This has got to be the pinnacle in my career as a character creator. The Pining Flame, I think, represents the height of my acheivement in the field of the tragic hero/heroine. She was made a while ago and suddenly the story just came to me (Minus a alter ego name, but that will come to me to) Enjoy.
The Pining Flame

Bio: _______ Was a happy child. Her father had a succesful career as head of the Terra Volta Reactor maitnence crew and her mother was a succesful doctor. Growing up _______ had everything a young girl could dream of. It was on her 18 birthday, near her graduation of highschool, that disaster struck. Her father was taking her on a tour of the new additions to the Reactor. Already showing signs of talent in the field of nuclear energy ______'s father hoped that she to would join the crew at the reactor and lead a lucrative life. They were in the control room of the reactor when disaster struck. Unbeknown to them ______'s birthday was also the day of the Ritki invasion. As the main force of alien invaders flooded the streets and waged all-out war against the heroes of the city, a small squad of Ritki attempted to take over the Terra Volta Reactor. Security guards fought off the aliens aas best they could, but they were to few in number and ill equiped to handle such a threat. The squad of aliens burst into the control room. In front of them they could see the pulsing reactor. So intent were they on their unknown goal they failed to notice the small group of scientists. ______"s father attempted to wrest a gun from one of the Ritki, but the alien beat him down. One shot, but missed, instead shattering the thick viewing screen that allowed a glimpse into the reactor core. The scientists gasped, knowing that they were now all exposed to deadly radiation. Another alien raised its gun and let loose a short burst of energy. ______ screamed in anguish as her father collapsed on the floor. Her anger overriding her self-prservation _______ charged the aliens as well. One lazily lifted its rifle and shot a burst of energy into her. The energy beam caught her in the stomach and lifted her back through the remains of the glass and into the reactor core. There the alien energy and human nuclear energy met in a fizzle of sparks. ______ slumped to the floor, appearing lifeless to the hopeless scientists above. Just as they thought they were doomed, a small group of heroes arrived and beat off the Ritki. They rushed all to safety, including ______. EMT's rushed to their aid treating the scientists for mild radiation burns. They examined ______ but could find no injury on her surface. They took her to Paragon Medical Center where they examined her closer. What they found was a veritible battle going on inside of her. Radiation was pulsing through her blood in varying degrees, all well above the lethal dosage. For some reason her cell tisuue was holding. The doctors theorized that the alien energy and the nuclear energy must be causing a mutation in her body, a super evolution to cope with the changes. All agreed, however, that she would not live any longer then 5 more years, at an optimistic guess. Her mother, overcome with grief at her husbands death and her daughters death sentence, commited suicide. _______ was still not concious when they held the funeral. She awoke about a week later. She could feel a pain inside of her, but otherwise her body felt energized and stronger then ever. The doctors told her of her fate. At best, they told her, maybe 24, but even that was a long shot. ________ felt her life was over. Leaving the hospital she had an epiphany. In the air above her a hero unleashed a fiery inferno on a Ritki drone. The fire sparked a memory. "The dying flame burns brightest just before it goes out." Her mother's soft voice echoed in her head. She watched the ruined form of the drone fall from the sky. Then she noticed the other drone prepping a shot at the hero's back. Without thinking her hand shot up and unleashed a ball of energy reminiscent of the Ritki guns. It struck the drone and sent it tumbling from the sky. I am that flame. I am that dying flame. I have one chance to go out in a blaze of glory. She thought to herself. I am a pining flame, but even that flame has the chance to consume something as it goes. I may not have much longer, but neither will the Ritki or anyone else who causes such suffering. I am the Pining Flame!
