View Full Version : The mysterious connection issue challenge

Well, for some odd reason, my computer takes HOURS occasionally to connect to CoH. Once it connects, it's lightning fast... just the patcher, for some reason. DOwnloads are bizzarely long as well. Other games, internet, downloads... all very fast. Just CoH updater.
Now, for the tough part. Whenever they patch the game, I get some variation of the "connecting... updating patcher.... connecting" or "Download File Manifest" or "Message from Patchserver 10"....so no connecting.
To remedy this issue, I've run a kajillion or so anti-spyware programs, am using no firewalls of any kind (that I can control), and have uninstalled the game. Now that it's RE-installed, it does'nt want to connect to update the patcher (Message from Patchserver 10). FLushing the DNS and disconnecting modems and whatnot have'nt yeilded anything.
Folks on the main forum tech support section, as well as the tech support guys themselves, have yet to yeild any result. The last 5 times this happened, it magically remedied itself after a few days, but I can't even get to the game now (stuck at patcher). So, I put forth this challenge. My account needs renewing around the 14th. If you guys could help me fix this issue, I'd appreciate it. If not, then I'll have to cancel my account.
Quick reference... typical dell Inspiron 8600, with a 512 memory upgrade. Running Verizon AVenue (Which, yes, isn't ideal, but it has yet to give me issues with anything else).

In a bizzare twist of fate, my issue (well, it isn't MY issue, considering how many folks had it, but the issue I gad) was resolved by none other than NCSoft's tech support. I got a message when I got up this morning saying the effect of "We have made some troubleshooting changes.... try it now." I checked the patcher (which I left running last night), and lo and behold, it was updated an waiting to let me play. And, even better, it no longer takes hours to connect now.... just about ten seconds. The toher two folks I was talking to who had the same issue say there's works now, so I'm proud to say, crisis averted. Far as I know, at least.

I did get a bit of a wait on connecting last night, after I got map disco'ed, but things are back to fairly fast this morning. Once again, Talos tram is the death zone, on Justice, at least. Still, tech support said my ticket is still open, so we'll see.
