2. I could really care less.
Seriously, PvP never interested me, mostly because of the people that are really into it. I might use the arena for duels with friends or teammates, but that's about it.
However, I am VERY interested in PvP for CoV. It's half the point of playing a villain in my opinion.

2. I could care less.
The whole thing has less to do with skill and everything to do with your build and your enhancements.
The problem is that COH just wasn't designed as a PVP type game, and if it's not built from the ground up, the PVP just isn't that interesting.

1. I love it. (Or will until Fotm build take it over)
3. It has it's ups and downs, but overall it's fun. Just gets irritating and quite annoying when people start getting, "I'm unstoppable. I'll take on all of you. None of you can hit me," and the old, "My build is twice as good as your's." That's when it looses its fun. I'd rather climb trees then listen to that.

2. for me. PvP pretty much sucks. I have no need for it, it's just something else to do to kill time. the few times I've done it, it was fun, but not because it was PvP but because I was with friends. We could have been doing missions and had just as much fun. That and we stomped our opponents. :P

PvP is fun....although I tend to get smacked around by tanks scrappers and some other blasters. Well thats my fault...I dont have a PvP build. And I do talk smack...but only to people I know. Anyone else might take me seriously. :P
I figure once I get to 50 ill respec a PvP build. (once I have a few Hammy-O's)

I too don't care much for the "I am invincible, I will eat you all" sorts, OR for the ones who throw a fit if you impose a level cap, OR for the ones who throw a fit if you add a special rule, OR for the "win at all costs" ones who silently crush you and everyone else over and over with their bug-exploiting, rules-twinking builds just to nock up points in the Arena rating; I can only hope that such PvP twinks don't fare nearly as well in PvE....
Those folks do kill the spirit of fun. There's competitive, and then there's aggressive.
On the other hand, the Brawl-for-All (or rather the first match of it, with the level cap) and the Urban Bushido Tournament proved that it can be a fun feature to play with, as long as the players are reasonable, good-spirited and/or mature about it. Leave the stupid screaming fits and chest-thumping to the football fans; We're made of better stuff than that, right?

lol, of course you can't be serious, little Tark. Blocking you(for all of 15 seconds) wasn't done because I took the game seriously, but it's cause I like messin' around with ya. :P
Furthermore, there's nothing wrong with roleplaying. However, when someone cries at a wedding for fictional videogame characters, then perhaps it's time that they take some time off from the videogame, and try resolving some RL issues instead.

Concerning the UB pickup fight, I got owned, because I cannot resist Fear ( Jaded's Cloak of Fear power) and I've only beaten a fire tank once. (That was Dog Fight during the 3 on 1 against me) I couldn't get anything done during the 3 0n 1 because I was kept taunted by Dog, and I can't beat fire tanks for the life of me.
Personally though, I enjoy PvP when I'm not taking it overly seriously. If I was determined to win, and then died alot, I don't think I'd ever have any fun. But going in to see if I can win, well I enjoy that.

I myself figure roleplaying doesn't hurt anyone anyway, so there's no point in knocking it. If you can't stand the exclusive cliques in Gemini Park, screw them; Go rustle up your own group. Sable was crying at the wedding, the players of the bride and the groom were saying their vows, I would have been the one in the back spiking the cake with Everclear...it's just everyone throwing their little pieces of action and dialogue into one big Mongolian barbecue of a story.

Whoa! That is NOT how I took that reply! Darknesse hasn't even POSTED in this thread. I don't know how you can say that that was "blatant".
Secondly, Sable did not call "serious PvPers" sad. Sable said that "people who lord it over other people ... to prove their superiority" were sad. That is NOT a description of every PvPer, and no one has said that it is.
I'm not going to speak for Sable, and I'm not going to say that there weren't ulterior motives in that post. But in my case, I KNOW my motives, and my reasons for responding to what Sable said.

