Waste of money. And I have to admit while it's a very nice gestus, I'm seriously doubting he's getting anything out of it, except a bit of infamy.

I thought it was a cool idea myself. I'm sure he got a few date offers or at least some phone numbers. Look at the reaction of the women here. It was totally worth it, IMO.
But then, I tend to not be like most men anyway.

Actually, if you check out the last line of the article, I think that was his angle. I'm guessing he bought those roses from some charity that was selling them. So he impressed a lot of girls AND helped the homeless. :D
[edit] Re-reading the line the "charity" was the Business Professionals of America, so it looks like instead of helping the homeless, he was helping some up-and-coming young Republicans instead. :D Probably he's a member of the group.

The article said he sent 500 roses, but it wasn't enough. I want to see how many girls stomp his ass for not getting them one.
"What's the matter, loser? Wasn't I good enough to get a rose? You sent 500 other tramps one!"

That's the problem with grand gestures. People always fall through the cracks.
Having said that; the kid is the ****. Well played. :chuckle:

Someone will have to ask this guy whether it was worth making 500 girls kinda like him versus 100 girls who now hate his guts. And know his name.
The question isn't whether this guy got some action out of this "sweet gesture", it's whether or not he lived through the day.

Doesn't work because I play that angle on the second date. Doing it again, changing the environment maybe, only goes so far. The "newness" of it is pretty much gone.
I did something kinda similar when I was 16 (bought an emerald/sapphire "friendship ring" for my girlfriend at the time that cost me 3 months of Electronics Boutique paychecks) but thankfully, she cheated on me before I gave it to her so I returned it to the store. :P
As trite as it sounds, if you really want to impress the hell out of a woman, a trip to Paris STILL works extremely well. And no, it's not even half as expensive as people think. We booked 11 couples to Paris for last weekend.
But that's for grown folk. $900 for this kinda gesture HAS to have an angle. Unless you think it's typical for a 17 year old kid to have $900 in disposable income. Hell, there are grown folks who don't have that much to just toss to the wind! :)
Well I did spend a whole $11 this Valentines. Brought two females I have an interest in a rose, and one of my other female friends just got over a break up and I felt bad, so I got her a card. And then I brought a bag of candy to pass out to the floor.
I agree with the kid. Everyone needs to feel a little bit special on Valentine's Day, especially females. They take it to heart. But I wouldn't shell out $900. I would've went straight to Wal-Mart and got the little box cards and a couple bags of 100+ pieces of mixed candy. That couldn't be no more then $150.

Then again, maybe his parents are just loaded and this is just like, a day's allowance for him. (Looking up information on the school, it seems to be kind of a rich school for something in the public school system, so this isn't totally implausible.)

Yeah, but you have plenty of time to break up with them in the meantime. (And yes, I knew about White Day. If I've learned anything from reading manga, it's the traditions of Valentine's/White day(s).)

I saw news about this guy in the subway this morning, in Montreal.
Definitely a well-spent $900.
I'll ask my friends today if they heard of him in Poland. :p
As for the White Day, OMG.

It's the price we pay for being able to "step out" and not be ostracized by society. Remember, there are still many countries in the world where a woman who cheats on her husband would be considered almost the lowest form of life (just a step or two above child molester) whereas if a man does it, "he's just being a guy!". Who has more value in an Arab country, a virgin girl or one with "experience"? Does the same valuation exist for Arab men?
Everything has a cost (whether monetary or otherwise). It's also why in many (Western) countries, an ugly man with money > a broke ass hunk.
