume)

Ok, to update you guys, I went ahead and with with Krono, and it turned out to be just fine.

So that means, the money goes to myself, muhahaha! jk, haha.
Of course, my gratitude goes out to all of you for suggesting all the cool names, if any of you ever need any favors, let me know.

I'm sure there are some who have left the game, but I'm also sure there are others who are sure they will come back. I am biased of course because I have just returned after 8 months or so (parents say I can't play during school year). If an account is inactive for 10-12 months though I totally agree.

Looks like they flubbed or something, after logging in I noticed they changed the name to Kripto. :)
Not sure if it'll stay, but I sure hope so.

Be willing to bet they changed it because you suggested it, and their legal team came back and said, "Yeah, it's different enough, keep it". The squeaky wheel gets the grease, you know. :D
