Did he make his mask out of old Pepsi cans? Or did he steal it from some human-sized Warhammer statue? It looks SO fake.

Oh man, this movie's gonna suck so bad. And yet, I still have to see it.
Damn you and your Clobberin' Time, Ben Grimm! Why do you make me love you?

His eyes look quite tormented. That much is good.

Actually that lookes better than I expected. I was afraid it would be on par with the Skeletor mask in "Masters of the Universe" when that was made... THAT was a bad mask. :p

I'm sure that Doc Doom's mask will reflect the light as required for the shots it's in while still showing detail; and that people will hardly notice any imperfections, given the mess that the rest of the movie will be.

Seriously, it looks like the mask from the comic book. The mask from the comic book looks fake. Which really is the problem, comic book art always looks sort of fakey when you try to make it in live action.
I think what they should have done is not make it look so much like the comic. But I'd have to see it in context.

I don't see what's so bad about it. Am I the only one who thinks the movie might be cool? Everyone I hear saying anything about it says bad stuff, but I think it looks like it could be pretty good. I doubt it'll be Spiderman or X-Men level, but I'm going to at least give it a chance before panning it.

It's the skeptic's way of avoiding disappointment. If I'm excited about a movie, and I go and see it, and it's just "okay", then I'm disappointed. If I convince myself there's a 99.9% chance the movie's gonna suck, and I show up and it's just "okay"... well, then that's better than I expected...
Because, you see, when you're disappointed in a movie, you start thinking about the other things you could have done with that time and money. Like the D&D movie. I had such high hopes... and then I was let down. Or Episode 1. Or Episode 2. Now, I always talk myself out of seeing things in the theater, unless I'm taking a girl on a date, because I don't want to be disappointed. I mean, you can't hardly get out of a movie theater without spending $20, unless you go to a matinee or something. And I can drink all night at my favorite bar for that much, as long as I have friends there to split pitchers with me.

What does this mean? It's a mask, how "real" can it look? I think it looks cool.

It could look like metal, instead of plastic. That would look more "real".

I just don't get it. Everyone that says the mask looks fake, is that compared to other whole head, iron masks you've seen? I mean, really, fake in comparison to what?

I agree with you.
Give it a chance to breathe, people. It looks fine. I doubt they wanted to spend the entire budget on making the mask perfect while everything else lacked in aesthetics.

If the mask looks fake, then the only reason for that IMO is that it's more scuplted than its counterpart in the comic, which looks more rigid and angular. I don't think the mask looks bad, necessarily. Just different.
Still looking forward to F4. :)

What I don't like about the mask is that it doesn't look like actual metal and that you see it is one piece. All the rivets and weld seams look completely unnecessary and fake.

the guy playing dr. doom (julian_mcmahon) has decent acting skills. check out Nip/Tuck for the evidence, he plays a narcasisstic playboy/plastic surgeon to the hilt.

the wizard comics guide has other pictures of his costume and you could probably find them posted on the net somewhere if you do an image search. imo, the costume looks awesome. i like the hooded cloak/coat subtitute for the cape, and the double belted waistband substituted for the pilgrim's pride buckle from the comic.
the mask i'm hesitant about. i love the fact that in the movie, the mask is presented to Victor Von Doom as a gift, a ancient warlord relic from his homeland, Latvaria. I'm not sure if he is the King of Latvaria but he's some kind of wealthy industrialist with money/influence, since he's the one funding Reed's outter space expedition. The mask looks almost identicle to the awesome style of mask that he wears in the comic. it's the texture that i am disappointed in. the mask looks like it's made of plastic, sprayed with metallic paint.

i am a little disappointed with the change in dr. doom's origin but i understand why they did it. in case you didn't know by now, dr. doom is also effected by the comic rays that change the Fantastic Four. His special power is that his skin is slowly becoming metallic and he can conduct (i'm not sure if he can generate) electricity.
Dr. Doom
Real Name: Victor Von Doom
Group Affiliation: None
Current Occupation: Ruler of Latveria (and would-be world conqueror)
Former Occupation: Scientist
Height: 6' 2"
Weight: 225 lbs. (414 lbs with Armor)
Known Allies:
Doom considers no-one his equal—nor his ally. Over the years, he has manipulated many pawns in his various schemes to conquer the world, including Namor (the Sub-Mariner) and the Silver Surfer, but Doom has ultimately betrayed each and every one of them.
Known Enemies:
The Fantastic Four: The cosmic-powered quartet who use their special abilities to keep the Earth safe from danger. The FF's leader, Reed Richards, has been Doom's greatest enemy since they were both in college together!
Mephisto: Lord of the mystic nether realm, who held Doom's mother's soul captive!
The Silver Surfer: Sky-rider of the spaceways, possessing both the unstoppable Power Cosmic and a tranquil, noble soul!
Red Skull: Evil fascist menace who attempted to take over control of Doom's nation of Latveria!
Abilities:
Doctor Doom is perhaps the greatest genius on Earth! He is capable of creating mind-staggering, earth-shattering scientific devices with almost no effort! In addition to his grasp of super-science, Doom is also skilled in the use of sorcery! Doom's armor contains a bevy of built-in weapons, including concussion blasters in the gauntlets. His armor also contains a powerful force field (which protects him from harm) and a jet pack (which allows him to fly at subsonic speeds). Doom equips his armor with more specialized weaponry as he needs it.
History:
Born a gypsy, whose mother was a practicing witch, Victor Von Doom spent his early years on the run from the totalitarian authorities that then governed Latveria. His terrific intellect brought him to the attention of a State University recruiter, who offered Doom a scholarship to their school. While there, Doom constructed a device with which to contract his mother's spirt in the nether world. Despite the warnings of a young classmate, Reed Richards, Doom prematurely activated the device, which exploded, horribly scarring this face! Expelled for his actions, Doom wandered the globe, eventually being taken in by a mysterious tribe of monks near the Himalayas. They taught hi the secrets of sorcery and helped him forge his powerful suit of battle armor! This hideously-scarred face now hidden behind a cold, iron mask, Doctor Doom returned to his native Latveria, overthrowing the existing government and taking the throne of the nation for himself! Now, he has but two goals: to bring the entire world under his rule and to destroy Reed Richards, whom he blames for the accident that ruined his face!

John Byrne: Well, yes... and no. By the way, I want to clear up a rumor about Dr. Doom's face. His face is a mess. There was a rumor that he was a perfectly handsome man under the mask, except for one scar which, because of his tremendous ego, made him feel hideously disfigured. Nonsense. He is hideously disfigured. Remember, when the Tibetan monks who raised him first placed the mask upon his face, the metal was still hot! If his face wasn't misshapen before, that along would do it.

Secondly, why is everyone bitching about a movie they haven't seen? I remember the same kind of fanboy reaction about LOTR and now those same losers line up to kiss the ground that Stephen Jackson walks on.

As far as I can remember, people were going crazy-go-nuts over screens from LotR, and very few were protesting Jackson, and the few that bitched and moaned still bitch and moan about the changes made.
Also, Jessica Alba isn't really attractive.
