I'm debating on being a part of this, (i'm still trying to decide if I did join this, who I would use)

Now, Agent Q. would most likely make sense for a secret agent story, plus he's worked with Alumette before in the past.

But if it's going to be all secrety and stuff (and involve Crey) I have another hero (currently unattached to any sg) who might fit in with that situation as well.

Q has a little background in his crey report, but most of it isn't listed there.

The alternative has a bit of background on Crey (mostly technical schematics and such) However that character has the advantage of having a well established personality (I played her under the HERO game system for aoub t2 years before i even got CoH) Links to her Crey report are in my sig (it's Mikoto)

lemme know which you like better, i'm flexible.

Well, the last post sets up the RP. Shadow's been given the go ahead to select people for a task force to work on this. And like he said, Shadow might even be looking for inexperienced folks (in the area of covert activity) to give more insights, etc. After he gets out of the hospital, it becomes the Ocean's Eleven recruiting sequence, if you catch my drift.

Alright, with that said my problem still is should I use Frost (who knows Shadow & conversely Alumette pretty well) or Saber (who of course knows Alumette but hasn't met Shadow...the problem there being it'd have to be after everything that's goin on in the other rp...) Oh and will our characters be in it in a one-shot type deal or ongoing (since this is a TF and all)?

This might be sort of a low impact, but ongoing storyline. I'll make it pretty easy to jump in and out of, though. You choose how much you want to implicate yourself in this.

I'll be more than happy to submit Countryman for this task. Chances are high that his own agency is already up to speed about Shadow's condition and the chemicals so you'll probably have Countryman waiting outside of the hospital for Shadow to exit.

Its likely to be one of those, "you've got me whether you like it or not, so deal with it" situations.

well, her brain is hardwired with a wireless modem and computer link (basically she has a built in PDA.)

the big debate is whether to do her as a pre treatment or post treatment (psychiatric treatment to help her adjust to what was done to her)

There's a few details of the incident of her arrival in her Crey Report.

if Pre treatment she'd possibly be in the hospital there with Shadow as a patient.

If post treatment, then she has issues with crey (they tried to kidnap her a few times)

Seriously, folks, no worries about just jumping in on the story. This thread is totally open, so if you can come up with a plausible way to get your character in touch with any of those already involved, you're good. Or have them off somewhere (as Noble's doing with Countryman), only to appear on the scene later.

I've been RPing with Shad long enough to know that he's generally not much of a plan-the-RP-in-advance kind of guy; and also tht he's talented enough to weave a story from pretty much whatever is thrown at him. Part of that comes from his totally awesome ability to view an RP story as a collective rather than as a scene which he directs. So all contributions are welcome. And part of it comes from his ubar 5k331z as a storyteller. :)

So we really do *mean* it when we say "jump in." Just do it! :) I have no idea where this is going to go either, but it sure will be fun, that's a guarantee.

Can't wait to see where all this goes. Keep posting, jump in anytime, etc!

Maz, no worries on your posts. They're fine. That goes for everyone, actually. This is really coming along. As far as taking over other peoples' characters in your posts goes, I can definitely appreciate your hesitation. I try to do that as little as possible, but sometimes it's necessary to keep the thread moving along.

Here's a rule of thumb that may help you. If the stuff you have the other character do is within the bounds of a logical, normal human response (e.g. nodding, looking confused, smiling, etc.) then you're good. If you have them *do* something, like go crazy and attack everyone in the room, you're probably overstepping the bounds. Of course there are hundreds of degrees in between, but the cool thing is, the worst that will happen is, the player will say, "My character wouldn't do that," and you go back in and edit. No harm done. But go with what's comfortable for you.

Shad pretty much has carte blanche with Alumette, as far as I'm concerned, so don't let that worry you into thinking that you *have* to be taking over peoples' characters in your posts. He and I do it with eachothers' characters simply because we've been RPing them together long enough that we've developed a level of comfort with that. But it shouldn't be considered the expectation for everyone, and if it makes you uncomfortable to do so, no worries. :)

Sorry that I haven't been able to post a decent reply yet, I've been sort of swamped. Hoepfully (if no climbers show up at work) I should be able to draft up something rough.

As to what I call PC-as-NPC: do whatever within reason, if you're unsure of what the character's reaction would be, and you need a reaction to achieve the point of your post, contact the owner of the character and give them the question. For Shadow, PMs, AIM, and email (thelivr@gmail.com) are good ways of contacting me about questions.

Just a note on Alum's thinking with "It's kind of dark in here." I assume Countryman is casting a shadow over the room. Up to you all (or the GM of the story) if we dare peer out the window and notice him or not. If not, we'll just shrug and assume it's wacky hospital lighting. If so, we can pull open the blinds and be amazed at the giant human standing nearby. Your call.

Also, just because I feel bad about jumping onto the thread before anyone has had a chance to reply to Shad's latest request for comments and criticism, I'll reiterate on his behalf:

I don't know if Countryman's shadow would be able to project that far, but then again I am not sure of what floor Shadow's room is on. If it was a first, or possibly second floor, and depending on the time of day, Countryman's shadow could possibly stretch that far.