That was my definition, sorry. My definition of "serious" PvPers are just that, those that are competitive and take it seriously. Naturally, those are the ones that will do what it takes to be on top, and brag about it when they get there.
Now, onto Sable. While he may not have said it directly in his post, it's pretty easy to tell he had *someone* in mind when he wrote it. You may have noticed a few posts by Darknesse, or even myself stating how badly others would get owned by facing him/me, and well, it's true. That's what Sable meant by "lording it over other people." At least, that's my take on it. Given Sable and Darknesse's previous little fights, I don't think it's too far fetched. :P

Even if Sable was aiming for Darknesse (which is doubtful), why is that your concern? At best, it's between Darknesse and Sable. In reality, Sable hasn't said anything to what you're accusing. You've blown this into a situation that really didn't have to happen.
Either way, I don't think this is the thread to argue about it. Why not take this to PM's?

You're missing the point. The point isn't whether Sable was jabbing at Darknesse or not. The point is, Sable was calling other people sad based on how they like to play the game, which happens to be overly competitive in-your-face kinda style. So, I responded by saying that crying at an in-game wedding was sad.

Back to PvP discussion - and preferably not the kind that's going on now. And no, this isn't because I have a stick rammed up my ass, or I'm biased against PvPers or RPers. I'm talking to all of you, and that includes Sable. Those of you who want to take PvP as seriously as you want, don't sit there and insult the RPers. Those who are serious RPers, don't sit there and insult the PvPers. Just co-exist, and if you can't, then just stay out of each other's way and stop poking snyde comments at each other. It's pathetic, and if you MUST do it, take it to AIM or PMs.

Well, I responded primarily because *I* was replying not just to Sable, but to Widowed as well, who Sable had replied to. I didn't quote the quote because I didn't think it was necessary. I can't speak for Sable, but the people I was talking about were more completely described as Widowed did, as taking undue pains to "cripple" the other player, by choosing options that gave them the advantage, ganking lower levels, or cheating or exploiting. Just gloating, while that's another thing such players do, isn't a problem by itself.
I hope that description doesn't fit anyone on this board. And in fact, Widowed said when she tried it with the folks here, she didn't have any of those problems.

See? It's like I say: All the other Scrapper Primary types do more damage or eat less Endurance than Martial Artists, but we're heavy on those two big status effects: Disorients and knockdowns. And if we can just keep you perpetually dazed, on your back or both, we can pull ahead and win it.
In that same first Brawl-for-All match, I even got to show Darknesse the fearsome power of Martial Arts (to the tune of about two Widowed-defeats-Darknesse points) when we were capped at the same level...didn't I, my beloved Moo Cow? :D

I find it quite interesting the assumptions that were made about what I said.
For the record, I was not directly saying anything about Darknesse. Or Krypto. Or "dedicated PvPers". Or anyone else in particular. It was an agreement with Widowed and a general statement. You have to admit that PvP breeds that kind of behavior.
I don't have any idea what this crying at a wedding thing is all about, nor what bearing it has on anything in this thread. Even if it were true, it is completely irrelevant.
I am not opposed to friendly duels in certain conditions, in fact before Issue 4 I agreed to play a part in one for a friend who wanted me to be an opponent in a match for RP purposes. Unfortunately the Arena is so bugged and imbalanced that such a thing turned out to be impossible, which was as much a disappointment (though not a surprising one) as it was a relief. She was really looking forward to it and I was kind of excited for her sake. Hopefully they get PvP fixed by CoV; I have ideas for it (if I'm back in game by that time, at least). I imagine it would play out much better in a the context of a mission than it does in the arena.

Well, I don't take it seriously except from a balance standpoint. IF they want to have PVP in the game, they need to do it right or the arena is quickly going to become boring, and the game will suffer.
Most of the time when you see me complain about anything in the game, it usually is a balance issue because those just REALLY irk me.

