I found out Kinetix is the name of a girl fire super-heroine :(
Stalking Shadow

I found out that Stalking Shadow is the title of a "Goosebumps" book. Nobody cares about those things, so I'm unique de facto.
All petty problems - I found out got means ass in Turkish.

For Grins I looked up my heroes...
Major Obvious = Unique.
Nurse Red Cross seems to be some kind of asian or german porn star or something...
Dr. Flamestrike = Unique.
Miss Judgement is a greyhound or a horse...some kind of racing...
Brimstonia seems to be some sort of cottage in New York.
Atse'Hashke is synonomous with Satan.
Krystal Power is some forum user for a Starfox fansite.
The Atomic Mistress (former name on Liberty) is unique, so now I want her name back dammit! lol.
Muscular Beaver is a cartoon character.

Alumette
05-03-2005, 02:51 AM
Heh. That's funny. :) Kinda cool, actually, Thundermace!
Alumette is a stylized version of the French word "allumette" which means "matchstick." However in French slang it means something along the lines of flirt, coquette, vixen, etc. Basically any flirty girl.
However when I Google "Alumette" as I have it spelled for my heroine, I get lots of links to the PCity forums (imagine that), and also a brand/style of lingerie.
Hmmm.

Dragonfly certainly isn't unique. Marvel alone has had either 3 or 4 different characters go by that name in years' past (making appearences in Spider-Man and X-Men comics). There was also a short-lived indy comic called Dragonfly about a girl who could fly and had psychic powers (her costume was great too).
As far as I know, Cactus Man is unique. However, while Googling one day I discovered references to a character named "Saguarrior" some guys came up with who knows how long ago. I imagine the concept is pretty much the same.

I thought I was the only Thundermace! kinda a suprise. O_o
We have Issue #3 of Thundermace. Ed bought it from Diversions (a comic book / game shop in Biloxi, Mississippi) while he was stationed down in Keesler Air Force Base for tech school.
He didn't buy it for Thundermace, though. This was back in 1993, when the Sega Genesis was in its prime. And one of his favorite Genesis games was Chakan: The Forever Man. Chakan got his start in the Thundermace comics before being featured in a video game, which scored him a lot more fame.
(Ed says the game is hard as hell, but the ending features the first "sucker punch" ending he ever saw--the credits scroll and you think the game's finished, but it's not--and it's well worth the effort. )
I'll have to post a pic of Thundermace #3 once we dig through the file cabinet and find it. Does that issue have a Chakan episode in the back, too?
The Icy One

I have that Chakan game!
Poison
05-03-2005, 05:59 AM
On the other hand Got means God in german, Right? That would be Gott.
You'd have to really look hard for a superhero called Poison. There actually was a Marvel villain from Puerto Rico called Poison, but that was in one Daredevil issue, I think, about 20 years ago.
The other Poison you'll find is the chick from Final Fight games.

Meh you should see all the crap that comes up when You google Vendel....and I just made that name up. Well some time between Diable 1 and 2 I switched from Fendel to Vendel...and it has been my name since (dont remember why I switrched....prob was taken)
Chain Lightning
05-03-2005, 09:17 AM
I think I'm unique as far as hero names go. When I do searches on Chain Lightning I get either the weather phenomenon (which is what I based my name on to begin with) or some magic spell from an old RPG game.
I know DC did a Flash story entitled Chain Lightning, I have them, but I haven't seen or come across any other heroes named the same.
TroubleWolf
05-03-2005, 02:01 PM
I'm not even going to bother googling "Wolf". :P
The original character called himself TeenWolf, and was based loosely off of the character in the Michael J. Fox movie with the same name. When I got too old to be considered a teen anymore, I changed his name to Trouble, as in "Here comes Trouble..." but that always seemed cheesy to me. Then the time came to reserve names, and I was unemployed at the time, so I could sit at home and wait for the exact moment to get in and reserve a name, so I grabbed Wolf. It's such a common word, and I'm sure there were lots of people who would have wanted it, so it seemed kind of cool to be the one to get it.
There's something about single, common word names (Poison, Fate, etc.) that's almost... prestigious, in a weird way.

Yikes, Goldstar's a DC comics character, although as far from my incarnation as possible.
The other night a bunch of people went through the various comic incarnations of Red-wing (Falcon's bird, Robin's bike). No one mentioned Detroit.

Jade_Dragon
05-03-2005, 05:34 PM
I know that Blue Diamond is an obscure DC hero, from the Golden Age I think. His powers are probably similar, but his origin and character are COMPLETELY different. Apparently, Jade Dragon was also the name of a character from Alpha Flight.
I did a Google search for Bloodwolf, and found nothing but a bunch of Internet handles. And I would HOPE Sandy isn't a superhero name...
ThunderMace
05-03-2005, 05:36 PM
Blue Diamond is an old Marvel Character that was in the Liberty League
Sandy was the name of Pulp-era Sandman's sidekick

Wasn't her palette-swapped friend named Roxy too?
I still remember all the controversy over Poison and Roxy way back when, especially when Final Fight made the jump to the Super Nintendo (I think it was that console). All the Puritans were in an uproar over Poison and Roxy's breasts being mostly exposed when you knocked them back, so there was the nudity issue and the violence against women issue all on one ticket. Plus some people started saying that the girls were actually hermaphrodites or transexuals--I have no idea why. So in light of the bare boobs thing and/or the tranny thing, Nintendo had them converted to men in the home version. Of course, the men who used to be Poison and Roxy were still pretty feminine....

Well, I suppose if "Bucky" can be a superhero name, so can "Sandy". :D
And you're right, Blue Diamond was a Marvel hero, not DC. I though he was pre-Marvel, but he was just created back when they were Timely Comics. Oh well, you learn something new every day. :D
Masked Revenger
05-03-2005, 06:05 PM
The only reference to Masked Revenger I ever found was to an old episode of You Can't Do That on Television, where one of the kids becomes the Masked Revenger super hero. Strangly, his costume is very simmilar to mine, even the same colors. Scary.

I liked that show. :)
Tsarmina is a char in a Redwall book so there are plenty of references to that.
Dynamo-Man
05-03-2005, 07:59 PM
Apparently Dynamo Man is a character from one of the Mega Man games. Not sure which one, as the google results are pretty lengthy and non-specific.
But the way I made him and play him, he's a lot like Majestryx, aka Mr. Majestic, or just Majestic. Who is a knock off of ole' Supes. So, I got 3 degrees of separation from Big Blue. In a strange, "WTF???" sort of way....
...what were we talking about? :eyebrow:

I only remember that if you did the piledriver on the girls with Haggar, it looked as if they were giving him a... uh, fellatio.

Solario is apparently the last name of an artist.
PS. Sandy, the Golden Boy, is the current Sandman in JSA.
inkblaster
05-03-2005, 11:01 PM
Inkblaster is unique, all the references I find to it are me.
White Rabbit, I refer to the Lewis Carroll rabbit more than the Monty Python one, but yeah, tons of references. Tons and tons of references, Gobs and Gobs and tons of references.
Plasma Wisp
05-03-2005, 11:17 PM
Cyborg Robbie is unique
DipSet is the name of a rap group
Plasma Wisp is actually a Kirby Superstar character that I based Wisp off of. Goggle image search gets my old FF work.
Oh, and I found this. http://www.thebeholder.org/backissues/eleven/eop.htm Eat your heart out Horndog.
Tarkenchi

Tarkenchi is 100% unique:D
Well lets see here:
Empyreal is some sort of swedish rockband, never heard of them. Also a guild in EQ on Sol Seq Ro server (played EQ but not that server). A technology company. And lastly a publishing company of some sort.
Nexus I know is a comics character.
Smacks (smax) is a comics character and I kinda based mine on him.
Phoenix Stormhawk is unique. :)
Kid Atomic. the name is unique however I have had to put a "." on the end of it since some one stole the name from me. In game I did him up as a homage to Capt. Atom. Also Kid Atomic is the name I draw under so if you see any one sporting Kid Atomic without the "." inform them I would like to speak with them. Who ever this is took the name on all the servers.

Randomus

There's some punk named Randomus on TDZK forums, whatever the heck TDZK was, but he wasn't around last time I googled the name, so I'll just assume he's ripping me off.
Also a guy in WoW, probably also ripping me off.
Not that 'Randomus' is terribly unique. You just stick 'us' on the end of 'Random'. Also, a lot of websites use the term 'Randomus' in conjunction with other words they try to make sound latin in an attempt to be witty or pseudointellectual.
I got the nickname years ago now, so I feel pretty confident that I'm the first-- or at least the coolest-- Randomus around.
The Icy One

Pulse Fire is probably around somewhere in comic world.. maybe.
The Ripper/Jack the Ripper isn't unique at all.. it just fit my character.. powerful, tears through things. That and he had a cool spear/grappling hook RP wise that he really did use to rip things apart. Of course now CoH wise he is The Rooftop Brawler.. king of the rooves, kind of like he was in RP anyway.. >>

Everything's a sexual reference these days. If the entire city of Detroit can deal with it, so can I. Goldstar I'm genuinely worried about though, since it's apparently a reasonably popular character with DC. People have made Freedom Force skins for her.
Sable Phoenix
05-04-2005, 07:35 AM
Sable Phoenix is, of course, unique. I've Googled it before and other than things relating to me I've found only one other reference, a clan for Starsiege (and since I have my name in that game's manual and used Sable Phoenix even back then, they stole it from me).
Tiger Gold is either a safari company, (http://www.africaonline.co.zw/tigergold/) or Macintosh's new operating system. (http://macslash.org/article.pl?sid=05/04/01/0135256&mode=thread)
