I wrote this as my last piece of COH fiction since I'm leaving the game. It explains where my main hero, main alts and my main villain all go to and why they're never seen in Paragon again.

The loud rattle and hum of the portal machinery jarred him from his thoughts. Any minute now, the Portal Corp technicians would get a bead on the particular dimensional frequency that Rancorous used in his escape from Primal Earth.

Rancorous…he’d been a thorn in Sky-Hawke’s side ever since he brought him back from Rancorous’ home dimension. A brutal version of Sky in that world, Rancorous had either killed or subjugated all the meta humans of his world. His iron fisted rule came to an end when Sky-Hawke of Earth Prime came there on a routine portal mission. After a titanic battle in the clouds, Sky emerged victorious. Taking Rancorous back to Earth Prime, Sky thought that he had nothing to worry about when the dimension hop seemingly drained Rancorous of his powers. Rather than drained, his powers were just suppressed and after a short amount of time they came back. Rancorous ran rampant through the Rogue Isles and Paragon City before Sky finally caught up with him. After a lengthy battle across several zones of Paragon, Rancorous flew away and headed for Portal Corp. There, he shoved a tech out of the way, punched in some coordinates and leapt in.

By the time Sky had caught up (after saving people from a collapsing building that Rancorous had caused to crumble apart), Rancorous was gone. Portal Corp technicians said that when he set the coordinates on the portal, he also smashed the control console to prevent Sky from following. The man in charge assured Sky that he’d have the portal up and running and get the coordinates within the hour.

An hour. Realizing that he had no idea what he’d be heading into when he followed his nemesis, Sky decided to set his affairs in order…in case he never returned.

The Hrafn Warband had been dwindling in members for a good while now and only a few remained. When he got to the base, all but two were out on patrol or on missions. Sky quickly wrote out a good bye letter to those not present then went to find the two who were at the base. Sadly, the two there also had their own good byes to say.

The first Sky found was Dusk Spherule. Allen Carter was a brilliant young man. He’d designed and built the suit he used to be the hero Dusk Spherule. His force fields and dark energy blasts had long been an asset to the team. Now, Allen was hanging up his suit and going to work at NASA. It was too good of an opportunity to pass up and Carter felt that there were enough heroes in the city now to pick up his slack. A hand shake, a few words and Allen was gone to catch the train.

Feeling a melancholy sense of finality, Sky walked down the hall to the room of Kyle McDonald aka Star Crossed.

Kyle had two suitcases packed but, unlike Allen, he was in his costume. A couple months ago, Star Crossed had led a strike force team against the Nictus leaders Requiem and Arakan. Having finally wiped the Nictus menace from the face of the planet, he and several other Peacebringers had decided to leave Earth for outer space. There they planned to hunt down the Nictus across the galaxy and put a final end to their tyranny. Kyle was also young, even younger than Allen. Sky felt a sense of pride from seeing the young man come so far so fast. They sat and talked for a few minutes, shook hands and flew out of the base and into the sky. A final salute and they went their separate ways.

He had about a half hour left before the portal was supposed to be repaired so, Sky decided to go back to where his heroic career had started…Atlas Park. Hovering over the plaza, Sky watched as all the new heroes went about, taking on missions or socializing. Despite the grim feeling he’d been having all day, he couldn’t help but smile. It reminded him of how he and the original Hrafn had all started that day all those years ago.

Sky began to head out towards the Skyway entrance when he spied Chopsaw, the newest member of the Hrafn Warband. Slowly, he lowered himself until he finally landed near where Chopsaw stood. Chopsaw saw Sky walking towards him and smiled. His smile quickly faded when Sky told him of what he was planning to do.

“We’ve lost so many Chopsaw. Once I’m gone, all the original Hrafn will be gone. It’s up to you and those remaining to carry on the tradition. Good luck and Godspeed my friend.”

With that, Sky launched himself into the air and arced towards the Skyway entrance. What Chopsaw didn’t realize was that everyone had stopped what they were doing and had watched the conversation between the two heroes. Sky-Hawke may be gone but, in his leaving, he left Chopsaw with more influence within the city than any other starting hero could ask for.

The flight from Atlas to Peregrine Island seemed to both take forever and be over in an instant. Sky had leaned against the wall and lost himself in his thoughts while the portal techs gave the gate a final once over.

When the gate hummed to life, it woke Sky from his thoughts.

“Well, looks like this is it.” Sky said as he stood before the coruscating energy patterns.

A deep inhale, a squaring of the shoulders and Joseph Hawke launched himself into the portal…never to be seen in Paragon City again.

Thanks guys. Yeah, it's just time to move on for me, the game's not fun for me like it used to be. :( I'll be heading to Auto Assault for now and then on to either Age of Conan or LOTOR Online when they come out. Plus, you know I'll be around in the DC Online game (lord I hope they don't screw it up).

cheers everyone and have fun!

It always makes me wonder when someone talks of leaving this site, what that person will be like 5 or 10 years later. I always wonder how much their visits to this site changed their lives. I mean, we are all physically removed from each other, all over the world. But, for a little bit of time, our lives all converged and someone across the ocean on the other side of the world meant something to you because you are joined by a common goal. Its like each of our lives is a strand of hair, and for a short distance, all the strands are weaved together before they are split apart again. CoHGuru is the weaver.

Enjoy your life Skyhawke :)

The beauty of MMOs was perfectly stated there... I still wonder about my clan in Freelancer... and my server for that matter...