And to Chairleg, I don't mean to come across as though I personally do not care, because I do, but at the moment Countryman is trying to remain anynonmous to Shadow and those inside. So he has choosen to ignore Jude mainly because he already doesn't like him, but also because he has more important things on his mind. He doesn't really care about anyone, period. But, if you get in his way, to reach his objective, during a fight, ect.., he will definately let you know and he won't be nice about it either.

Countryman also wants to wait until the other members of the TF come out of the hospital. Mainly because he can't go in without doing a lot of damage, and that would most likely bring a lot of unnecessary attention from random heroes in the city. Not that he would care, but it would delay his mission and thats the big thing.

EDIT - I just saw Shadow's posts before Alumette's in the OOC thread, and I want to say that the entire story up to the task force forming has been flat out amazing! An incredibly indepth and very personal view on the conflicts going on within the characters. Great job Shadow and Alumette :thumbup: :rock: :headbang: :banana3:

Most definately Shadow. When I first saw the rp I was a bit upset because I knew I didn't have time to sit down and read it. As a bit of a fan of the rp's you and Ms Alumette put on, I knew beforehand it was going to be some good stuff. It didn't disappoint and I really liked how it gave more insight on both Shadow & Alumette and their relationship (which is always a big thing to me....how characters relate to other characters make the story more engaging IMO). And like I said before, I'm more than happy to be able to be a part of this story b/c methinks it'll be top notch like the others you guys had wayyyy back when on the old forums.

The only criticism I can think of right now is that I'm ready to get this thing rolling. :chuckle:

That's what I thought and thats why Jude did what he did. Consider it IFF. He's had it confirmed that Countryman isn't a team player and is on nobody's side other than his own. If Countryman becomes a risk to the Taskforce then JJ might have to act to deal with him... >:]

Robotic Rampage Rocks the Row!

Pandemonium reigned in Kings Row today after a 14-block bloodbath ensued. Involved in this Gruesome Melee were Members of several gangs and one shadowy robotic figure. The Paragon City Police Dept. held reporters back from the carnage, but thanks to Doc Graviton, the menace was soon subdued, held floating in place 6 feet off of the ground!

Resident liaison for the PCPD, Cipher attempted to interface with the strange robot, but got no responses. Finally, Lady Blue from the Blue Steel organization tried to get into Mental contact with the strange automaton. At which point it became clear that this mechanical monstrosity was in fact Mikoto Yuanchi age 13, missing and presumed dead from the time of the initial blows of the Rikti invasion! Apparently the poor child had no recollection of the berserk fury she had descended into for the past 48 hours, and precious little of her time that has passed since her dissapearance.

Recap: Shadow, after an assignment in Britain left him with questions and the desire to form a task force, is recuperating in Chiron Medical Center for mysterious withdrawal symptoms. Alumette sent out an email to all heroes regarding Shadow's request for volunteers in a task force. Heroes started showing up in Shadow's room to wish him well. Meanwhile, Mikoto, in a nearby lab, goes beserk and breaks out of her captivity, conveniently finding her way into Shadow's room. Countryman, a "hero" working for a shadowy government agency, has been assigned to track Shadow and join his task force, as has Jude Justice. Tygerwolf, who seems to be a retired hero, is interested in coming back into the service, and wants to start with Shadow's task force. Frost Cat seems ambivalent about joining this task force, but is coming anyways, and currently is finding out what Countryman is up to. (Happy now, Frosty?)

As it is, we're still in Shadow's hospital room, waiting for a word from the doctor to release him. If Roland or EO's character wants to meet him in the room or elsewhere, is your decision. As it is, I'd just like to get folks making at least one introductory post stating where you are before I drop the release and things start moving faster.

By the way, in case anyone noticed, Mikoto ALWAYS uses real names instead of hero names (at least in her head) If she uses your characters real name and that's an issue, let her know. Okay I posted kind of a general wrap-up to get us all to the same point in the story. Shad has been released from the hospital, and is still giving himself his injections until they can figure out a treatment for him. He's also deeply entrenched in preparing the briefing for the task force, so you won't see much of him until that's done. Part of that is because Shad is in Japan right now in RL, so he won't be adding to the thread for another week or so. :)

If there's anything your heroes are doing in the meantime before the briefing, now's the time to do it. I'm guessing that time-wise we're kind of in this flexible void between his release from the hospital and the briefing, so if your hero is doing anything in that time, post it. :)

Also, I took a few liberties with the story to kind of get things to a wrapping-up point before the next set of scenes. If any of it doesn't meet Shad's approval when he gets back from Japan, I'll edit. I'm pretty sure it shoudl be fine though. In any case, the point is he's been released and will call the briefing soon. So if there's anything your characters do in between then, post it; likely you won't have to change even if I end up editing my post.

At this point I am very confused. You sent out a message for a bunch of heroes to form a task force that you didn't seem to need at the moment. The formation seemed premature considering that now many of us have a LOT of free time to make up... well something, of that I have no idea what to do. My character isn't one for wasting time, and he would likely beat the snot out of everyone and kidnap shadow if they refused to start as soon as he left the hospital.

To me it seemed like a task force was assembled so we could just sit on our butts while Shadow and Alumette enjoy quality time together. A lot of things just don't seem to add up, and I'm only voicing a few of my concerns to keep this from becoming a rant.

Maybe I misunderstood something from the conversations I had with Shadow, who knows.

Well, you guys know as much as I do at this point. I think initially the TF was requested so Shad's player could have an IC way to see who all was interested in participating in the RP. With him being gone this week in RL, unfortunately, the thread is on hold. As far as the idea that the TF was called just so Shad and Alum could have QT together, well, that's not the case. They don't need a TF for that. ;) Honestly, I think it was just his way of IC getting people to sign on to the storyline. He's not a fan of posting an OOC sign-up thread first, and then writing the story around that. He's more of a "let's see who jumps in and then run with what we get" kind of guy.

As to what the rest of your characters do during that time, that's totally up to you. I asked him in chat the other night what was going to happen to Shad during the week that his player was in Japan and he said, "He'll just be sequestering himself in his office gathering information to prepare for the briefing." If you want, I can have Alum send out another email to the TF members and we can all get together for a little get-to-know-you type thing that won't advance the plot much, but will give us all something to do (and might add a little color to the story) while the players wait for the GM to get back. :)

My guess is that once he gets back, Shad will write up the scene for the briefing and then the fun will begin. Remember that even though we've had a few weeks of this thread in real-time, in terms of the story it's only been a couple of days, max, sincd Shad returned to Paragon from the UK and the TF was assembled.

My rationale behind writing what I just posted in the IC thread was to get us all out of the hospital and sort of end that scene, so we could be ready for the next bit of plot-advancement. It was a jump-cut.

To be honest, I was under the impression that Shad's player had made some arrangements with Jude and Countryman in PM about this thread (i.e. that you guys have knowledge that the rest of us don't), so I assumed maybe some of that stuff would come out during this time. Apparently that wasn't the case and like I said if you're confused at this point, you guys know as much as I do.

I honestly don't know what to think because this has done a complete 180 to what I expected. Right now I'm debating about dropping out. It just seems that the story took a major turn that left so much plotline and story out. Every post we make now will be like a flashback, instead of happening in real-time.

I'm a picky old grandma when it comes to RPing and storyflow. Guess I shouldn't have got involved in the first place.

Sure thing, Stan. At the moment, Shad's player is in Japan so the thread will be kind of on hold until he gets back (sometime early next week). However no need to wait for the high sign from me to have your character jump in. Alumette received Stan's email and will include him in the TF list.

Just so everyone knows, at this point, Shad will likely have some interaction with Countryman, and then will go back home/to DPHQ to gather info for the briefing; after which he will call the briefing and a communique will be sent out to all heroes who signed on. So that would be the definite point to jump in, once you get the communique. But if you want to have your character do something for color in the meantime, go for it.

The basic rule of thumb is, if you feel like your character would do something at a particular time, go ahead and post and have them do it. We're all collective storytellers here; not puppets in Shad's play (well, at least not *now* we're not...<evilgrin>)

I'm working on a post at the moment, it should be up by Monday. Here's the deal:

I am a firm believer in spur-of-the-moment RP, anything you write and post on the thread, so long as it makes sense given the established plotline, is applicable, and worth dealing with. The cool thing about this RP, so far, is that we're seeing a half a dozen or so individual plot lines begin to weave together and make something cohesive and interesting.

Mikoto's escape and the ensuing search, Countryman's "involuntary" property destruction, One Hit Wonder's recovery, Tigerwolf's romance, etc. are perfectly valid and acceptable sub-arcs to this larger story. Alumette and Shadow are an item, so they show affection to each other. That we're using time in the story arc to develop this isn't because we want to focus on it, but rather because we're holding the plot in place while trying to keep the story towards the top of the thread lists. We fall back to that plot arc while we wait for the rest of you to jump in, react, and socialize. I think that a mistake that some of you are making is waiting for permission to jump in. If you really feel more comfortable clearing something with me, or any other participant, talk to us! I'm available on AIM, and I answer PMs. Alternatively, post here. Don't sit on your hands waiting for an invitation.

As to where this is headed: I'm going to post Shadow's reaction to Countryman, then I'll cut to the briefing. If you want to finish anything at the hospital, feel free to do so now, or after I do my post, then cut to the briefing yourself.

The few requirements I do have, when it comes to posting:
1. Grammar, punctuation, and spelling had to at least have been considered. It just makes reading longer pieces that much easier.
2. Keep it appropriate. Not for my sake, more for other folks who'll blame me for being some sort of hedonistic sex-monger that'll allow such material.
3. Make sure that what you're posting makes sense given the already established material. Read the thread before posting, and if you have any questions, ask me or another poster.
4. Answer questions that someone else might have about the thread, or forward them to someone with the answer.
