My kittens are so cute. The little cream-colored one is starting to explore the little box they live in, and should be trying to get out of it soon. The gray one is lazy and fat, and sleeps all the time unless you're holding it, in which case it cries and whines until its mama takes it away from you and puts it back in the box.
Mina's doing good, too. She's stressed, I think, from having to stay inside for so long. Whenever I pet her now, I get handfuls of fur soming off of her. I think most of that is her winter coat coming out, but I worry a little bit. She's started eating dry food again, which is better for her than the canned stuff, even if she likes the canned better.
I can't wait until the kittens start getting playful. I'm sure my mom will take tons of pictures, and I'll try and get some on the web... somehow.

Back on topic. Thinking of getting a puppy for the household this summer. Thinking it'll be pricey to keep him and stuff. My roomate really wants one. I want a German Shepard or Husky or both. He wants a Pit I think. Might need to get a toy dog. O_o

that being said, why not get all three? (german shepard pit cross)

I meant like a toy dog. (it's a type Maz) O_o And mixing them all looses the effect.

I take my picts to CVS to develop and there is an option to have them put them up on the internet for me to grab. Easy as pie.

Make sure you think this all the way through. A dog is a 10+ year commitment. Yearly vet visits, food, toys and treats add up. Not to mention housetraining (for potty purposes as well as not eating cords & woodwork and house manners), walks/yard cleanup and sicknesses.
I suggest adopting from a pound or rescue organization. Research your favorite breeds. See if that kind of dog fits your lifestyle and personality. Find a good match and you have a best friend. I do hate to hear stories of people who rush out and buy the first cute puppy they see and end up with an unhappy family and unhappy/neglected/unmanagable animal. Especially when they get a breed they like but never looked into it to find if it was compatable with their lifestyle.
Oh, and getting one dog takes work. Taking in two is triple the work. Just to let you know. :)
But that's just my opinion. And I'm quite vocal about it. I got my dog at the Humane Society for $50 and she is the best dog. (Funny thing is that she was brought up from Georgia)
And don't rule out medium sized dogs. What is it with guys wanting big horse-sized dogs? :P
My last dog, a dachshund, used to chase the neighbors big lab away all the time. I swear he thought he was a 80lb Dobe and not the little 12lb weiner dog he was. My sister's dachshund cross used to chase away any dog she didn't like. Rottie, Shepard whatever. Little dogs have big egos too. ;)

maybe i should have rephrased that SK, not an action figure of a real dog, IMHO getting a toy dog is like when you want a Nice car, and instead of getting the nice car, buying a scale model of it.

I have just added CVS to the list of evil empires which won't get my money unless there is dire need.
CVS bought out Eckerd Drug, a regional chain, and then promptly closed half of the stores. The ones that remained were of course renamed to CVS. What is making me angry is the quality of service has dropped.
Looks like I'll spend my money at Walgreen's now.

I actually tend to call all drugstores CVS. (Brooks, Walgreens, Eckard whatever) It must be their evil plot to take over the world!
I'm sure most photo processing places would have the option to put developed picts online.

Huskies are definitely my favorite breed of legal housepets. I want to get one, but my dad says it's cruel to have one in Missouri because it gets so damn hot in the summer, and they're bred to have huge, thick fur coats. The dog would have to live outside, and my dad is worried it would overheat and die in July. I can't really say I blame him... it's too hot for me in July, too.

And what is the use of getting a companion dog if you are just gonna tie it up outside? Dogs are pack animals and need to be around others, not isolated outside.
SK, please do look into the personality of the different breeds and not pick one because it looks cool/pretty. :(

I'm aware of that Mina. And I'm not sure if I should get a dog that's not ready for the heat. I would have to keep it inside..since I plan to maybe be living in Phx. Anywhoo..it's just thoughts mostly.
Try a lab breed, rottweiler, or a hound of some sort (though those do have a tendancy to howl). Malamutes and huskies are not built for heat. Come to think of it neither are german shepards but Sampson always survived the summers here, after his fur was shaved down to a half inch high (yes we would shave him with a sheep trimmer.). You never realize how much hair one of those animals has till you have to do something like that.

Remember, dogs can get skin cancer just as easily as people. Do NOT shave down a dog to the skin. Their hair actually protects them from the sun. Not to mention that the hair that grows back may not be quite the same color/texture as their original coat. (I say don't shave dog breeds that don't normally need trimming, they have hair for a reason.) I've seen a dog (can't remember the breed) that was shaved every summer... the white grew back actually kinda cream colored.
Then again, any dog would have problems with very hot summers. It's just easier to keep a small(er) dog in the house all the time then the 80lb dog who takes up more space.
okies. ranting done.... for now. ;)

I find that once the dog gets close to you, they pick up on your moods. If I'm home sick and feeling crappy, my dog just snuggles with me. If it's a beautiful spring day and I'm all happy to get home, she is zooming around the house like a maniac. So yeah... they tend to adapt to you.