Shoot was it a total b!tch at first, the scrappers were wtfbbqpwning us until the Earth controller dropped Earthquake and some stone pets in a cozy little spot, I threw down freezing rain and Phantom Army and suddenly it went from a slaughter into a "base raid". We used our PBAoE powers to create a small safe zone for people to run back to get healed and buffed while the scrappers kept trying to find ways to penetrate our defenses and kill the Controllers and Defenders.
It was sheer madness for 20 minutes, in the end my team one, but damn if it wasn't close with all those deaths at the very beginning.

Storm Defenders are teh uber 1337. :P
Yeah I agree - */storm controllers own the arena also. I think Ill/storm is pretty much the king of the arena :)
Soviet gary has an Ice/Storm controller that's handed me my ass more times than i like to remember. :)
1. I love it! PvP adds something CoH was sorely missing.

How hypocritical. Krypto was fighting YOUR battle. And doesn't Tark have just as much right to express his opinion?
Well, I don't see how it was my battle. Despite what Krypto said, I am fairly sure that Sable did not target me directly with his comments.

/em heaves a frustrated sigh.
Here is a friendly reminder of a little hint of approaching doom from the previous page, people:
DO NOT let this kick off again. That's all I'm going to say.
Let's not get this thread locked. The weddings didn't exist, the rivalry between Sable and Darknesse doesn't exist, Tarkenchi doesn't exist (well, he does, but surprise! Any bad voodoo you felt towards him or Sable or Krypto or Darknesse or whoever just up and disappeared...). Hell, the past two or three pages don't exist.
Now everybody kiss and make up. Or if you fail to do that, then be ready to kiss Charon's ass if you want to keep this thread open. :grr:

Good job. But now as Widowed said, I think we better do the :notme: thing.

EXACTLY! Which means, if Krypto had let you fight what he felt was YOUR fight, (and since you didn't see it as an issue...) nothing would have been posted...thus this entire mess wouldn't have happened.

Hindsight is 20/20. The point is, it's over NOW.

Too bad Joe's not on Virtue. I think it would be interesting to see how he does in the Arena. (Three times damage with three heavily-slotted melee attacks, Decieve, and no pets. Interesting... :D)
He's too low level to tell anything, though. He's not even to the point where his damage is 55% yet, it's still on the down slope.
There is always the option of copying over to the Test server to try Arena stuff out with chars from other servers. :)

I will probably do that with Blue Diamond. I'm interested in how he will do, as well. And I'd rather have a match against someone I know. :D I should put some more levels on Joe first, though, get him to about 20.
I have yet to "introduce myself" to the Arena, though, and that will most likely be with Sandy. I'm just waiting until I've got some free time, maybe this weekend.

Holy christ almighty!
vyxzuw, I'm talking to you. Stop. Now. Or I'm fetching the banz0r stick.
Yes, that is a threat, and no, I don't expect you to argue your side of it. Just pipe down, and let this thread get back to it's topic, or the aforementioned 'doom' will arrive. I've warned you all THREE times now.

You know, I can't remember who came up with that name, but whoever it was originally said stick and it stuck.
Oh, and back on topic - do you guys wanna set up a time to fight me, then? I'm only level 28 (or will be by then I should imagine) and will likely get slapped from pillar to post, but I'm willing to give it a shot - I don't PvP much so I don't have much practice but hey ho. So who am I fighting and when?

You know, Sable, you should be pretty stoked about PVP.

Not if we impose a level cap, maybe. :)

Well, maybe Sonic Star and I could work you into our next Urban Bushido spar coming this weekend. We're a pretty decent and honorable bunch, you'll find. You're not Urban Bushido, but we won't hold that against you.... ;)
Forum admin status has its perks, eh? :D

Unless that spar is happening today, it's likely I've missed it for a weekend of random partying and druken-ness. ;)
But, yeah, with a level cap I'm willing to PvP with anyone from Pcity who wants to take me on (out), really.
