View Full Version : Is this normal?

So, tonight I had a weird technical problem where several enemies disappeared on me. (read about it here (http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=2811544&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1#2811544)). I am explaining what's happening to my teammates, when one of them suggests that I might have a virus. Now, I got a firewall going, and I will do a virus scan every now and then, but I have yet to actually find a virus, seeing as I don't open random e-mail attachments from
[email protected] That's not really the point, because I don't think a virus could have caused the problem here. Random teammate (and this is a weird pickup team) then goes on to explain that his computer once slowed down, and he ran a virus scan and found 37 viruses! Now, I'm no computer security expert, but does that sound a little high to anybody? Because I'm starting to worry that maybe I just haven't been running the right anti-virus software or something. I mean, wasn't this a recent Strongbad cartoon?
I'm not an expert, but if you have antivirus should have zero viruses when you scan witht the same antivirus (I think  ). I had something similar where it picked up over 10 viruses because i had my external hd hooked up and it counted keygens as viruses. Perhaps, you have something similar. My guess would be that it read files as being infected rather than your system. ie some attachment that you never opened was scanned. Keep in mind that I'm dumb and have little to idea what I'm ever talking about :chuckle:.

Not me. I've never had a virus. Other random dude.

Had the same problem last nite in a mission I was on with Darknesse/Morc/Mahaf. Mahaf said it was a bug with the enemies disappearing or not dying right away after we had defeated them. I was also getting disconnected everytime I zone or other wise caused me to lag considerably. Deleted my checksum file and got disconnected again after my SG meeting... :(

I've had this problem too, and other graphical glitches since the patch. Once my cursor disappeared. Mission maps are not being cleared correctly. Enemies still show up even though they are dead. Some people have no pictures for their contacts. However, I think these problems are generally inconsistent for each player. Like for instance yesterday I was on a map and a door was showing closed even though to others it was showing open.
Something is buggy with the patch, so you are not alone. The virus suggestion is ridiculous. I'm sure there is something at the official forums about it but they are down...

Virtue crashed pretty hard last night too around 10:30 or so, so that might have something to do with it.

I saw that defeated-mob-not-falling-down thing running thru outbreak. His hp and end were zero but he was still standing there. *shrug*

I think there are some issues with this issue and some versions of drivers for nvidia cards and ati cards.
Maybe trying a different version?
But from your description, it is coh related and not virus related. To be sure tho, go to housecall.antivirus.com in internet explorer and run their free online scan and after it runs go to www.pandasoftware.com/activescan ans run their scan.
just to be sure.

I updated my drivers last night and noticed a bit less lag. Couldn't hurt to check for that.

I'm guessing that your friend either downloaded a virus scanner for the scan, or had kept it turned off or disabled. (A really, really, bad idea) If you have a good virus scanner that you run scans with frequently, you shouldn't suddenly find 36 new ones.
As for the bug, I remember once seeing a defeated foe reappear and just stand there. I couldn't target him, though. It reminded me of the demo player, which pretty much always leaves the "ghosts" standing around after you kill them.
[edit] You know, now that I think about it, I also remember encountering an "invisible" enemy that was hitting me, but I couldn't fight back. I left the mission and came back in, since he was the first thing I encountered, and it was fine from then on. This was MONTHS ago, though, long before I4, so I'm pretty sure that's not a new bug. I /bugged it, but it seemed like a random glitch.

I wonder if the groupmate was confusing adware with viruses.

I had a lot of problems last night too. At one point I beat a foe and he just stood there. It reminded me of the part in Mortal Kombat where Johnny Cage says to the stunt guy "This is the part where you fall down." :chuckle:
Meh, I'm sure it's just bugs with the new update. It'll all work out eventually.

Yep, I'm pretty sure there all animation glitches. I also believe these animation issues are somehow related to me getting extreme lag to where it automatically disconnects me...
