For the last half a year, pretty much anytime CoH updates, I get stuck unale to connect for like 5 days. I'll get the "connecting.... checking updater... connecting" loop, the "downloading file manifest" loop.... any of the popular variations. I run XP, 512, Verizon Avenue, and can play any other game or surf the net, or download, all flawlessly. ANd for the last 4 months, it takes CoH hours to connect, and absurd amounts of time to download patches. Every time it happens, I have to spend two days convincing tech support it's not my machine, and another three watching them scratch thier head till the problem magically fixes itself.
This time around, I'm trying the uninstall/reinstall option (Already flushed the dns, etc...), and now it won't connect to the patch updater. I get an "unkown message from Patcherver 10. And if I DO manage to connect, it will no doubt take me days or weeks to download the patch at the bizzare rate I'm given. (It took me like three days to get the initial issue 4 patch, I swear.)
So at this point, I'm going to go take solace in the arms of Guild Wars, and if tech support actually bothers to figure out the problem that's afflicting me and thousands of others this time, THEN I'll be back on.Otherwise, after a week or two, I'm canceling my account. I love the game, but I'm level 50, did pretty much all the content, and now can't log on. I'd normally just hang around and enjoy retirement, but only if I can enter the game.
SOrry to unload, but the lack of helpfulness from anyone EMPLOYED by NCSoft is really irking me.

Are you using any type of router or firewall?

Owie. I know I'd blow a major fuse having to put up with that crap. :grr:
I hope you get it all resolved. Soon.

Nope, no firewall of any kind. A clear, open path of information, in all respects. :chuckle:
But yeah... it's a shame, because I LOVE the game, and the concept, but a badge and nifty costume options that I can't access are'nt worth fifteen bucks a month. Still, the ball's in their court at this point. Figure it out, or lose one customer. It's not a huge loss on their part, but it's not exactly a badge of honor.

Frankly, I don't know whether to take pity your plight or laugh and mark this as a PEBKM.

Seriously, tech support can't do everything. And I don't think (from the information you gave) you've done alot, either.

Actually, I have a challenge for you. I'm assuming you've been only talking to tech support about your problem (correct me on this if it's wrong). You know we have people here who can help you. If the board can't help you with your problem within two weeks, THEN you can cancel your account.

Oh, and Guild Wars:

Oh no... tech support is ONE avenue I've taken. I've scoured the main forums tech issues are for help... gotten a ton of help, none of it productive. (not their fault). I've spent WEEKS total trying to get this thing to work, and every test folks have pointed my way has shown me nothing wrong thus far. When the issue popped up before, I posted it in the tech area of the previous boards, to no avail. I asked several friends of mine... they're just as mystified. And that's really all I know how to do. If the people on the boards (this and the main) could'nt help, the guys who are paid to help could'nt figure it out, and the folsk I know in real life could'nt figure it out, I'm kinda tapped out, catch my drift?
Seriosuly, though, I'm all for any new suggestions that might come from the new forum. Still, account renewal time will be the deciding time period. Not paying 15 bucks for a non-playable game. I'll post my plight in the tech forum.

I've had the same problem twice. I haven't been able to connect and then when I eventually can I get a 4.7kbps (or something relatively absurd like that) on my 3Mbs connection. Needless to say, I don't piss about trying to download at that speed when I know I shouldn't have to, I just re-start the updater over and over again until it magically fixes itself, which is usually only a few times. I obviously don't have it as bad as you, it's only happened to me twice.

I've never e-mailed support, probably should though to register the problem. Doesn't sound like they're much use from what you're saying.
