Well, I just had what i think is a great idea for how they can help avoid some confusion regrding certain power effects, and a possible wording change for the powers to help clear it up in the future.

mainly, i'm talking about powers that do damage to endurance,

now i understand that the words endurance drain are very useful, but it's not really draining the endurance, it's causeing damage to it.

Some do make sense to use the term drain, like powers that take endurance from a target and turn it into something else, like health, endurance, or what have you.

But some powers (namely electricity blast/electricity control) just take away the endurance, and don't turn it into anything else. so why not change the wording on these particualr powers, so instead of saying it "drains endurance" say it "does damage to endurance"

here's even a little poll :0

please vote, and let me know why you picked that.

Seriously, I don't even know which way to go. I was going to say this in reply to your post in the other thread, but it didn't even occur to me that people might think Endurance COST. I guess I'm too caught up in the game mentality. I don't even notice the wording.

It does make more sense when you put it that way, though. Endurance is a bar, like Health, and so you could think of it as damage. And an Electric Blaster does more Health damage and less Endurance damage, while a Defender does more Endurance damage and less Health, for the Endurance cost. For other Defenders, you could say they do more debuff and less Health. (Which may or may not be true since, except for Electric and Energy, the attacks are directly comparable)

Since when did the word "drain" mean gaining something back?
It's a power that DRAINS the target of endurance, hence, endurance drain.

As listed in the dictionary, the term that is most relevant in this case "b : to cause the gradual disappearance of"

There would be absolutely no reason to change it to Endurance Damage.

I voted drain since that seems to be the simplest way to put it. It's like the difference between HP damage and mana sieve in fantasy based MMOs. Calling it mana damage is kind of a misnomer IMO.

...but it didn't even occur to me that people might think Endurance COST.

This is where my confusion came from. In my case, however, I think that had more to do with it being a moment of stupidity than anything else. Also, I only have one defender (lelve 3) and one controller (level 6), so END draining attacks are still new to me as a player.

Given all this, though, I think drain is a better term to use than damage, it's a more accurate description of the effect.

How about:

"It's nerfed. Deal with it." :)

Drain.

To remove endurance is a 'Endurance Drain' and to remove that endurance and use it elsewhere is 'Endurance Transfer.' That sort of distinction should make it easier.

I vote "Endurance Loss".

Oh, wait. There's no such option. Nevermind. :shinner:
